When the new changes came out to the UI along with the release of the Dracthyr in November 2022, I and several others who used the Alt keys as a modifier along with other keys like shift or ctrl to very specific abilities began to run into a very annoying bug.
All of these abilities require you to aim first with your mouse and then click, such as Hunter’s Volley or DKs Death and Decay or Dracthyr’s ranged breath abilities.
The problem is the same event and happens so often that I almost refuse to even bother anymore and just click with my mouse (I really like my hotkey layout and stubbornly refuse to change it, ultimately I shouldn’t have to because of something like this).
For circle placing abilities like DK’s Death and Decay or Hunter’s Volley, etc, the bug is very basic. Either when I’m moving or not moving when I use my Alt-1 (Which is where these types of abilities are placed for me on all my characters), instead of giving me the circle to select where to place them, they automatically cast over my character or wherever my character is currently placed.
What’s bizarre to me is that it doesn’t always happen. Sometimes it gives me the circle to select where I want to place the ability just fine like it’s supposed to, but most times just activating the ability doesn’t give me the chance to select anything and just automatically casts it over my character.
For Dracthyr it’s a bit different. Instead of the ability autocasting, I am met with a repeat “Target too close” error that automatically cancels my range selectability for my breath before I can even aim it and click. It does this multiple times in a row and it is frustrating. This ability is also my Alt-1 key for my Dracthyr. I’ve tried using it with other modifiers such as shift-space or crtl-1 but it still happens. Generally it appears to just be modifiers in general.
Before it is asked, yes my mouseover cast option is unchecked and disabled and there is no other settings I have in place for my modifiers. They worked perfectly fine before the UI update and my hope was that it would be fixed. I’ve made 3 separate threads in the past showcasing this bug in various videos, I’ve reported it both in-game and out of game multiple times pretty much immediately when the new UI came out, including further months down the road when I noticed it still going on.
To this day I am shocked that it is still not fixed. I’ve wondered why and looked up to find other articles of people having the same issue and lo and behold it’s because Blizzard is blaming the player. I have started up the game with absolutely no other process on my computer running and all of my addons uninstalled (Not disabled. uninstalled) and it still happens. It never used to happen at all for the years I’ve been playing and using these abilities with these same exact hotkeys up until the UI change came out in November 2022.
Please, this is very annoying and I’m tired of bringing it up again and again and again. It’s been over 16 months, this really demotivates me from even bothering to report bugs if they go on ignored for that long. It’s going to be really hard to convince me that this is my fault or a problem on my end when I’ve uninstalled all of my addons and ended every single other process aside from the Windows essentials with JUST World of Warcraft running and still keep running into the bug.
