Been banging my head against the wall trying to get the mage tower challenge done… closest I’ve gotten is 37% on my shadow priest
I hop over to my frost mage that I haven’t played in 2 expansions (other than to level him to max) and get the boss to 20% on my 3rd try
Idk but it seems like shadow just has everything stacked against it. The challenge requires kiting, which we suck at. It also requires quick frequent burst (for hands) which we suck at. And it requires consistent interrupts, which we also don’t have 
Just feeling pretty discouraged after how much easier it seemed on my mage
I think it’s fair to say that the average player hasn’t been asked to do many of the things the shadow mage tower challenge asks them to do. It’s understandable therefore to struggle, especially if you don’t particularly have a good plan to deal with things.
First thing to note is the fight is tuned differently for shadow than for example hunter or mage, both of those specs are expected to be able to kite Karam forever, so their bosses have more hp and Karam gains stacks faster. Karam is actually pretty slow for shadow, and Raest has about 80k less hp, making the final phase less of a consistency check and more of a DPS race. Something we can do if we have a plan.
Shadow has the tools to do this, two different ways in fact, but you have to plan them out and line them up with the relevant mechanics.
So what’s your plan at the moment? And let’s see if we can fix it so you can beat this.

Well I’ve tried the slow strategy and the burn strategy of killing Karam. So far the burn strategy seems to get me further and it’s easier since there are less mechanics once Karam is dead
My issue seems to come down to running out of cds/healing once Raest is enraged. I think I’m either not dealing enough damage, or not getting him low enough in the previous phases.
I usually run void torrent for hand burst, and try to fit 2 into the first phase Raest is vulnerable. I also use voidform and power infusion.
The second time Raest becomes available I try to use voidform and power infusion again, then use drums to finish off Karam while keeping Raest dotted
But I always end up running out of heals and cds (If I don’t mess up on hands or rune soaks lol)
Is there an ideal percentage I should get Raest to before I kill Karam? He just has so much health… For some reason he has less on my frost mage (130k vs 133k), which makes no sense since my mage has FAR more control over Karam
Errr, yes. 50 is like… The absolute max hp raest can have left if you’re burning Karam and then tanking shadow bolts. But that’s going to require you to cycle a full mana bar of healing, then VE, then another full mana bar of healing, then disperse, then another full mana bar of healing, then whatever you have (pot prayer).
If you go for the burn raest strat and ignore Karam in p5, you want him sub 40 at least, but ideally as close to 30% as possible.
If you burn raest I recommend lusting p2. And pushing for a DPS burn of at least 65% in that phase with fiend VF pi lust pot and 2 torrents. The exact order of spells to use in your p2 burn opener is in the wowhead guide as of December 24th.
This is literal aids, almost impossible, even with broken trinks and gemmed twink gear.
That’s simply not the case, I’ll be happy to offer any assistance I can though.
I’ve got 246 attempts on guardian druid and 63 on shadow priest, I’ve tried single target and multi target builds w/o any luck, and I see people flying around with the challenge mount and my blood pressure sky rockets, I’m simply trying to get a single mog, and there’s people who completed EVERY challenge, there’s no way. I’ve been playing this game for 17 years, every ability is keybinded, I use focus/@player 1,2,3 macros, and I know my class flawlessly. Did these challenges in Legion w/o having to do more than 70 attempts on any class, these are overtuned beyond comprehension.
Would you be against me offering some assistance on discord through screenshare? For the shadow one that is.
I’m not going to get into discussions about how hard things should be etc etc, I just wanna help as many people complete this challenge as possible.

I’ll try using hero and cds in the first burn phase and see if that helps. I just can’t seem to survive long enough when he’s at 40-50% by the time the last phase starts
That’s only for not killing Karam mind you, you confused me in your original post.
Also please tell me you’re using better than those PvP trinkets 
not that I expect people to have tripped out characters, but still. Almost anything would be better.

Edit: Is there a DBM addon for mage tower fights? I realized yesterday that towards the end of the fight I tend to zone out and stop focusing on what mechanic is coming up next. Maybe if I had some timers to show it I would stay more focused
wow now no hating on pvp gear for mt. SOME OF US were stuck with it uwu.

The gear is fine but you have to admit the trinkets are kinda questionable for this challenge lol
I guess the haste badge with the int proc would be good tho 
I refuse to believe anyone is ‘stuck with’ a PvP cc break trinket or maledict. There’s a vendor that sells stat sticks literally outside the mage tower.
Or you can grab a compendium of storms off the ah, or any world quest trinket.
It’s not a case of not having something good, it’s a case of using something that does something. Even the PvP stat proc trinket is fine.
There is, yes, there’s also numerous weakaura packs and such to help with sound warnings and making certain things more obvious.
I promise. It feels impossible until it isn’t. Until you finally see the full plan, can execute a bit more each time and get a hold of what needs to be done. I had to watch and learn from a few videos and vods over and over to catch my issues. Once cleaned up. Boom. Took no time at all.
Yes they are called dbm challenges you have to download in addition to the base mod.
just do it as Discipline, much easier

I did the slow strategy but I think Karam moves now?
The fast strategy didn’t work for me but I’m in shadowlands pvp gear so it would’ve if I had to get BIS gear maybe which is the only way to do it now.
