Alterac RP

Anyone out there? I’ve been looking for Alterac RP since I capped my mage and have had trouble finding any. That’s not to say I haven’t found any but what I have found has had some kind of troubling themes to it. I’m talking armbands and phonetically typed German accents. Yikes.

If enough people are interested, maybe we could make an in game community or something?

EDIT: I’m talking about Alteraci characters primarily, not RP located in Alterac.

Do you mean RP set in Alterac? RP specifically about Alterac, such as attempts to reclaim/rebuild it? RP of any kind between characters who are Alteraci or of Alteraci descent? A combination of the above?

Unfortunately, I don’t play him very often, but my human paladin was born in Alterac and spent his early childhood there.

Any kind of RP concerning characters that are Alteraci/of Alteraci descent! Maybe even combinations of all of the above but I’ll be honest and say any reclamation/rebuilding stuff makes me leery just because the location is an absolute lore mess. I’m not closed to it but I haven’t seen it done in a way before that I’ve ever been interested in.

Yikes indeed D:

I actually always pictured Alterac as the Swiss, for some reason. Small, kinda mountainous Kingdom that works a little with both sides in wars, and gets much of its income from trade. xD

Alterac’s a neat little Kingdom though. When you’re asking about Alterac RP are you asking about Alterac the place, or Alteracian characters?

Characters!

As for what IRL country equivalency to draw inspo from- I’m always fascinated to see what people associate it with! For me, I always liked eastern European countries in general.

That’s what I kinda love about WoW Kingdoms, to be honest. They tend to draw inspiration from a number of places, and it’s impossible to pin them down. There was a thread about a week ago suggesting Lordaeron was germany, and it’s like… there’s SOME German elements but it’s nowhere near as simple as that. I dunno, I’m glad they’re not direct copy/pastes

Good luck finding Alteracian characters. I used to RP an Alterac rogue as an RP alt, but I kinda deleted him back in Legion D: I hope something starts up though!

The lack of world building on Blizzard’s part is both a blessing and a curse to the RP community. No one is technically right and everyone wants to argue about it!

wait is this a thing?

I mean, I get phonetically typed German accents, but…

It is, yeah.

There are some rather foul movements that see the European aesthetic of humans and the vagueness of some of the other kingdoms’ lore and decide that’s enough to insert particularly grotesque ideologies into.

They’ve been around for awhile, moving from race to race, faction to faction, any time they get found out by the population at large (there was a weird moment in WrA’s history where Trolls were their hangout). But they’re always worth challenging and pushing back against.

This, basically. WrA and MG have been plagued by questionably themed human kingdom guilds. Last year I remember it was a particularly huge problem. It made me too hesitant to reach out in look for RP connections. I was hoping that with the gross fad more or less gone I could try poking around again.

I hope you find a guild. Even the mere existence of people who refute that ideology, vocally and plainly, is a good deed.

Versca is of Alterac orgins but she’s dead??? RIP :skull:

I don’t play her with a German accent because I find it insufferable. It’s actually why I tend to not make much mention of her being from Alterac because I don’t want someone to be like why don’t you RP in an incomprehensible bad accent?

RPing in an incomprehensibly bad accent is a time-honored tradition, I’ll have you know.

Just ask the Draenei. Or the Trolls. Or the Dwarves. Or the Gilneans. Or the Goblins. Or the other Dwarves. Or the other Trolls. Or the one weird time I met a Forsaken who had a French accent that didn’t quite make sense, but he was pretty fun, so I didn’t mind.

I honestly don’t know where the caricature bad German accent idea came from it just… randomly pops up sometimes and leaves me boggled.

I like my Alteraci characters keeping their origins on the DL just because it’s the Traitor Nation and they have a bad reputation. I always get excited when people RP their humans remembering the Second War or remembering what their parents told them and being aggro or just politely put off by the idea of Alterac and its people.

I had a lot of fun last night RPing with a guy from Strom who had very Clear Stromgarde Opinions about that nasty mountain place.

There’s a certain dopamine rush that comes from accents, I think. It feels more immersive and makes a fun little layer to throw upon your character like a quilt on a couch.

But if all there’s going to be under the quilt is a rancid old thing festering with raccoons, the quilt can’t help much.

Yeah agreed. I use accents a LITTLE bit for races like dwarves and trolls, where every member of that race uses that accent. I see no need to do it with humans, when there’s little to no evidence of such accents.

For example, a couple of Scarlet Monastery bosses have a German accent. No other Lordaeronians, living or dead, appear to use this accent. So no way does Sarestha, as an ex-Scarlet-Lordaeronian, have an accent. I see legit no reason to do so.

Yeah, the Monastery bosses are also super inconsistent. Korloff has a Russian accent, and Lindon has a semi-English accent, so even using that as a reference is questionable.

Korloff seems harder to legitimize since he’s just a pop culture reference to Rocky.

They were fond of Ravenholdt Manor for a time, as well. Luckily, a sizable portion of their group thought they enjoyed PvP. My garbage 5 man guild spent the better portion of a week making the manor quite inhospitable for them because, yeah, it’s all fun and games until the “libtards” turn on the Arena Master and Khan titles.

A couple of years ago I met someone that assumed Kul Tirans were French… and he used a WAY over the top accent for it. It was amazing.

Guess that didn’t pan out.
