I am trying to heal better and easier, and the Blizzard UI with slight modifications (Vuhdo, Bartender) plus WA is fine right now. People like Jak and Ellesmere use ElvUI, though, and I’ve tried Elvui. I didn’t like it because it was jarring seeing how everything changed after I installed Elvui. I couldn’t see anything that mattered, so I dumped it for my original UI setup.
Do I need ElvUI for healing difficult (20s) content?
No. You can try Healbot or Vuhdo or mouseover macros. I’d suggest a healing Discord for help with that. I don’t know the best one, so someone here may have an idea.
I have not run any 20+ Mythics, but I do generally fund that Healbot is an excellent addon for healers (and it has some benefit for other classes too as it can also be used to remove curses, etc).
I tried ElvUI, didn’t care for it and removed it. I think that’s more personal preference than anything.
ElvUI just allows alot of customization it takes a little getting used too, and after its set up how you want its really hard to go back to the default UI. as for needing it for 20’s no probably not needed the default has all the same info just in different spots.
You guys I tell ya, an addon like Elvui is exactly what you make it. Here is me running Elvui in what I like to call “I don’t like Elvui because it changes everything mode”
So, stupid forum rules, I can’t post links. Look at some youtube videos on how to set up a healer UI. There’s a lot of them that aren’t that helpful, but there are a few that explain good reasons to move large portions of the UI.
A lot of it comes down to your field of vision. Especially when it is stressful, it is important to have the critical information close to where your eyes are going to be most of the time. Then, it’s important to get the rest of the information away from that area so that it is FAR easier to notice when something important is happening, or about to happen.
How you do that is entirely up to you. ElvUI is popular because of how well you can move everything to where it works best for you. It’s also popular for it’s visual modifications giving the UI a cohesive, more modern look, but, of course, that’s simply preference.
Almost everything that ElvUI does can be done other ways. The default interface has been modified to allow us to move more, and there are thousands of addons out there, so you can probably find an addon to duplicate anything ElvUI does without having to use the entire ElvUI to do it if you aren’t going to be using many of the modifications of ElvUI.
All that’s really “necessary” is that you have easy visibility of the information you need. That typically means moving, adding and removing certain UI elements. How you do that is entirely up to you.
Yeah. I used to hate Elvui. Then I loved it. Then I hated it again. There are just enough really nice features to elvui that keep me coming back to it. I can’t really make up my mind on it, but I still use it and only it currently so idk, haha.
The main benefit is that it contains the majority of UI add-ons that everyone uses in one place. It’s incredibly convenient if you ever have to set up your UI from scratch for whatever reason.
If you’re willing to set up what you need without Elvui you’re more than fine though. There is no single part of elvui that cannot be achieved through combinations of other add-ons/Weakauras. If there is something you see someone using elvui doing there is most likely a way to achieve the same result through different methods.
That being said, for me it was worth it to just get used to Elvui because I really dislike spending hours setting up a UI which I have to do if I actually want to be satisfied with it. With Elvui I only had to do that once and I don’t have to worry about all the different add-ons being out of date/abandoned/conflicting etc.
I use it because I like it. Since installing it however, it didn’t make my heals better or easier. I could do everything I needed with mouse over macros and the default raid frames, which showed all the dispellable debuffs.
ElvUI is totally optional and won’t make you a better healer.
I use nothing but clique and the base Raid frames to heal.
Great thing about the base raid frames, they always show new buffs/debuffs without having to add anything. I’ve had problems with every other raid frame where new content would be released and it wouldn’t have all the important buffs/debuffs.
