So this is the first time I play wow “seriously” and I’ve been having a hard time leveling in Westfall. I feel like I’m clearly doing something wrong, almost all the mobs are 2 levels higher than me and sometimes I die when I accidentally pull 2 mobs. Anyways, should I level up in another zone and then come back or am I just bad?
Sorry if my grammar is weird, its not my first language
Naw man, you are doing fine.
Just group up for quest chains. I found the same thing there. It’s just one of those places where you might need to go up one or two levels to have things go “Easier”.
It gets better. there are some long Quest lines there so you it can feel like things have slowed down in regards to leveling up fast…
Youre not doing something wrong per se. In classic, you want or sometimes have to group up with other people. Level ranges in zones can be quite big. I think the largest level range in one single zone are the barrens - spanning like 20 levels. In one part of the zone you might be able to solo entire groups of mobs - in another you cant even fight two without dying. Indeed in the south of Westfall I was leveling with two guildies the other day, and when we pulled one gnoll camp (4-5 gnolls) we needed to actually CC (me in particular in that case because I was on my classic warlock, and without fears we would have died). So generally dont worry, just group up with people that are on the same quests you are and all will be fine
When things are hard, ask other people if they want to group up. Most people will probably join. Even ask in general chat. There’s been a few times in the game where I’ve needed to grind a few bars worth of mobs, just because the quests were orange or had a harder difficulty than my character could manage.
Kill mobs not related to your quests. Often. If you pass a level 13 boar, kill it. If you pass a level 16 bandit, kill it. Do this to everything. You’ll have way more money and experience. You might get a single green that greatly improves your power.
Go to darkshore or lochmodan and quest there till it becomes too hard. Rinse and repeat. Im doing this right now by bouncing between, Ashenvale, Wetlands and soon going to Duskwood. Classic is not so cut n dry that you can go to one place and annihialte as the quest line progresses. You must be ready and willing to either travel to distant lands and embark on new adventures to strengthen yourself. Or repeatedly grind mobs to catch your level up.
My Hunter is there, from 14-16 now. I went to stormwind to train and only have 2 defias bandanas left to get from all of those quests.
It is a great leveling zone, you should not have trouble at 15.
Are you doing the quests, which allow you to kill any mobs in the zone?
Westfall Stew
Goretusk Liver
Defias bandanas
etc?
If you notice, lower level mobs (for the same quests) are in the north/northeastern part of the map while higher level ones are in the south and south western. So it is very easy to kind of stay in your level range, while still collecting items for the quests.
The great thing about the area is that EVERY mob is related to those quests. Here is a level 13 boar, check, here is a level 12 vulture, check, oh here are some defias again, ah some gnolls.
My Hunter is soloing the area very easily, you just have to remember that those guys really chain (like if you think you are only going to get one thing from a camp, no you get all 3 )
Or yeah, group up if you want.
I forgot how great areas like that were, which is why my Vanilla NE Hunter moved to the human areas. Once out of Westfall, it will be on to Duskwood (which is a FANTASTIC zone for xp and gear), then Stranglethorn.
Hello there. Your grammar was fine. You are not doing anything wrong. One part of playing Classic is to know that the developers used to purposefully place mobs close together to entice you to group up with nearby players and work together.
However…for most of the questing you should be able to plan out who you should pull. Watch the direction the mobs walk. Try to learn when you can tag just one mob out of the group. And when that is not possible, try to invite someone to a group to work together. And when THAT is not possible, work to find out if the quest is something you can safely skip\abandon…or go to a previous zone to level up\train.
You went to westfall straight away instead of going to Loch. You messed up. Don’t stay in one zone, diversify and go adventuring. The zones are not linear.
