Alterac Valley

I have been in the process of trying to get a large cluster of old achievements I never worked on before and in the process I’ve reached the point where I need only one more achievement to get my Chef title. Unfortunately, that means I have to do the Dinner Impossible achievement and in trying to do that, I have encountered one hell of an issue.

For those that don’t know, Dinner Impossible requires that you set up a Great Feast in Alterac, Arathi, Warsong and Eye of the Storm. The problem I’m running into, with what seems like a relatively simple achievement is I cannot get into Alterac Valley. The battleground simply does not appear for lower level (and even now at 105) players. After spending 5 hours in a selective que trying to get in, I finally threw my hands up and took to the forums, google and trade to see what is going on with that particular battleground.

After some digging and some noob comments in trade chat, I was finally told that the battleground is so hated by nearly everyone in the community that it’s been blacklisted by both horde and alliance players. So getting the 40/40 players together in order to get into it is the real impossible task. I used to really like Alterac…not so much the people gathering outside the main boss room and then refusing to go in until there was a tank when there was plenty of people able and willing but…I liked the layout and the odds were better…in my opinion, than you know…Alliance winning Warsong…

I opened up a ticket to see if there was anything that I could do or anything that maybe the GM could do and was told my best bet was to post here and see if we could get the attention this needs. So…I wonder…what is so hated about Alterac? Is it outdated? Should the layout be altered? Is there something predominantly awful about it? Why don’t people want to go there and why are you blacklisting it, thus making it unlikely anyone else will ever see it?

A lot of PvPers hate it because there’s a lot of PvE to it, especially if both teams zerg.

A lot of the Horde hate it because nine times out of ten if both teams zerg the Alliance will win. Given that doing it properly (defending choke points, backcapping, etc) takes longer and getting 40 random people to work together in some semblance of a strategy is like herding cats, that was not ideal.

As for the Alliance in particular, I’m not too sure. I remember hearing about there being some way the Horde can hop up the back side of the Alliance base but I’m not sure on the details.

It can be a ton of fun if both teams are actually trying to play it the way it was intended but that’s not often.

AV is a multi-player bot feast,i use to love running it also but after awhile ,after 3 times with multi-players wipes( don’t know why people say their fun )and paid faction runs i stopped doing them.

The problem with lower levels is a lot of the people queuing up are doing so for xp. I think you probably would get more from AV, but not enough to make up for the long queue time and how much longer the battle lasts.

I hear at max level people do queue.

Just keep leveling if you can. At 120 it’s less than 10 minute wait for both sides usually.

Yep, it’s pretty easy to exploit in several ways. It was pretty trivial to get in the base through the front even without a back way in, now the defenses are pretty much just a speed bump. Not like the horde base where you have to run a gauntlet, aggroing NPCs like crazy and taking a lot of tower damage before you get get near the GY.

Wait until you hit 120 then queue up for it. People do play it at max but not so much at lower levels as it is not very good at all for getting experience.

Not even remotely true.

I used to love AV, it was one of the only battleground we won more than 50% on as alliance. That and Isle of Conquest seemed to be the ticket for farming Honor for the gear back int he day.

BGs can no longer be blacklisted. I queued specifically for AV all through the 100-120 range while leveling a rogue during Winter’s Veil, specifically because I love messing Horde up with the knockback snowballs. The queues were long, but bearable, in the 30-40 min range.

BGs can no longer be blacklisted.

if you want to play AV queue for epic bgs, you have a 50% chance of getting AV.

I don’t know how to do it but there is definitely some short cut you can take to get up the alliance base. I noticed it yesterday when I was in AV. I was at the front of the pack and I reached the Alliances second graveyard, I opened my map real quick and there was one guy who was already in their last bunker. He definitely didn’t pass me and even if he did there is no way he could have covered so much ground. No idea how he did it though.

Soon to be 33.333(repeating of course) % chance with Wintergrasp in the works! Can’t wait!

I’d love to know how you managed 30-40 minutes in que…

Thank you for the advice though

I play it often. Maybe I’m lucky, but games are usually evenly matched and fun.
