Alt gearing is a painful process

  1. You hit level 60
  2. You buy a set of 168 gear at the auction house
  3. You queue up for BGs with other undergeared players
  4. You then proceed to get bodied for a couple days until you get a full set of 184 items
  5. You go grind those boring renown points to unlock the 197 pvp gear upgrades
  6. You find some time in-between this mess to get your legendary item
  7. Once you’re full 197 you get all excited and queue up for rated arena
  8. You get blasted because everyone in there is 215+ and have over 35k hp
  9. You cry

Don’t get me started on PvE gearing

I’m lucky that my guild just drags low ilvl alts through raids/mythics to get them geared, doing it solo is a tedious mess

OP just described my experience since I’ve come back to the game lol.

Minus the buying gear. I crafted my own.

I didn’t know people actually bought that. I put a base lego I knew I’d create in my bags to bump up my max WQ ilevel gear and become able to queue for heroics and LFR.

I dunno…I’ve hit 200-210 ilvl on 4 characters (3 of which were completely new I leveled from 0-60 since SL launch).

If you just play the game, yeah I know totally novel idea, you will hit 200+ ilvl in no time. Is this insanely geared? No, but you can do most content just fine.

Yep pvp gear being very accessible has boosted the gold for carries biz in arenas big time. Hopefully 9.0.5 helps with this.

I hit 1600 some days ago and I’m not the least bit interested in pushing 1800 rn. The amount of glads and boosters I saw killed it for me, and erks me when I know I could win those games if it wasn’t for the ilvl gap. It’s unfair and seriously needs to be looked at.

Yes, nobody in the 1200-1600 brackets has had fun running into 2k+ players nonstop carrying others. I don’t think they should allow paid carries at all in this fashion(especially in competitive arena games) but what do I know.

How did this compare to bfa in your experience?

BFA was even worse, but that was just a terrible xpac all around.

It’s not even just boosters, it’s people that hit 1800-2.4 k cr in RBgs or 3s and end up in my 2s matches. I actually miss pvp scaling rn lol, it’s even harder since I didn’t start seriously pvping till a little bit into shadowlands and a bunch of people were already rival I n some form of rated pvp.

Honestly? It’s the same thing. Pretty good leveling experience, lame experience at cap. And even more bloated with garbage systems than BFA was at the start.

All I cared to do was do the covenant stories - but I’d have to level 4 different characters and grind renown on all of them to do it.

You gotta grind to that 15k honor cap so when you hit 60 you can blow it on PVP gear and upgrades.

But yeah, the arena thing, no avoiding that one lol. Im always getting blasted.

This is where we stopped being similar. I don’t PvP. lol

I just ran Callings, dungeons and got my Renown up in a week to upgrade my gear. And ran the Toghast quests to get my legendary.

Was pretty easy to hit 197.

PvE gearing was easy up to 200. I haven’t tried beyond that.

except honor gear is useless. and 15k barely gets you a 197 weapon and 2 184 trinkets…

Its still better than 164 and those two trinkets are 40% buff to vers. As well as clearing cc. It keeps you from “get bodied for a couple days until you get a full set of 184 items”

Reading is fundamental.

The gearing process is actually pretty quick in the grand scheme of things. I’m on my 4th character to gear up now.

I am, however, not looking forward to the BG farming. It was fun on my first 3 characters, this time I’m just knuckle dragging through it.

What I am really, reeeeeeally not looking forward to is the amount of time I’ll need to put into torghast though to properly gear out my 2 alts who need legendaries. God I hate that place. But I did this to myself :joy:

I actually just made a fresh alt about a week ago. From level 8 (it’s a dk) to raiding Nathria took exactly 5 days. By the week, I am 194 item level, and normal mode raids haven’t been hard to get into as a DPS, surprisingly.

It was kinda fun, slowed down a little today but the experience thus far has been fine.
