As you’re well aware, there has been backlash about the way T3 items are being handled. I will agree that the system isn’t perfect, but here’s the thing:
Offering a way to get something outside of the BMAH is a very, very good thing and it’s refreshing to see that was done. Even if obtaining T3 outside of the BMAH is experiencing growing pains at the moment, the fact that any alternate path was offered is a huge step in the right direction.
Please don’t let the T3 situation discourage you from offering alternate paths to obtaining more items outside of the BMAH. Nothing is ever perfect, lessons can be learned, and people will be upset no matter what, but I myself am heavily looking forward towards more alternate paths to obtaining BMAH items outside of the BMAH.
I think you misunderstood why they did T3 the way they did man.
They’re a company, and a publicly traded company at that.
That means it’s they’re duty to make money at any and every presentable opportunity they perceive will net them a return on investment.
This is done to appease the shareholders, who prop the company up and allow for the top stakeholders to rake in those sweet stock option bonuses each year.
This means that if they wanted to give players tier 3, old naxx or corrupted ashbringer, they would have kept that entrance stone after the unlock right where it was and let you walk straight in there to do your 'thang.
But there’s no money in that for them.
There is in ruthless RNG and gold sinks though.
I know I’m just being irrationally vicious with this next comment though, but I’m sure they just gave us wotlk naxx vs OG naxx to explore for no other reason than to mock us.
Probably not, but also extremely likely given their priorities.
My interpretation of why they did T3 the way they did has no bearing on the subject.
There is already a separate thread discussing grievances with T3’s acquisition process. This thread isn’t for that. This thread is to make it clear to Blizzard that creating more ways to acquire BMAH items without having to sweat it out on the BMAH is a very good thing.
I would much rather they understood that, rather than reading criticism about T3 and throwing their hands up saying “we hear you, no more paths to obtaining items outside of BMAH.” That would be awful.
What they did with T3 is not an alternative to BMAH, it’s the same BMAH 2.0 but masked, RNG on the lamented pieces that competes with the RNG of finding that piece in BMAH, exaggerated gold sink that often competes with the price of BMAH, there is nothing that guarantees you to get that piece as some have argued, guaranteed means you go and buy it without having to go through other previous blockers, having RNG on the lamented pieces takes away all meaning from guaranteed.
It is though. You don’t use the BMAH to do it. In fact, you can purchase Lamented pieces from others and get a 100% deterministic approach if you wish.
So the solution you see is to spend more gold, causing it, again, to be the same as BMAH, this “alternative” only exists for millionaires to spend gold or to buy wow tokens, if this is what awaits the rest of the BMAH items then they better stay in BMAH, when you make an alternative to, in theory, help make it more accessible you have to take into account that it can be something reasonably obtainable for the majority of the player base, something in what this BMAH 2.0 method has failed miserably.
What they’ve done with T3 shouldn’t be the way to go and there’s still a lot to improve, to say it’s okay to bring BMAH stuff behind RNG blockers and gold sink as an ‘‘alternative’’ is bad and lousy form.
Blizzard gave an alternate path to acquiring T3. Is it perfect? No. Is it a good thing they gave us a different path? Absolutely, and they should provide more paths for other removed items.
Best way ta handle all dis BMAH, Naxx, Trading Post stuff? Just be ignorin’ it and be goin’ about your business. Blizzard gonna do what Blizzard gonna do. I do what I want and be fine with it.
Problem is there is always some person with unlimited funds who outbids me on anything I want. Yesterday it was Hellfire Infernal, BMAH just gives people with money the opportunity to buy everything.
Maybe I can get stuff once all the wealthy people already have it.
This is a valid viewpoint. Also, you have to be on at very specific times to have a shot at winning an item. For example, if you’re going for the Bruto, you need to be up late at night at 230AM EST every single day until it pops, and hope you’re the first to gold cap it. On items that don’t go for gold cap, you still need to be up late at night to fend off the snipers. The BMAH is in a really bad state at the moment.
On my dead server auctions end at around 8pm, but even here a tabard of frost was at 2 mil and time left was “long”
Its so dead here Huolon just flys around timeless isle cause people rarely camp him, after tuesday patch sha of anger is just standing there, waiting to be killed. Is BMAH shared among different realms? That would explain it.
Valid options for me: Getting lucky on tier3 for less than 100K on BMAH > running 3 alts through naxx and sending the currency to my warrior and hope RNGesus is on my side.
What will never be an option for me: Buying lamented gear from the auction house.
I don’t doubt you. RP realms are a great way to farm rares and I do that extensively for legacy zones.
It’s only shared with connected realms. Each realm or connected realm group has their own BMAH. What you are seeing is others who transferred a character to your realm with gold.
I do the same thing (I haven’t done it on ED though) to shop for T3 pieces if I’m in the mood, although I do recognize how that is unfair to those who are native to the realm.
I ended up there cause I didn’t do my homework and believed that “full” meant a high pop realm, turned out it was even worse then Skywall, the realm I left. I plan to pay for one more transfer, this time to a realm with plenty of people.
I see the name tichondrius every time I enter a BG so I leveled a toon to 40 there, it seems ok, might go there, unless I find something better…
I think it’s because the alternate to the BMAH costs like 10 times more than the actual BMAH… so if pricing was an issue before, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be now.
