Am I the one being unreasonable?

Hello wow community

I am a world of warcraft player or I should say I was.

I played through almost the entire end of shadowlands.

Suffice to say, due to a number of changes the developers made (seemingly around the start of BFA until now (Dragonflight or whatever the new expansion is called).

I just felt certain “fictional foundations” that made up this game world for more than a few decades now were being erased or altered with no real explanations to suddenly explain specific changes.

So, I made a decision. I deleted almost all of my toons except this one new character just in case I ever decide to come back to wow and start over again.

Now, pointless of me to go into what I didn’t like about wow anymore as 1. None of my critiques will matter and 2. It’s not the main point of this post.

So what is the main point of this post?

Here is the thing. I made a bad assumption. I assumed that certain “fictional foundations” that I felt were laid out long ago would be preserved and thus I bought a-lot of game time over the last few years.

At the time of this writing, I roughly had about a year and half left.

So just before this piece I’m writing to you now, I asked for a refund for my remaining game time.

What I proposed to the support staff or GM’s was that they could take all of my remaining game time (freezing my account) and I wouldn’t even expect a full refund.

All I asked is a partial (half) refund for all of my remaining game time. I felt I was being fair. Considering I made these purchases awhile back and thus Blizzard could still make some money from me but I wouldn’t have a total finanical loss here with game time that I still possess but have no real intention on using.

Before all this too (as I said, I really last played this game around the end of shadowlands), meaning I didn’t even buy the new expansion this time for wow.

Thus, I haven’t even really played wow for months already. Except a few times just to really check mail for maybe 10 minutes or to check on this status of a partial refund.

They explained to me that their policy would not allow to give me even a partial refund even though I explained to them that though I bought an excessive amount of game time that I still have I felt I was being robbed now since I have no real intention on using it.

They stated they could get my viewpoint but still said it was against their refund policy since my game time purchases were made more than two weeks back and some of that game time was purchased with tokens.

In any case, as a consolation prize they said (as a vet) of wow, they would give me six months of free game time. I suppose in the case, I ever decide to go back and well then I will at least have six more months then I presently had at the time I contacted these GM"s for a possible partial refund.

So am I the one being unreasonable here? As I said, I didn’t expect a full refund on time I already purchased. I just wanted some of my money back. They would still make some profit from my previously purchased game time.

However, again as I have no real intention of playing this game I can’t escape the feeling that I have been robbed as I now have all this play time I have no real desire to use?

My present time on my account will end now sometime in early March of 2025.

Thanks for any feedback.

Let it go and move on. Aside from “buyer beware,” you sound like you’re done. It isn’t worth the hassle.

I mean it’s incredibly vague so all I can say is I hope you find something that you like?

The assumption was on your part you’ve got a chance to play the game. Still do until your subscription ends. No they can’t save you from yourself

You exchanged money for a service. You understood what you were purchasing at the time of the transaction. Blizzard’s still delivering the service you paid for, never mind that it no longer caters to your wholly-subjective assumptions about the product’s nature.

You’re not getting your money back because this is buyer’s remorse.

yup you are unreasonable - they state they don’t give refunds. Anyone who buys a year and a half of game time isn’t acting in a reasonable manner in the first place - like why?

So you haven’t been happy with the game since BFA? And you continued to buy excessive amounts of game time?..

“Unreasonable” is not the adjective I would use.

No, I said or I meant to say.

I started buying excessive amounts of game time say near the beginning of BFA. I liked the beginning of BFA.

Some of the changes I felt went against lore or a better way to describe what I mean is calling certain changes to “fictional foundations” of this game world that I felt had been pre-established over the last few decades since this story world was created in the first place that I didn’t agree with happened around somewhere in the middle of BFA (so sometime after, the beginning of BFA).

this is their policy - you agreed to it

If it takes that many words to tell the story

Its 100% you being unreasonable

But since these changes didn’t come all at once. Some, I could stomach and continued playing the game and near around the end of shadowlands is when I felt the game was going in directions I didn’t recognize anymore as something I wanted to play anymore.

so you’ve bought several years worth of time that you have decided you no longer want to use or something?

Yeah, and I did it over time (because I assumed) wrongly that certain “fictional foundations” I felt were givens in this game world would remain true which they did not.

I’m not sure what fictional foundations means in this context but it sounds like its completely irrelevant to your refund status. I’m sorry but if you made these purchases so long ago you’ve had more than enough time to ask for a refund.

If it is past the 14 day cut off for refunds you are not entitled to any refund so yeah you are being unreasonable.

They thank you for your money, but there is nothing you can do about it now.

I couldn’t read all of that. All I can figure out is that you don’t like the story direction. Valid criticism. Didn’t require a wall of text

Edit: how are you locked in til 2025? They don’t have 2 year subscription plans.

You can buy game time unlimited and it’ll just add up to your subscription balance

Oh cool. Not a smart decision personally but good to know. Thanks.

Maybe don’t do that on your next game.

I am month to month for a reason. If Blizzard is willing to give you a credit that’s nice of them, but I don’t expect them to jump through hoops to figure out how much you’ve played and if you deserve a full or partial refund.

Also not even sure how you got 1.5 years of game time other than via WoW tokens so they certainly wouldnt refund you for that. Did you buy a 6 month sub package and then the year long? Cause if so then you definitely fell for their marketing tactics and that should be a lesson learned for you.

Well that was dumb of you. I’m not even trying to be mean, I just don’t know why anyone would continuously buy time in a piecemeal fashion. Sub price hasn’t changed since launch and other than sub packages or promos there’s no deals to be had. I cannot come up with any rationale reason to casually buy months and build up time. You could just of easily been on 6 month sub package instead.

This type of post looks familiar as though I have seen the exact same thing somewhat recently. Have you posted this before…?
