Alts as bodyguards

I love bodyguards. Having someone else with me to kick faces with without needing another player is one of the best feelings.

But so far all the bodyguard options are limited to specific continents. Which is lame.

I want a more robust bodyguard system, that allows you to take your alts along with you for any adventure you want (outside of instances of course).

When you go to an Inn, the Innkeeper would have a dialog option to ask around for other adventurers in need of work. Doing so would open a menu with all your alts, letting you pick one to be your bodyguard.

Once a bodyguards is picked they will follow you through the open world like past bodyguards, but with no zone restrictions. They’ll go anywhere you go.

It won’t be a perfect copy of your alt. Their level and ilvl would scale with you, and they’d have a simplified ability pool that doesn’t take specialization, talents, or race into account. In essence there would be 12 bodyguards total, and your alts just determine their appearance.

Classes would be divided up evenly between the roles.

DPS: Hunter, Rogue, Warlock, Mage.
Tank: Warrior, Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Monk.
Healer: Paladin, Shaman, Druid, Priest.

Even if you don’t play your paladin as a healer, as a bodyguards they would mainly provide you healing.

As a bodyguard your character looks exactly how they do while playing them, Same mog, same barbershop options. Same weapons, even if the role they’re using doesn’t use that weapon load out.

Alternatively you can save a transmog outfit to be your bodyguard outfit just like you can save certain mogs to certain specs.

If you don’t like bodyguarding with your own characters, you would get the option to unlock past bodyguards for the system.

  • WoD bodyguards would require personal Wingman reputation and the completion of their quests.
  • Legion bodyguards would get their own personal quests to complete to unlock them.
  • Nazjatar bodyguards would require combat level 30.

Once that’s done you can use them anywhere just like one of your alts.

I like this!

I wonder if the coding would support it. But a lot of people would really like this even if it did have some zone restrictions.

I loved the bodyguards in Legion if I liked the character.

Tess Greymane, the Vengeance tank with Blonde hair… Lili Stormstout.

I’d even settle for a bodyguard system that just pulled from your Class hall. But all of them.

Seriously let me run around with Arator.

I agree this is a good idea but Fun to blizz is not the same Fun for players. Blizz said at some point something along the lines of Legion was the last time they’d implement bodyguards and going forward they weren’t going to be a thing. As far as I’m aware, we are continuing without them in SL too.

My name is chax and i support this

I’ve generally been displeased with bodyguards in WoW. I guess I wouldn’t mind if they gave an alternative that didn’t require us to drag around an NPC. The way Legion had it where you could get a companion, a proc, or an on-use ability would work for me.

So you want multiboxing to just be automated.

:expressionless:

This sounds fun.

Love this idea! it would also tie into proper housing and maybe even a personalized hometown perhaps who knows the imagination is the only limit

Garrisons should have been in SW and Org. That way they could have continued to be relevant. Just make them casual fun side games. Gathering/crafting interior decor.

Just roll a hunter, you can tame all the bodyguards you want.

I actually pitched an idea/suggestion like this during WoD beta… Where if instead of a random garrison bodyguard if instead you could have an alt as a companion…

and as a bonus, it can be a method to help level your alts, as the more you level and do activities with your alt set as a bodyguard/companion, they gain exp. Obviously, not as much exp as if you were to log in and level them up traditionally, but something (i.e. 1/2 or 1/3 exp or whatever).

Also, if you get item drops which you can’t use or don’t need, you can apply them to your alt on the spot and will replace the gear they had on (old gear ends up in their bags/mailbox).
