Alts are mailing me reagents?

I apologize if this is a silly question.

First off, since I came back, I have been doing “completionist” stuff from original WoW up through WoD. When I last quit, I had just bought Legion and BARELY touched the content. So I have not had a character anywhere higher in the expacs really than WoD.

So I recently created a couple of alts to experience some of the other professions.

One is a warrior with Herbalism. I think I have him up to lvl 22.

I haven’t used him in weeks, yet suddenly it appears I am getting mail from him over the past week, when I open mailbox on my main, I have 3 crates in there, mail from my alt, with a bunch of herbs in there.

Since I haven’t touched any of the content past WoD, I know nothing about “crafting orders”, etc., don’t even know how to do that at this point.

The crates show (right now) mail “expiration” dates of 27 days, 25 days, and 23 days.

So it appears every couple of day, starting maybe a week ago, this alt that I haven’t touched in weeks is sending me herbs.

Am I losing my mind? Is my alt living his own life over there, like an AI running around in WoW while I’m working, sleeping, or mowing the lawn? Is he traipsing about making a spectacle of himself all over Azeroth without my knowledge? Is he using my identity and credit cards racking up debt?

What is going on?

Is it possible that you sent these items in the mail to your alts previously? Mail has a 30 day expiration, then it would be returned to the sender in the mail with the same expiration timer.

Yeah, as above stated.

Sounds like you mailed the items to said alt, alt never grabbed them, now they are being returned to the sender after the 30 day limit.

I used to deliberately do this to use the mail as a pseudo bank before warbands were a thing.

That would be it…I didn’t think of that. Yeah, as I was gathering stuff up, I have been mailing back and forth to the alt that could use it. Didn’t think of it as I assumed it would just be deleted.

Whew, now I can sleep at night, and don’t have to worry about cancelling my credit cards and checking my credit rating.

Glad that it had an easy answer. Just make sure you pick it up this time, if the return expires (unopened mail, auction house, crafting orders, etc) it is actually deleted.
