My ele shaman can only pull 32k dps at 418 ilvl. I am a liability to my group. I am speced into lightning rod, the most recommended build for mythic +. I only run mythic plus and even the main tank does more damage than me.
Doing damage on ele requires a pretty solid understanding of the spec buff/debuff interactions and proper sequencing. It’s entirely possible you’re making mistakes. Do you have a log?
Try an addon called ConRo.
It helps give you an idea of what buttons you should be pressing when.
Your rotation is probably just way off, and this will train your brain and fingers better.
I’m going to assume you don’t have tier, if you do then I would strongly recommend looking at guides in the Shaman Discord ,or Storm Earth and Lava, even just WoWhead.
At least for dungeons, just primarily focusing on Chain Lighting and Earthquake will do wonders for basic AoE, 4+ targets. I would advise not touching Echoes of the great Sundering, not because it’s bad but if you are just trying to bump numbers with less complexity that will be the easiest thing to do.
Similarly if you are taking Icefury and Electrified shocks talents, on 4 or less targets it is beneficial to keep the Electrified Shocks debuff in enemies. However, it might be better just to chuck them out instead of just not using those buffed Frost Shocks.
The one good habit I would recommend though is just making sure your maelstrom is spent and to weave in a lighting bolt (on Single Target) after every spender.
Overall just be sure to hit the buttons and avoid trying to complicate your rotation. When you feel more comfortable then go for buff management and spender swapping, until then keep it simple. The nuances are important but again keep it simple.
