Alterac Valley in Classic

Ivus is in 1.12

The summons are still in. It’s just not going to happen though, since 1.12 is just a zerg.

Isn’t it amazing how we are now essentially getting the same experience in Classic AV as we have in retail? Two raid teams of 40 zooming past each other and racing against a PvE boss.

Blizzard actually thinks this is good BG design. I’m in awe.

How lucky I am then to have played 1.5 AV on Private Servers!

I think people need to remember - You are going to have plenty of other things to get frustrated about in Classic PvP. I remember playing as my mage in Naxx Tier 3 gear in BG’s and being able to 1 and 2 shot undergeared people. You won’t care so much about the AV patch when you’re sitting in the graveyard waiting to spawn.

That being said, I think the best reply to these AV posts boil down to: If you’re not happy with what’s being put out, odds are you weren’t going to be happy playing Blizzard’s Classic servers for long anyway. If a few changes to something make or break your experience, you’re not going to enjoy yourself. And that’s not a bad thing, you aren’t a bad person and Blizz isn’t trash, it’s just something not meant for you.

There are going to be a TON of “Ahh, I didn’t know you had to do X the slow way again” and “I forgot about this lousy mechanic” moments that can bother you. You either go with it and have fun or go back to Retail BFA.

Incredibly disappointing news. Who even wants this version of AV? What’s the point? Old AV where battles could last for an entire weekend was what made the battleground so memorable in the first place. I know we can’t always get what we want and some decisions Blizzard makes will have to disappoint some of us, but this is definitely among the worst ones they could have done. I sincerely hope Blizzard reconsiders this before release.

Ivus is in 8.1.5. AVs just don’t ever last long enough to summon him and nobody knows how anymore.

I imagine the ability to buff creatures behind the scenes will be a possibility so if they do end up being pushovers, then Blizzard could buff them. Similarly balance changes like Balinda being immune to interrupts can only be a good thing.

The ability for day long games will still exist if players want them to. You just have to cap the one graveyard to make it happen.

Context is important there. Someone could say they enjoy AV more, but can’t afford to pass up the honor gained from grinding AB/WSG for rank. So of course those were more “popular”.

I’m fine with this. I never expected it to be otherwise.

Thank you for classic Alterac Valley. It may not be the version others want but it is classic AV. No reinforcements, hand ins and faction npcs are all welcome news. Even in this version of AV, I had day long games back in vanilla.

This is disappointing for someone who played before the changes

You can still do those things in 1.12

There really never was much chance we would get anything other than 1.12 AV. I was just holding out hope the devs would go the extra mile and give us something truly unique and different.

No apparently you didn’t. Everything was a zerg and everything was terrible if this place is to be believed.

I hope you guys come around like you did on the content release phases. This is a HUGE missed opportunity IMO. This will be a Pve run by zerg fest like current AV is. Your current version of AV is terrible. Don’t double down on it.

Opinions aside, I’m glad that this post has been made. It’s very cool to see these details coming out, especially for the hot-button issues.

As many have pointed out, this isn’t surprising. It’s consistent with the “based on 1.12” approach used for the rest of the game. Nothing about this comes as a shock.

Personally, I would have preferred a recreation of an earlier version of AV, even if that version is (from the designers’ perspective) jankier or worse. Old AV is something of a legend, because of its perks and its flaws. That reputation is not necessarily based solely on the quality of the experience, but the kind of experience it was. I can’t help but feel that late-vanilla changes shied away from that experience, even if the newer version was considered strictly “better”.

For that reason alone, my preference is for the version that is most emblematic of AV’s notoriety to be the one that is brought forward for Classic. I can’t speak for anyone else, but that’s what I’d like to see.

On that note, the community discussions over the next few days and weeks are going to be interesting. I look forward to seeing how people feel about this.

Figured you’d be too busy jumping the fence to bypass most of the horde base.

we are basically getting retail av with this version of AV.

This is false.
by this point the npcs are so weak that players will just ignore each other and go right for the enemies last graveyard. The game will come down to waiting for towers to fall so lieutenants to despawn then seeing who can kill the final boss faster. Armor turn ins wont be a variable in games.
