Altholics Chill Thread

Greetings to my fellow Altholics!

I’ve created this topic to interact with those who (I assume), just like myself, enjoy (a lot) having a bunch of alts and playing the game outside the “traditional” path of progression, such as focusing only on endgame content. So, I’ll leave here a list of topics for those interested in providing some input.

. How many alts do you have at the moment and how wide are they spread (i.e. across how many servers, factions, etc)

I’m currently with around 20-23 alts (including some old ones that I plan to restore). My thing with alts started with Legion due to the Class Hall Campaigns/Unique Mounts. This was the game-changer to me. Despite the high number of characters, I’m a very casual player and this was the perfect incentive to me to try a bit of every class. Until BFA, I had Horde-only characters. After the character limit per-servers was lifted, I decided to embrace the Alliance side after a long period (my main was originally Alliance). This is because I hated to have chars spread on different servers. Sure it sounds crazy, but I love to log on to “see” all them in a single space. Even though Illidan, where I play, is 99% Horde, all my Alliance guys are there (never thought I’d be thankful for CRZ one day, otherwise Stormwind would look like a ghost town).

. It’d be naive for me to ask “what is your objective” with so many alts, because we altholics have a bunch of “checklists” in our minds. So instead I’d ask what is your current focus at this time.

Mine is to unlock all Heritage Armor Sets. This was, in my humble opinion, one of the coolest things BFA/Legion brought to WoW, and one worthy grind with unique reward. I unlocked all from Horde already, now working on Alliance. A long way to go (particularly long for my favorite, Dark Iron. Still have a whole war campaign + 7thLegion rep). As a second focus, I’d list farming Honor Levels and mounts and xmog, as usual.

. How do you approach leveling with your alts? Do you take the speed runner approach or do you enjoy a more paced experience?

I used most heirloom gear as possible, but no longer take the questing approach or dungeons. Nowadays, I find PVP leveling the most fun experience, although sometimes it can be harsh. It’s so unpredictable, as you never know if you’ll wait and face a full twink premade group, or have a closer match, and so many other variations. Depending on when do you play, queue times + uncertain chance of winning may hinder a lot the leveling pace if speed is a concern.
Because of this, I opt for the dungeon finder at some situations.

. Which class/specialization do you play the most, and the least?

Running an army of alts is anything but new, I’ve read many different cases in the past. Some like to level one char per spec. Others have one male, female of all races but same spec. My main is Warrior, so naturally most of my alts follow this path. Fury being favorite spec, due to almost endless transmog sets possibilities. Second would be I think Hunters and Mages. The least played is Shadow Priest (I really dislike Shadowform graphics) and Brewmaster monk (I never learned stagger mechanics).

. Do you enjoy the in-game music/sounds or you have a specific playlist/band to listen while leveling?

Listening to the very same in-game music over and over again might be exhausting for some. I do appreciate the low level zones music and many others. It really depends if I want to immerse myself on questing at a particular zone. Otherwise, for PVPing, a spotify playlist does the job.

That’s it. if you read all this, thank you for your time and I wish you the best. If you came looking for TLDR, there isn’t one, but I wish the best for you too!
Cheers

My name is Bessie, and I’m an Altoholic. I received my coin years ago, but when I clicked on it, it created a tall, vertical beam of light. Needless to say, I don’t have a coin anymore.

To deal with my condition, I created a guild that tends to the needs of Tauren who were marked for slaughter, but were rejected or escaped. I am the only Tauren in this guild, so I guess none besides myself have been rejected or have escaped so far.

As for the format of your thread, I don’t conform to the rules.

Thank you for your input! I liked the concept of your guild. Former Chieftain Cairne Bloodhoof would appreciate your services.

It’d be naive for me to ask “what is your objective” with so many alts, because we altholics have a bunch of “checklists” in our minds. So instead I’d ask what is your current focus at this time. just getting to 120 with the classes i want to get to 60 with in SL

. How do you approach leveling with your alts? Do you take the speed runner approach or do you enjoy a more paced experience? I like to be in warmode with the XP pot on but tbh i pace my self my paladin was sitting at 111 for a year while i worked on other characters

Which class/specialization do you play the most, and the least? i play Destro lock the most i try to stay away from my Guardian Druid

. Do you enjoy the in-game music/sounds or you have a specific playlist/band to listen while leveling? i’m Learning Multiple other languages so i like to listen to bands from other Countries i’m currently listening to A Babymetal playlist ( Japanese)

14 I think? Have a hard time remembering the ones I play least.

My alts are almost always based on a personal theme or style. Like Junchi here, is just a simple chef… that likes to tenderize meat with their fists.

I tend to just put up youtube in the background and wander around. Some times I zerg, usually I just take my time.

Deathknight is my favorite class. Frost was my favorite spec until they decided LOLno2H4U. Now my RNG on weapon drops picks my spec for me… yay…
I tend to favor Pandaren so them opening up DK to them made me squee hehe

Least favorite is Worlock. I’ve tried… so many times.

Usually some letsplay on youtube. GameGrumps, Grey Still Plays, Chilled Chaos… things like that.

Someone said “altholics” and I got here as fast as I could.

Horde; 120:
Death Knight - Tauren, Orc, Nightborne
Paladin - Tauren, Zandalari, Blood Elf
Warrior - Tauren, HM Tauren, Mag’har
Hunter - Tauren, HM Tauren, Mag’har, Orc, Troll, Zandalari, Blood Elf, Nightborne, Goblin, Undead, Panda
Shaman - Tauren, HM Tauren
Druid - Tauren, Troll, Zandalari
Monk - Tauren
Rogue - Troll, Goblin
Demon Hunter - Blood Elf
Warlock - Nightborne, Undead
Mage - Panda
Priest - Tauren

Alliance; 120:
Death Knight - Draenei
Paladin - LF Draenei
Warrior - Kul Tiran
Hunter - Void Elf
Shaman - Dwarf
Druid - Worgen
Monk - Mechagnome
Rogue - Gnome
Demon Hunter - Night Elf
Warlock - Dark Iron Dwarf
Mage - Panda
Priest - Human

I have all the heritage armors but one: Vulpera. She’s still level 20.
Other alts to level: 60 HM Tauren DK, 60 Mag’har DK, 20 Vulpera Shaman, 20 HM Tauren Druid

It’s been a mix over the years. My original 10 (which I got to max level in Wrath) was the slog. I didn’t get heirlooms until later.

Some of my alts are from boosts that come with the xpac. Some are from Korrak’s Revenge. Most are from just leveling the traditional way with heirlooms.

Most: BM Hunter
Least: Priest

I enjoy in-game music but sometimes I’ll turn on SiriusXM or a movie.

My lock here is my main and I have I think 10 alts, all 120 with a level 110 Monk that I have to get around to leveling up.

I don’t raid or do M+. I used to raid…but work and personal life takes its toll on time and I just do my thing.

I farm mounts here and there…and do daily quests and a few Horrific Visions (burned out on them as of now). I have the cloak on all but 1 level 120 alt.

Currently just doing pet battles out in the world…collecting. I’m finishing getting Legion pets and will do the BFA ones next.

Polished Pet charms add up when you’re doing world quests for them on 9 alts and table missions on all of them. For some reason my DK never gets any, like they’re not there…the pet charm quests. No idea why.

I retire in 3.5 years…and may get back into raiding. Time will tell…if WoW is still around.

I don’t listen to music whilst playing. I have a few thousands songs on iTunes but that’s for traveling and driving. I do have 2000 movies purchased on VUDU and usually have a movie or Netflix in the background.

I level at my own pace. Usually through questing but I did get 4-5 of my alts to 120 through the Anniversary event.

I just like being a jack of all trades. My main, this lock, is the only one that purposely works for exalted reputations. She’s the first leveled and worked on. Where ever my alts land rep or gear wise…no problem. I don’t stress about it.

All of my alts are on the Thrall Server, Horde side. I don’t play Alliance (played in 2006 and 2007 as Alliance…but that was enough).

I won’t have any more alts…love having everything on one server.

I love my Warlock. I’m Affliction and though its not the best burst…as I don’t raid or do M+ I’m just happy melting things slowly. 450 iLvl is about the max now and she’s there.

I have several alts that are tanks…simply because I find tanking fun, even though I don’t do any extra content other than world quests and such.

Happy Alting everyone!

Heck, I’ll reply to this, why not. I do not know if I would necessarily call myself an “Altholic”, but I do have a good army of alts.

Twelve unique characters split between Moon Guard for all of my Alliance toons, and Wyrmrest Accord for my Horde toons. This character that I am posting on, Zathel, has been my main this whole time, but I plan to play my Rogue instead in SL.

My objective is to finish all Heritage Armor sets that have achievements attached to them. I only need to level my Vulpera to 110 but after experiencing the leveling slog again for my Mechagnome, I am lazy now. My former objective was to have a lv. 120 for each class in the game in order to get the full worth of the $15/Month sub, which is now complete thanks to Allied Races giving me a good diverse roster of alts that I love.

I try to take it slow for 1/20-120. I do try to begin to pick up the pace once I hit lv. 60, and try to speed it up more at lv. 90. I gear up in full heirlooms and do BGs because PvE is incredibly boring and mind numbing in the lower levels, so BGs have a degree of “Fresh” to them in my opinion.

I play all classes, so there’s not one. I always go with the DPS choice, not comfortable playing Tank or Healer. I find certain specs like Demonology more fun than the other choices for Warlock, so I go with that.

I usually play with music and sounds on. If I am in a different mood, I turn the game music off then I fire up Spotify to start playing music that fits my current mood.

Thank you for your input! This is the first time I hear someone learning other languages while playing WoW, really interesting.

  1. total active alts at this moment are: 18 level 120s and 9 allied races leveling up. all of them on the Alexstrasza-Terokkar cluster. 14 Alliance, 13 Horde.

  2. right now just earning as much gold for the level 120s, and leveling up the allied races for their armor appearances. and all of them have storage space for my personal hoarder tendencies.

  3. most alts i level up slowly. mostly thru the cooking/fishing dailies. i have in the past used a power leveling guide for questing.

  4. guardian druid is my most played spec, shadow priest the least.

  5. if doing dailies i have youtube open on the other display, usually binge watching crime documentaries. but usually my ISP throttles bandwidth so i’ll put up some music from my ipod classic thru the speaker input

@Junchi Thank you for your input! It’s nice that you mentioned that your alts suit your personal style or theme. I didn’t even mentioned the role-playing aspect of it, but I’m sure many find joy in it, mainly on RP realms, maybe even on normal ones. My personal “touch” is more related to the character names - they all have some sort of nostalgia meaning for me, mostly derived from other video-games.I also try to get each race the set that makes most sense lore-wise as possible (hence why I love Heritage Sets).

@Tovi Thank you for your input! We might have a winner here, if my math was correct you have almost 50 characters!

@Zessandra Thank you for your input! It’s interesting that you mentioned liking being a Jack of all trades. I can related with that as well. I find, for example, tanking/healing at lower levels much more enjoyable due to it’s casual environment and less competitive than high-end runs.

@Zathel Thank you for your input! Some people find the term altholic negative somehow, but I don’t see it from that perspective. It’s just one more method to have endless amounts of fun. I agree with you, grinding the Heritage Sets has been a joy and provide a fresh experience. I was going to wait for the Shadowlands leveling revamp, but why wait right?

@Darthvixen Thank you for your input! I used to use my alts to grind a lot of gold, but I got burned out a little bit. The most I made was 2 million during Legion, with the class hall golds and mobile AH (RIP). Then I spent everything on BFA and started to take a more casual approach to gold grinding.

Hmm how many alts do I have?

I have about 23 or 24 alts. Levels vary between 20 and 120. I have a total of 7 120s, only 3 are “end game ready” so to speak. I’ve hit a bit of a burn out on wow so I havent logged in recently. But once I jump back in I’ll be leveling a smexy draenei huntress who specializes in insects.

Altoholics…that’s a me!!

I’ve been playing since BC and I would never been content only playing one or two characters. I have a lot of alts because I like a lot of the races and most of the classes, so it makes sense. I also kind of RP in my brain while playing, so each character is on their own little adventures.

2 servers, one for ally, one for horde, each one has a main, this guy for ally and a belf DH for horde. I complete the storylines, achievs and a lot of mount/transmog runs with these guys. I do rep grinding with them as well.

After this guy on the ally server, I have a 120 dwarf warrior, 120 worgen rogue, 120 human mage, 120 LFD paladin, 120 draenei hunter, 111 KT monk, 111 nelf DH, 112 nelf DK, 73 mechagnome and a sprinkling of other characters under them.

After my belf DH I have a 120 belf rogue, 120 mag’har hunter, a 112 undead DK, 84 undead warlock and a plethora of mid to low range characters under them.

Aside from my mains I spend my current time leveling my mechagnome hunter and undead warlock.

I love hunters for all of the pets you can tame, each of my many many hunters using theme for their tames like undead or rotting pets for my undead, fire for my DiD, mech for my mechagnome etc etc. I probably have the most hunters.
I have one druid, and he’s a level 21, I find the low level druids kind of boring, so I may boost one at some point.

I have random dumb low level alts I’ll eventually discard, but once I get a character up to the 60-70 range, I never delete, ever.
Yay alts!!

Stands up; “Hello! I am an Altoholic. I have been and Altoholic since WOTLK when I first started playing… nice to meet you all!”

. How many alts do you have at the moment and how wide are they spread (i.e. across how many servers, factions, etc)

Three Servers Horde is Wyrmrest Accord and Moon Guard, and Alliance is Cenarion Circle.

I have no idea how many Alts that I have, one account is almost full, the other one is more then half full, and recently I found my first account and added it to my battlenet, since the transfer, I haven’t activated it yet, but will do so.

That makes 3 WoW accounts of alts, but I lost count of how many, I play all of the alts except for the older newly transferred account. I’ll get to them soon enough.

. It’d be naive for me to ask “what is your objective” with so many alts, because we altholics have a bunch of “checklists” in our minds. So instead I’d ask what is your current focus at this time.

My current focus is getting everyone on my main account to the 110’s range in the game before Shadowlands comes out. I am almost finished with one server, and then have two more to go, at which point I will continue this madness with my second account, and them my third.

. How do you approach leveling with your alts? Do you take the speed runner approach or do you enjoy a more paced experience?

At this point, I think I level them pretty quickly, even though I mostly do it through questing in my favourite areas. It takes me about 5-7 days of casual questing to get a single character in the 110’s, at which case I leave them for a few. I have no intention of grinding the end game on all of them.

. Which class/specialisation do you play the most, and the least?

I think that I have more hunters then anything. I like having at least one on each race. (and of the allied races I have unlocked) But even though I like them, I want quick easy characters. My fallback race is Hunter. I like Marksman the best, but do have a few Beastmasters.

I play no Shamans. (hangs head) I keep trying, but I just can’t like the class no matter how hard I try, I have at least of of all the other classes between 110-120, I just can’t do Shaman.

. Do you enjoy the in-game music/sounds or you have a specific playlist/band to listen while leveling?

I like the real sounds, so I leave the Ambience on with the birds chirping, and the water running, and the feet moving. I don’t keep the music on because I like it to feel as real as possible and I don’t hear music while walking around in real life, also sound track bug me after awhile, no matter how nice the song. I also turned off person pets, because some of them are annoyingly noisy.

@Felsavior Thank you for your input! A Huntress Draenei specialized in insects sounds unique…will you be focusing on collecting a certain breed of combat/normal pets?

@Shazin Thank you for your input! Interesting that you mentioned “RPing in my brain”. I try also to immerse myself as much as I can when playing. After all, all RL problems are vanished once you enter Azeroth, or at least most of them.

@Malochai Thank you for your input! Wow, three accounts! That’s a lot to keep track of. I liked that you mentioned about ambience sound. Recently I’ve set up some macros that mute music, lower sound FX and max out ambient sounds only, it has been a very immersive experience. Particularly on dense forest maps.

. How many alts do you have at the moment and how wide are they spread (i.e. across how many servers, factions, etc)
I have 45 characters and cycle through playing them all. They’re spread across three servers and are of both factions.

It’d be naive for me to ask “what is your objective” with so many alts, because we altholics have a bunch of “checklists” in our minds. So instead I’d ask what is your current focus at this time. ***I don’t really have an overall objective other than to play what interests me at the time. So having characters of all levels spread throughout the world gives me a lot of options. Sometimes I miss wrath so I run through dungeons or level there with whatever class I have. Sometimes I just want to play a particular race/class combo. It swings with my mood.

. How do you approach leveling with your alts? Do you take the speed runner approach or do you enjoy a more paced experience? * I take my time and get lost in the world. I try to take different paths and having level scaling has helped with this so much. I have so many more options and can circle around to areas I haven’t been to in a while.*

Which class/specialization do you play the most, and the least? I play shaman the most; usually enhancement. I have loved them since vanilla and even with the loss of totem management and some nerfs, I still love them. Least would be Paladin. I don’t dislike them, but just don’t find myself in the mood to play them much. I think I have one that’s parked in Legion.

. Do you enjoy the in-game music/sounds or you have a specific playlist/band to listen while leveling? I like the in-game sounds, but don’t ever listen to the music. We almost always have the local classic rock station playing on the radio in our house. Right now my daughter is belting out “Iron Man” by Black Sabbath along with the radio. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ultimately, I don’t think End Game is The Game. I consider leveling and older areas to be part of the overall experience, even if they’re not as active or relevant as they were when live. Don’t get me wrong End Game is great too (well, not so much for me at the moment), but I don’t want to limit myself to that.

Thank you for your input, Aoxomoxoa! I agree with you. I really wish that someday the developers focus more on making leveling more relevant rather than just “locking” so much stuff at the endgame cycles (patches). And that would include more open world content and less instanced things. A man (and his alts) can dream…

I love reading these alts stories. Keep them coming folks!

I am predominantly a role-player across both Wyrmrest Accord & Moon Guard. I have many alts so that I can enjoy different perspectives and stories, such as a Goblin Mercenary Sharpshooter, or a Gnome Mage who is a Purveyor of Portals!

I play both factions, with a preference for the Alliance over the Horde for my main and end-game content, though I do maintain a dedicated Hordling who runs the story line too so I can witness both sides.

I recently levelled a Void Elf (Shadow) Priest up to max level and I’ve been really enjoying the H.P. Lovecraft vibes of the lore and customization options. Plus that heritage armour is amazing.

I’ll be working on a Highmountain Tauren for their armour too, though not one hundred percent sure on class just yet. Too bad they don’t have access to Paladin, I love Sunwalker lore.

There is a Mechagnome in progress who is questing for her armour as well. I adore all the unique animations and customization options, plus I had to learn how to be much more creative with my transmogs.

Oh, and the new Forsaken Death Knight I started a week ago! He gets some play time now and then. Not terribly big into the lore, though with Sylvanas deposed I’m more keen to progress than I ever had been in the past.

And… well, I have a lot of Alts. I’ll leave it here for now though.

Altoholic here, and proud of it.

I have forty characters on two accounts, covering six servers.
(I also have 3 characters on Classic, but I don’t really play those.)

Lately, I lost my will to play retail when I realized there was no way I could earn the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur with the hour or so I have free to play each day. I come post on the forums for a few minutes each day, but I lost my trust lvl 3 a bit ago.

My alts are begging me to take them out and play, but putting in extra practice on my instruments makes me happier these days. Maybe I’ll get back into WoW sometime. :woman_shrugging:

Currently I only have 99 alts (spread over ~2 dozen realms,) because I deleted one to make room for another Vulpera. I wish we could have a “return to campsite” ability on an Alliance race as well. Usually I’m focused on one or two to level fast, do some leveling on a bunch of others each week, and do daily pet battles on my many pet-battle campers.

I only played a mage for years, then made a hunter to see what they were like.

I did recruit-a-friend a few times with a friend, so got more accounts.

Pet battles were introduced, so I made 11 new monks just for leveling pets by camping the Pandaren pet battles.

I learned you could play in 3rd person, thus seeing your own character, and suddenly woke up to the beauties of transmog. So I made new characters wherever I could find mogs I wanted cheapest, and had to level them to equip the mogs. Now all my toons have their own personalised outfits to match their back stories.

Whenever friends or family made new toons I’d make a new one to level with them.

When Draenor began my realm was down for 3 days, so I went horde for a change, making one of each Horde race on a new realm.

Class specific stuff called for making a Draenei for the flip-flops - okay. you can get them on any alliance race, but it’s more fun to do the Draenei starting area on a Draenei - a gnome warrior for the two-handed blue light saber, and a gnome huntress for the mechanical hunter pets.
Legion class halls meant one needed a character of each race to enjoy the different stories and collect all the mounts.

Being what some would call a hoarder, (though I dispose of far more than I hold on to,) I’ve needed a heap of personal guild banks to store things. On my original realm I have nine. - A separate guild bank for each armor type, one for weapons, two for battle pets, one for consumables and current mats and one for past mats.
Of course each of these guild banks - and I have many more on other realms - need their own dedicated guildmaster.

Blizzard introduced allied races, and you can’t be a proper altoholic without leveling a character of every race.

The Glazer finally dropped for me, so I had to make a Winnie the Pooh Pandaren to wield it on a realm where I needed a rogue for my sackfuls of lockboxes.

Most recently my favourite singer died, so I had to make a look-alike monk with the name he’d used as a monk, in his honour. He takes care of A Bunch of Lonesome Heroes.
