Let me first say that I have never played 2 full seasons of wow in a row. I’ve played legion, shadowlands, a bit of classic, the last month of TWW season 1, and TWW season 2. While I’m sure many people are excited about the start of season 3 and doing whatever kind of content they most enjoy, I once again have this feeling that is compelling me to take a break from this game. I don’t quite understand it and I’m guessing it probably doesn’t make sense for the people who have played continuously for many years…but can anyone else relate?
I mostly spend my time in wow doing m+ and occasionally do some solo kind of activities, but it’s like…do I really feel like jumping back on that hampster wheel of feeling compelled to keep up with everyone and not fall behind? There is one aspect that might make me continue playing and that is I’m familiar with all the dungeons in the m+ pool except the brand new one. I have a very clear memory of the beginning of shadowlands season 3 and looking at the new dungeon pool that I barely knew and not wanting to have to relearn so many new dungeons.
While many people have felt burnt out in the last few weeks it has been kind of nice not feeling so much pressure to grind. I’ve been hunting some old mounts/toys and finally felt I had the time to level up and gear a couple alts. Of course there’s nothing stopping me from continuing to do those things…but I’m a fairly competitive guy that will feel the need to keep up with everyone to fill out those vault slots as soon as possible.

If you feel the need to take a break, by all means do so, especially if it’s kinda your MO to only do a season here or there.
I don’t find the upcoming season 3 especially compelling, but am sticking around out of habit and don’t want to start a new game.
Have fun out there!
Because there is no difference, you are going to be doing the same thing during Season 3 as you were Season 1 and 2 lol. 8 dungeons, many you have already done, and a single raid.
I’ve never once felt compelled to keep up with everyone…I tend to keep up because I enjoy the game and like to play it
well then you’re setting yourself up for burnout.
the game’s a lot more enjoyable when you stop caring about this crap and just play for the fun of it, truly. it’s a video game, not a job.
not sure why this surprises you, given what you said above lol.
I dont know how you play.
I was hardcore on the first 3 versions of WoW. I was addicted to it. I was no Life-ing it but I had to control my addiction so I left. But I came back, but when I came back, I became Casual. Just doing some here and there… not much Progression. Then Legion introduced Dungeon Finder for Raid… I was able to Raid again and also did M+… but as Casual. I played all the rest of the Expansions as Casual. And I understand the repetition.
I just set my goal like my goal right now… KSM (accidentally got KSH and even got Underpin?? kill) and AoTC. No rush. I have the whole Season to do it. I understand that I would be left behind. So what? I play on my own pace. RL is now priority.
I have to do RL chores first like satisfy the wife and kid… going out of town, dinner date, attending parties with friends, spending time with them on theme parks and sometimes Las Vegas.
I also do my other hobby/projects… mounting all the TV’s on the wall, setting up a computer office on each bedrooms as my wife and now a grown up kid wants to work at home. I also play my keyboard, guitar and drums. I learned to cook food for them. After doing all of these, if I have a spare time usually at night, only then I could play WoW. I never get burnt out like I was in early years of WoW.
I like the current WoW system. I have a week to do the Vault/Delve. And I dont need to become a Sweatlord who plays like there’s no tomorrow. I just play at slow pace thinking that I have the whole Season to accomplish my small goals. I even played Diablo 4 and Age of Empires 4 when I had a break in Dragonflight. GG.

oh really? how do you burn out with nothing to do hehe
is it about the collectors bounty buff thing? that’s their problem.
I take a break every single season.
I get all 10 portals from M+
Do the nemesis boss ??
Get AOTC from Heroic Raid
I was done with this patch way back in like April, before they even released the horriffic visions or empowered delve mini patches.
The only reason I came back this particular season was because of the Collectors Bounty buff which was amazing and even then, we are talking 1 day a week of running for ONLY the mounts I actually wanted (Invincible is ugly and old who cares)
Then I’m done! That’s it!
Some people like to stick around and push higher IO or work on a ton of alts, or dabble in Mythic Raiding. Personally, that’s all dog water for me.
You do whatever you like to do and it’s okay to be done when you reach a point to where it’s no longer engaging and fun.
A lot of people are affected by “FOMO” in this game and at this point nobody cares except the people who no-life the game. Congrats on your no–life transmog that you never even use because it’s actually ugly.
Do what serves you and nevermind the predatory tactics they try to use to make you think you want something that you don’t give a crap about in reality when all is said and done. It helps with burnout big time!

lol i actually thought the season 3 started tomorrow…well i guess i have another week to decide if i want to continue playing
I play wrong. Years ago I chased ilvl and RNG would frustrate me. The game stopped being fun.
I shifted to Ultra Mega Casual WoW Player.
I run around on foot taking in the scenery and collecting stuff at my own pace. If that means my ilvl is low and I miss out on some rewards, I honestly don’t care.
I have enjoyed this game more since I gave up on mythic plus. I came to the game two days after the dark portal opened in burning Crusade. At that time heroics were the top end of the pillar and raiding was the biggest option. I got tired of the go fast, consume everything, beat the timer mentality that came with the competitive challenge mode of my mythic, plus.
For the last three expansions, I haven’t bothered with it and I have been worlds happier with the game. I can still see all of the content through heroics and LFR and I don’t have to worry about a timer or somebody yelling because we pulled one trash mob too many. Fun is a very subjective concept but if you’re not having fun anymore, it’s probably the content you’re running or the people you’re running it with.

I take breaks every expansion.
I stopped playing Shadowlands after I finished the Campaign, returned briefly for the Korthia campaign, and then didn’t really play Shadowlands for an extended period until the Zereth Mortis patch.
I absolutely loved Dragonflight, but I still quit for most of Season 2. I played the Zaralek Cavern campaign and didn’t come back until Emerald Dream.
I definitely burned out at the end of Dragonflight. I went all-in on Mists of Pandaria, and after I saw The War Within campaign finale I needed a break. I mostly stopped until the Undermine campaign, and then stopped until 11.1.7.
I’ll probably need another break soon.
There are a lot of things to do. They don’t all need to be in Azeroth.
Yeah, that’s probably the most compelling reason for me.
I’ve spent the last few weeks leveling toons during turbulent time ways. I’m on the last 3 and then I’ll have 1 of every race at level 80 (which also includes one of every class
)
Also got my actual alts I play to 660 ilvl.
I don’t think I even played this much in DF, last time I played this much was probably Legion.

This is a choice you are making. If you’ve been having fun doing casual stuff and want to just keep doing casual stuff, why not? There’s a ton of people playing and enjoying the game without doing any keys or raid or pvp. Do some of that when you feel like, don’t when you don’t. Its not a big deal.
After six months, I’m very excited for a new major patch.
Usually there are lots of catch up systems in place so that it’s never too hard to catch back up if somebody falls behind! I get being competitive, wanting to stay geared up and pushing stuff. But even if you wanted a break and come back, I’m sure getting caught up wouldn’t be so bad!
Just play when you want to. I didn’t subscribe to the game for like 3/4ths of season 2 because I wasn’t feeling the gimmicky D.R.I.V.E thing and the tone of the zone. Sure enough my instincts were right and when I came back I hated the car and I hated how small the zone was (should be a lot bigger if they wanted to make driving around a thing)
I got caught up and geared to kill Underpin ?? which is all I cared about pretty much.
I do plan on playing season 3 more because I’m more excited about it for some reason, but it’s up to the individual.
