So I went to Altered-Time forums cause someone here said it was better than Icy veins but all I could see are some old posts, like a year or more. I am not sure if the site has gone cold (No pun intended) or are they just doing everything now through discord.
Anyone have any links there that I just couldn’t find ? trying to get a handle on the NoIL build .
thank you
Happy casting…
I’ve heard that they switched over to a discord server for most of the discussions
Go to this website, sign into discord, and click join server

Honestly no idea how good the info is compared to icy-veins.
Everything they come up with theorycrafting in discord they post on the forums. Icy veins and wowhead are both reputable sources of guides. All good info and good guides written by experienced spell slingers!
The discord mage channel has taken over from altered time the website, but there’s a big downside: gl finding what you’re looking for unless it happens to be the topic of the hour. mage discord desperately needs organization. need something like : frost fire and arcane categories, under those are things like : rotation, talents, stat values, theorycrafting, tips and tricks, and pvp or something like that. hell even the pvp one can be all 3 combined cause its more about pvp than the spec. atm its… a mess, but its capable of being so much better

The guides are linked in #welcome-read-first.
We don’t need spec channels

Frankly, we don’t need anything so I find that to be a pretty poor excuse. Go visit some of the other class discords to see that you can, in fact, be more organized than the mage discord.
If you visit Altered Time, they have sub forums for each spec because they recognized that it was good to compartmentalize that information. Icy-veins has specific sections for each spec. It’s an accepted and logical way to organize the information and it’s very confusing as to why the discord channel has not done so as well.

so much so that important information can be next to impossible to find. sure there’s a welcome read first channel, but that doesn’t do much. forums are so much better for organizing information imo because rather than a stream of consciousness, (although one can certainly find that in forums too), you can at least see a topic and anything inside is likely to at least relate to the topic you are interested in.
There’s no need because most Mages play all 3 specs and the majority of the questions that get answered can be applied as general Mage knowledge; it’s also a superior setup to passively educate people on how to play all of the specs at the same time without segregating the community on a spec by spec basis.

I don’t believe that most mages play all three specs. Especially if it’s merely an alt. Understanding the difference between no IL and FO does nothing to help a fire mage with his burst phase. Most questions are not general mage questions but spec specific.
If this setup is so superior, why do the vast majority of other websites and class discords break it down by spec?

Because it works fine for Altered Time’s Discord.
Yes, it works fine. All we’re saying is that it could be improved upon.

So does the American Healthcare/Welfare system, and yet…
Most people of most classes don’t play all their specs. Typically its only the best players, and while I raid mythic and get alot of it done b4 the next tier, I often find myself sticking to a spec. With fire, while interesting, I found i just couldnt get it to be remotely consistent. The number of fireblast charges I was getting during my combustion window varied WILDLY making my ignite vary from a great 80k at the end all the day down to like 30k if i got screwed. Guides and people said this was wrong and its very consistent, but I could never figure out the problem even after getting the order, ( and the gear ) perfect. That, combined with the horrendous gear options from nyalotha for fire would have meant alot of m+ and pvp, things i really dislike. Arcane was alot simpler, but something about that spec just… makes me not want to play. the visuals are so unrewarding and the mana management playstyle reminds me way too much of old WoW in one of its few truly bad ways (oom oom oom oom unless you conserve alot and focus all your dmg into cds). Nevertheless, I digress quite alot here, but if you play all of your classes’ specs well, you’re in a very small and high % that deserves credit for it. When i played warlock from tbc-wod I was desto for all but wotlk of it and that was demon. Some people like myself just find specs that they naturally have an affinity for and others for which they don’t and no matter how much they work at them, they never click. With this in mind, seperating the class stuff still makes sense even if you play them all, because conversations that have combustion info, arcane power use, and No IL tips in the same page tend to meld together into a melting pot of difficult to sort info.

Everything is good except for Noxxic. Stay away from Noxxic!
It is boggling to me how Noxxic is still a thing after all these years. They must honestly try to give out the worst possible advice because there’s no other explanation for why they have gotten it wrong for so long.
I am happy to report I knew better than to trust Noxxic for advice on anything. Shocked they are still around.
