Affected by healing reduction effects, such as dampening.
Pretty big yikes now. I guess we’ll see, but it seems like a pretty easy ability to already purge or dispel.
Hurts fire and Arcane more than frost, if that was their intention.

good mages legit never get purged on alter lmao. ability is so broken im surprised they haven’t nerfed the duration by 60% yet
gonna be hard to find mage sympathy around here +1
they’ll still be rm top-dogging it and a viable wizard cleave choice so
Its very difficult, because almost every mage will cover it with barriers, AI, and any healer/trash buffs.
Im surprised it wasnt reduced to like 4s, but made unpurgeable.
Mages become 2% more killable now.
ITS
SO
OVER
MAGES UNPLAYABLE NOW
Honestly all the mage specs are hard to kill if you kite correctly. Even fire mage isn’t as unplayable as people think they are. I’ve seen some fire mages who know how to kite and position and they stay alive forever and do the biggest dam.
Good.
Dampening was a poor band-aid, but it’s one that’s become a fixture and it has always disproportionately affected healing-based defensives, while classes like mage have been virtually unaffected.
Needed to see changes, one way or the other.
I guess what I am really asking and curious about, is the first part on healing reduction effects. I’m curious if abilities like mortal strike or necrotic strike abilities affect alter time before dampening take effect.
I’m not looking for mage sympathy, just clarity. I understand the arena forums aren’t really friendly to the mage class, which is a little weird, but then again, I’m not a big arena player. I just get my transmog and quit because I enjoy reg bgs much more.
If anyone was to hazard a guess, I’d welcome it. Cheers!
Whats weird? The rightful disgust with the bloated mage/rogue toolkit? alter should’ve had something done to it long ago and even many r1 players including mage comp queuers have commented on it being too broken in this state. see DoritoWWs comment.
TBH Mage needs to be gutted on the defensive front.
Currently they are blinking every stun, sitting in the middle of melee cleaves with zero repercussions, hitting block offensively (especially in Mage/Feral/Healer)…oh and if they are Frost, just spam rooting/snaring you over and over again.
Class kit for sure needs a nerf.
Idk rng is rng. Good has nothing to do with it you could have full hots buffs shield blink away and lock pet will eat it.
You could also get purged 5x and not lose it if your spamming intellect on rip and barrier into mass.
Rng is a fickle mistress. I agree alter feels awful to be on other side of nonstop with no purge though so some change was needed this was prob one of the milder ones they could have done vs outright changing its duration/purgeable status
Nothing pisses me off more than specs burning through their defensives because they arent scared at all and know they can just go go go.
Alter nerf isn’t that bad when you consider poly buffs. Already plenty of tools as mage to live. Mages shouldn’t be able to self sustain the way they can now
You cant just giga nerf a class kit without doing it to everyone.
Mages current kit is a result of the new talent trees and all the mobility and micro cc in the game.
It all needs a nerf.
A 10s purgable rewind is OP yet a ret play can spell warding and bubble and have. 18s of immunity. GL beating a ret as a mage going forward, they already nerfed our shield and block heal 50%, I guess there goal is no one can 2v2 without a healer… Our tier set is 4% dmg boost to one spell, we are OP vs one class….
Here’s how it works, you spellsteal freedom and you kill them from 30+ yards, a few 300k (lul) final verdicts aren’t going to break your shields.
Maybe Hol will break your shield if you let the ret get close enough but you can reapply it though
Now delete Frostbite and Frost will almost be balanced
