Alterac Valley MUST take one of its earlier forms. It's up for debate which version was "the best," but it cannot be the version from the end of vanilla with lower health and fewer NPCs. A restored AV is my #1 desire from Classic, so I'll be extremely disappointed if we get a nerfed version.

I don't think it's up for debate. They said in the panel they are not touching the 1.12 data.
100% agree. The vast majority of people on the forums I've visited want the old AV. Also, it should be noted that Blizzard is delaying BGs until stage 2, so they'll have plenty of time to restore AV to its OG state.11/08/2018 02:38 PMPosted by PhrontAlterac Valley MUST take one of its earlier forms. Everything is up for debate until Blizzard says flat out that AV is set to a specific patch.

They also suggested they don't even have the data pre-1.12. They said they were lucky to find 1.12 on the backup, of a backup, of a backup and even then it was buggy as all hell.
If something is worth doing, it is worth doing right. Early AV is such a huge part of vanilla, they should move heaven and earth to replicate it. While 1.12 will be "good enough" for retail players playing for free who do not know any better, those of us that Blizzard wants to bring back to the game via new subs, we know what the better AV is.
They threw a huge bone at current retail subs in the way of free classic, they should make an effort to throw a bone to returning subs.
Yeah, they may have conveniently "lost" the old data, but for goodness sake does nobody on their staff have the capacity to actually code something that existed 14 years ago? Afraid to touch the 1.12 data? Are you freaking kidding me?

While we're at it, please also remove the high level herbs, fish, and mining nodes so people who come to av actually f'ing play AV instead of having a dozen people on each side afk and farm resources. Replace them with an AV resource to buff your faction.
AV is an instance separate from Azeroth proper. Who knows at this time how many backups they may have found.
That said - how was AV version not a question for the dev team at BlizzCon?

That is a good point. Instance code of BGs could be a completely separate thing. If not blizzard, SOMEONE has to have the code somewhere.
They were going to ask about AV, but apparently the idiot who asked about transmog in classic didn't get the memo. Made me think of when Ralphie finally got to sit on Santa's lap and his mind went blank. HOW ABOUT A NICE FOOTBALL, YES?

How dare you try and change my Vanilla! Farming the fish in AV for the AQ opening event was a favorite past time of mine.

AV was as close to open world non-instanced PVP that you could get...in an instanced BG. What would be the logic of removing things that you could do in the open world?
yeah this should have been brought up at blizzcon along with crbgs. i think they still have the original code, but its not compatible with the modern client.
a blue made a fairly detailed post about the technical side of AV at some point, i think it was mop.

11/08/2018 02:50 PMPosted by DonataliusI'll quote the blizz fanbois who jump into every thread talking about 1.12.
"they alred said they arnt changing 112 data. go whine somwere else"
Almost immediately followed by "Sharding is fine it won't ruin the vanilla experience."

Early AV or nothing. Seriously.
If "late" AV launches, it'll be a joke, may as well leave it out of the game. You want authentic, give us true AV.

Old school AV on modern machines is going to be f****** epic. Make it happen Blizzard.

I'm not sure what "early AV" is, as nobody that talks about it actually gives any information on it.
I know modern day AV with reinforcements.
I remember AV from TBC which lasted until a leader died.
What is the differences between TBC AV and early AV?

The differences...
-No reinforcements.
-More guards.
-Guards/sentinels had higher damage and health.
-There were also farming quests in your city where you could gather resources for a group of NPC's to charge into battle.
-You could gather badges from your fallin enemies and turn them into to eventually summon a god on the battlefield(It took at lot). Essentially summon a raid boss in the center of the map that fights on your side until he dies.
Think sort of the same concept as war fronts.... but a lighter pvp version.

I hated avoiding so much. On the realm I played in classic it wasn't uncommon for av to end because there were not enough horde players signing up to replace those who left, ending up with 40 v 30 and declining.
So much so that I was exalted with wsg long before av.
