Am I the only one that hates aoe grinds in dungeons and raid?

Seeing ideas about speedrunning dungeons and even raids using cleave and aoe. Am I the only one that hates the idea of playing WoW like this? I feel like ever since the end of TBC this has been an expectation that make the game very boring for me personally. I realize many like this and that is fine for them. But I hate it and this will be what makes me not want to play Classic more than anything else.
I remember really liking Cata when others didn’t because I felt like there were many instances that forced people to think about how to pull mobs and how to play rather than just try to push over mobs like wrath babies knocking over blocks.

Yeah, if you have hatred for people that play a different way than you, just take a deep breath and don’t play Classic.

And you need to put on some clothes.

Just join dungeons/raids that don’t use speedrunning tactics. You and your group can take however long you want. What other people do shouldn’t affect you.

why would how others choose to play change whether or not you want to play…stop being a sheep and do your own thing.

Never saw people doing this on the vanilla pserver I played on.

If you’re running with a druid or paladin tank, expect to be AoEing. Personally, I find spamming frostbolt and spamming Blizzard equally unengaging. And that’s essentially classic dungeons.

Never said I hated people for playing different. Pretty sure I actually said I am fine with them playing how they wish.

It’s just one of many fun and valid ways to play. Shrug.

I remember pulls having priorities, possibly some cc, and sometimes a needed strat to have a good clean encounter. No issues with others doing their aoe thing or me even doing it sometimes as a change. But when dps pull because it is just a aoe fest and other fun choices are made due to it the game feels more like a clicking phone game and less like a strategy game. Just not my personal cup of tea. And from what I am reading it may be just me.

In dungeons, I am a fan of clean runs. I dont want deaths, or wasted time. If AoE gets it done? Ok.

The reality though, is its going to lead to wipes. Ill take CC comps all the time.

I mean you have all of that in m+, especially this season with beguiling.

I’m gonna hazard a guess and day you don’t like m+ because of the timer though .

I don’t know. I love the idea of doing m+. I am not sure about the timer; I don’t think it would be an issue. I never got into it but wanted to. Maybe I should try. If Classic does not work out I will see if my guild is interested. Thanks.

Not with good tanks. I remember a ton of dungeons I did back then. I was always excited with druid or especially paladin tanks because they typically just AoE tanked. No pull in the game requires CC or a specific kill order. You do that to make it easier on the tank and healer. With two that know what they’re doing though, most situations you can just AoE.

Yep, very true, just a preference.

It is not just you.

I used to enjoy tanking in BC - I learned how to plan out my pulls and mark stuff and I ran with people who knew how to use their CC and other abilities and we worked as a team and could get through stuff pretty quickly. I still can remember just about every trash pull in Karazhan and how to best manage it and where to watch for patrols and all that.

I still enjoy tanking raids but I don’t enjoy tanking dungeons in current WoW. I pretty much just don’t do them though I have gone as dps a few times. I don’t like timers and chain pulling. It just takes all the ‘thinking’ out of the dungeons and that makes them just not fun for me.

Yeh I’m not really a fan, just dosnt feel as fun.
I prefer a using a little CC, some careful pulls and minimal downtime

Sure you had hard cc more in classic/bc but that less to do with “thinking” than just not having tools to deal with it.

For example the pterodactyls in atal have a aoe 5 second aoe fear that’s interruptible, where as the naga on slave pens is instant cast.

The trash today is far more engaging than its ever been, especially as I mentioned above with beguiling.

Not only is there more thinking to be done you also have to do it faster and on the fly.

For example you start a dungeon and you see an emissary in the normal route you go where there’s another path available, what do you do, deal with emissary or go a different path?

Feel like you’re hating it without actually trying it.

To me, CC was a failure when we started using it on every single pull. There’s no depth the way we were using it in vanilla. Whenever I tanked, I preferred charging in and relying on me and my healer using cooldowns and, you know, actually playing our classes. We were never in risk of wiping. It was just boring tanking one thing at a time while the others were sheeped.

aoe grinding, whether outdoor solo or in a dungeon, can actually be fun, and arguably more engaging than running quests, but, to each their own.
