Greetings to my fellow Altholics!
I’ve created this topic to interact with those who (I assume), just like myself, enjoy (a lot) having a bunch of alts and playing the game outside the “traditional” path of progression, such as focusing only on endgame content. So, I’ll leave here a list of topics for those interested in providing some input.
. How many alts do you have at the moment and how wide are they spread (i.e. across how many servers, factions, etc)
I’m currently with around 20-23 alts (including some old ones that I plan to restore). My thing with alts started with Legion due to the Class Hall Campaigns/Unique Mounts. This was the game-changer to me. Despite the high number of characters, I’m a very casual player and this was the perfect incentive to me to try a bit of every class. Until BFA, I had Horde-only characters. After the character limit per-servers was lifted, I decided to embrace the Alliance side after a long period (my main was originally Alliance). This is because I hated to have chars spread on different servers. Sure it sounds crazy, but I love to log on to “see” all them in a single space. Even though Illidan, where I play, is 99% Horde, all my Alliance guys are there (never thought I’d be thankful for CRZ one day, otherwise Stormwind would look like a ghost town).
. It’d be naive for me to ask “what is your objective” with so many alts, because we altholics have a bunch of “checklists” in our minds. So instead I’d ask what is your current focus at this time.
Mine is to unlock all Heritage Armor Sets. This was, in my humble opinion, one of the coolest things BFA/Legion brought to WoW, and one worthy grind with unique reward. I unlocked all from Horde already, now working on Alliance. A long way to go (particularly long for my favorite, Dark Iron. Still have a whole war campaign + 7thLegion rep). As a second focus, I’d list farming Honor Levels and mounts and xmog, as usual.
. How do you approach leveling with your alts? Do you take the speed runner approach or do you enjoy a more paced experience?
I used most heirloom gear as possible, but no longer take the questing approach or dungeons. Nowadays, I find PVP leveling the most fun experience, although sometimes it can be harsh. It’s so unpredictable, as you never know if you’ll wait and face a full twink premade group, or have a closer match, and so many other variations. Depending on when do you play, queue times + uncertain chance of winning may hinder a lot the leveling pace if speed is a concern.
Because of this, I opt for the dungeon finder at some situations.
. Which class/specialization do you play the most, and the least?
Running an army of alts is anything but new, I’ve read many different cases in the past. Some like to level one char per spec. Others have one male, female of all races but same spec. My main is Warrior, so naturally most of my alts follow this path. Fury being favorite spec, due to almost endless transmog sets possibilities. Second would be I think Hunters and Mages. The least played is Shadow Priest (I really dislike Shadowform graphics) and Brewmaster monk (I never learned stagger mechanics).
. Do you enjoy the in-game music/sounds or you have a specific playlist/band to listen while leveling?
Listening to the very same in-game music over and over again might be exhausting for some. I do appreciate the low level zones music and many others. It really depends if I want to immerse myself on questing at a particular zone. Otherwise, for PVPing, a spotify playlist does the job.
That’s it. if you read all this, thank you for your time and I wish you the best. If you came looking for TLDR, there isn’t one, but I wish the best for you too!
Cheers
