Am I crazy or is Night Fae BiS for 80% of classes?

The very first public parse, it was just the base abilities. No conduits. even then the soul shape was far quicker than the Teleport. The Necrobubble better for standing in fire dps higher etc. Casting the ability in combat was always poor, even in his video.

It wasn’t really just once he mentioned it, it was over a course of videos. The 40yrd range allowed you to potentially skip trash packs, and the ability to traverse terrain was similarly useful.

Even when it comes to raid mechanics having that extra range goes a long to making it more useable as the justification for the cast time becomes more valid.

Yeah he was a broken record about it lol. I’m glad to see things played out differently. It would be nice to fix some abilities from covenants to be less Niche instead of the straight AOE or single target, pvp.

Did it though? It basically went from everyone being Venthyr to everyone being Night Fae.

In, random BGs I tend to see 1 or 2 Covenants per class at most–I can count the times on 0 hands I have seen a Venthyr or Necrolord druid. I am sure close to 25% of DHs are necroload as well, /s.

Funny, I thought the rule was Kyrian is technically better than most NF for most stuff, it’s just boring, or it’s damage bonuses show up on other people so you don’t feel as good.

Yeah, My warrior is Venthyr, I was in love with the aesthetic and being a Worgen, fits great with the atmosphere and well condemn is <3. But I don’t wanna make my DH go venthyr just because it’s the only good covenant for it. Nightfae looks like a second, I will probably go with that. I bet we won’t see any new improvements till Blizzconline tho :stuck_out_tongue: .

Some people keep saying they hate the name for the event, but… I dunno I think it’s great. Bring on the dadpuns.

Yeah, running the thoughts through my head. I’m probably gonna stop sitting here in front of the covenant ambassadors because the min/maxer in me wants performance but I’m sick of Fae. It’s late and I’ll have to see what the closest runner up is tomorrow and see if I’m willing to go with that and hope of balance later.

I appreciate the comments, but yeah back in beta I felt like it was more diverse though I could be wrong because of limited info, even if one or two classes got a one choice best covenant. After that last round of ‘balance’ seems like everyone got the ticket to go to Ardenweald.

Isn’t true, their transmogs are bad.

Pre Pelagos nerf this was correct.

But they nerfed his final trait from giving 3% Versatility to 3% reduced magic damage taken, which either made Niya better, or made the difference small enough that Soulshape acts as a dealbreaker as a generally much stronger ability than Phial, again outside PvP/Tanking at least.

It goes in “You are self-handicapping for choosing the covenant you thematically enjoy” slot.

For an example, me, a Venthyr Fire Mage, playing at my best, will always lose to an equally geared Night Fae Fire Mage in PvE. Why? Because our strength comes from Combustion and they can cast it a lot more often because every 60s they get a CD reduction on all their spells, which also makes starting with 3 Fire Blasts during their combustion a lot easier than any other mage covenant.

At the same time, your Night Fae Paladin will always lose to an equally geared Venthyr or Kyrian Paladin in DPS or Heals because you have an utility spell that is almost worthless in Raids compared to the AoE/Double judgement/Avenger’s Shield or AoE Holy Shock or 4mim CD Burst Damage/Healing.

It’s just as well I stopped caring about raiding, then

Blizzard was warned that stuff was coming and ignored the warnings, as usual.

Next, they start nerfing covenants and cause an even bigger outrage and exodus from the game as people quit in frustration. The only people left will be those like me who got tired of “competitive” and just want to enjoy the game world - well, those of us that are left after the casualties of “raid or die,” anyway…

I went against the expected. Every class you mentioned I had join other covenants. Hunter venthyr, druid necrolord/venthyr, lock venthyr, mage necrolord. I hated the night fae ability for hunters and druids, the lock ability was trash to me and the mage ability was utterly useless as well to me. Only toons I had join night fae were my holy pallie, resto shamans, and mistweaver monk. I liked the abilities for those classes.

Whether it is backed up by statistical data or not, according to websites like Icy Veins and Method… Night Fae is the recommended covenant for a majority of classes. People always come on here and argue semantics… A majority of the people follow online guides. I think this is a BIG problem for Blizz, they need to balance the covenants and offer people a free and total swap. What we have now is NOT what was advertised.

Interesting. I play prot pal and now vDH (switching for meta) and both are Kyrian required.

By the way Night Fae mission board is OP as hell while Kyrian mission board is beyond totally broken bad.

correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Venthyr the BiS for bear butt druids?

Pretty clear they were worried noone would choose the ‘lame nature covenant’ and everyone would be venthyr “cool guy vampire” and overcompensated so now everyone is playing it for the retarded OP soulshape even if they hate the story, characters, look, and everything about it.

Ironically this is also similar to how they overcompensated and ruined faction balance because they were worried about too few people playing “ugly horde” in vanilla so they added blood elves AND gave them op racials and completely blew up the faction balance which has never recovered.

But they should be. Not my fault they are dumb

DK should be NF if you’re PVPing. Venthyr is just better for PVE with mist.

Ouch, I didn’t know about that. The cast time of Door of Shadows is very long. Even a 0.25-0.50s cast time reduction would make it a lot friendlier to use. It’s scary as a mobility crutch in most raid encounters because if you accidentally interrupt it you’ll die.
