Alright, time to go over those whispers, again

Now that the end raid finale cinematic is out, thoughts? I thought it was “meh” at best. I hope that there is a “long” mythic only version of the cinematic, What are the chances of that?

Now to the subject at hand, Not to beat a dead horse over this but can we examine and/or speculate what Li’gynoth’s whispers are suggesting in 8.3?

“Before the last shadow falls, the Father of Sleep shall savor his feast.
The golden one claims a vacant throne. The crown of light will bring only darkness.
When their mistress beckons, nine ravens take flight. Each seeks a prize to earn her favor.
The vassal of life disguises treachery. Beware the eyes of green.
Five lanterns, now darkened. The flame they seek will light the masters’ way.
The blind queen wields a scepter of bone. From the deep she calls forth doom.
The cunning ones kneel before six masters, but serve only one.”

And Can someone explain to me the old whispers from Legion and how they might tie into the new whispers?

“To find him, drown yourself in the Circle of Stars.”
“Five keys to open our way. Five torches light our path.”
“The Lord of Ravens will turn the key.”
“The boy-king serves at the master’s table. Three lies will he offer you.”
“The King of Diamonds has been made a pawn.”
“Flesh is his gift. He is your true creator.”
“At the hour of her third death, she ushers in our coming.”
“Her heart is a crater, and we have filled it.”
“From the earth, he draws strength. Our earth. Our strength.”
“Its surface blazes light, masking shadow below.”

In the end, I feel like there is a lot left out or more could have been done to make this feel like an ending to an expansion that has had profound effects in the lore of the game.

Something’s not quite right with that ending.

Maybe I could be wrong, but I think nothing of this whispers from Legion actually happened.

Agreed. We’ve established that N’Zoth has a habit of throwing lots of plans at the wall and needing only one to stick. Like a Xanatos hydra, you foil one scheme, two more take its place.

Incidentally I looked if tvtropes has such a concept in it and I couldn’t find it, anyone wants to take a crack at looking for or adding it, go for it, but “Xanatos Hydra” seems a very fitting name for the strategy style.

"The King of Diamonds has been made a pawn." - As Azshara states: “Such delicious irony… the diamond king has been made a pawn.”

A pawn of Sylvanas and Azshara specifically.

“To find him, drown yourself in the Circle of Stars.” - N’Zoth has us go to the Circle of Stars where Azshara has us drown(as in submerge ourselves) in Arcane Orbs during the Raid.

"Her heart is a crater and we have filled it" - N’Zoth’s minions make sure to gather a lot of Azerite so that we may fill the Heart of Azeroth.

"From the earth, he draws strength. Our earth. Our strength." - The Faceless One known as the Black Empire draws directly from Ny’alotha’s earth not Azeroth’s.

“Five keys to open our way. Five torches light our path.” - The Heart of Azeroth is one torch according to Xal’atath and one might think that the Helm of Domination is another.

“The Lord of Ravens will turn the key.” - Nine ravens serve a mistress. Sylvanas broke open the veil between reality and the Shadowlands. Sylvanas is the Lord of Ravens.

“The boy-king serves at the master’s table. Three lies will he offer you.” - According to Sylvanas the boy-king Anduin lied to himself and his people about the Horde crumbling due to the Zuldazar Raid. What the first and third lie are is unknown.

Probably the jail or or muzella

Caelia. Sorry forsaken mains who like to play it like a volunteer Scourge, it is written, thou shalt calm the heck down already. Not sure about the crown though.

More Val’kyr. Can we just kill them already?

Probably the nightfae, possibly Malfurion, can’t be Tyrande since she’s light/void/arcane and is not disguising a darn thing.

We used the pillars of creation, but the flame they seek? No idea, might not even be the pillars.

Azshara

Too vague to guess now, probably will be a future thing like circle of stars was.

Literal, name of an underwater zone which acts as N’Zoth’s prison.

See above.

Either Khadgar or Medivh. We ever find out what we did with the sargerite keystone? Khadgar was right there.

Anduin but he already told at least one lie, we have no idea what it was. And is that really singular possessive? Could be a clue.

N’Zoth got magni to free him indirectly

Curse of Flesh, we figured that out already.

Still vague. Sylvanas or Alleria are the most likely.

Jaina most likely, though she’s unusually sane if so.

Wrathion or Magni most likely.

Sunwell is void tainted and Alleria probably didn’t cause it.

“Before the last shadow falls, the Father of Sleep shall savor his feast."

Probably something to do with the Jailer, referencing the souls he is getting.

"The golden one claims a vacant throne. The crown of light will bring only darkness."

Easily a reference to Calia Menethril because blizzard is dead set on making her the new leader of the forsaken regardless of how poorly it fits. Though this implies that might be to set up something bad down the line.

"When their mistress beckons, nine ravens take flight. Each seeks a prize to earn her favor."

Only guess here is the Val’kyr and Sylvanas.

"The vassal of life disguises treachery. Beware the eyes of green."

No ideas on this one that aren’t total crapshoots.

"Five lanterns, now darkened. The flame they seek will light the masters’ way."

Not enough to go on just yet but it may have to do with the pillars of creation being used again in the future.

"The blind queen wields a scepter of bone. From the deep she calls forth doom."

This one is odd. If we take it as Queen Azshara then it isn’t a prophecy, it is just what she already did. On top of that, Xal’atath (the blade itself) is just that, a blade. Not a scepter. On top of THAT, blind is not a motif that goes with Azshara much.

The only other “Queen” I can think of is Sylvanas, but she’s not blind, has not been shown to have a scepter of bone, and is doing stuff in the shadowlands. “The Deep” is traditionally associated with the ocean.

“Doom” is also notable because it feels like the old gods like to phrase what they do as a positive, so why would they call N’zoth (assuming the Azshara interpretation) “Doom”?

"The cunning ones kneel before six masters, but serve only one.”

Ok so this one could be a stretch but I think what best suits this right now is the remaining Sylvanas loyalists.

As we know, the horde is changing from a warchief system to a council system. We don’t know who will actually be on the council yet though. The epilogue cutscene shows 9 people in a circle, but a few of them seem superfluous.

We have Thrall, Baine, Rohkan, Gazlowe, Ji, Lillian, Lor’themar, Thalyssra, and Geya’rah.

Geya’rah and Thalyssra are allied races rather than traditional races, but Thalyssra holds enough importance that she could easily stay.

Ji is a joke at this point and does nothing despite being all about action and can easily be ignored.

Lillian, despite being my pick for the leader of the forsaken, seems keen to try and pass it off to Calia and may not take a role in the council as a result.

So if the number was shaved down by dropping Geya’rah, Ji, and Lillian then we have 6. The sylvanas loyalists still in the horde will bow to them but only truly serve her. They wouldn’t leave those loyalists in the story if they aren’t going to screw something up for us later. This could easily be the prediction of that.

This all becomes null if all 9 leaders are on the council though, and also doesn’t account for Talanji, but neither did the cutscene.

Sidenote: I’m pretty much convinced that they dropped the “Three Lies” plot point because every interpretation of it I have seen is a massive stretch. Anduin has been too good of a boy.

Mueh’zala is the Father of Sleep. The Jailer is mentioned by Blizzard to be someone new so he isn’t Mueh’zala though Mueh’zala is called Night’s Friend and the Jailer resembles a Kyrian and Kyrians are beings altered by Vesper Magic and Vesper means Night.

The Jailer is the God of Night while Mueh’zala AKA the God of Death is his friend and the father of the God of Sleep.

The Arbiter has covered her face and thus is blind.

Now on to N’Zoth’s own Whispers separate from Il’gynoth’s:

  • N’Zoth whispers: Six seats at the high table. Six mouths that hunger. One will consume all others.
  • N’Zoth whispers: She is not the last, but the first. Drown her and you will see.
  • N’Zoth whispers: The veil wanes. His crown will open the way.
  • N’Zoth whispers: I alone can save you from what is to come.
  • N’Zoth whispers: It grows hungrier… bolder. Alas, your eyes are closed.
  • N’Zoth whispers: When the arrow finds its mark, the last fetter will fall away.
  • N’Zoth whispers: The Light has struck a bargain with the enemy of all.
  • N’Zoth whispers: The fall of night reveals her true face. She will bring only ruin.
  • N’Zoth whispers: He gave himself to the deep places. He gave himself to me.

My only problem with Mueh’zala theories is that it feels odd for them to use such an obscure character given the importance being placed on him, especially since they are just a loa. Also, given the similarities between Kimbul and Shirvallah I wouldn’t be surprised if Mueh’zala was considered superfluous and pushed to the side in favor of Bwonsamdi in order to avoid having two loa of death. Similar to how Shirvallah is mostly forgotten to avoid having two tiger loa. Loa are also empowered by their followers, and Mueh’zala is only worshipped by a single tribe. So unless he ISN’T a loa then things don’t feel right. I don’t feel the current blizzard writing team would shift focus between The Jailer and another death entity as the big bads of the expansion.

The shrine in Dazar’alor does have me questioning myself though.

But is she a queen? Does she have a bone scepter? What is “The Deep” in this context?

The Shadowlands What’s Next Panel calls the Jailer just one of the lords of death. Having him command the other 2 Lords of Death( Mueh’zala and his son the God of Sleep) wouldn’t surprise me.

The Depths of the Maw perhaps? The Art makes it look like the Tower of the Damned descends into dark depths(https://gamepedia.cursecdn.com/wowpedia/f/f3/Torghast_concept.jpg?version=58cf20acf883b50270e821e3d203a31c).

On to N’Zoth’s own whispers:

N’Zoth whispers: The fall of night reveals her true face. She will bring only ruin.

I suspect the Jailer’s death will expose the Arbiter’s true face and reveal the truth of Yogg-Saron’s statement in Ulduar: “Look upon the true face of Death and know that your end comes soon!”

Remember the Void deals in half-truths so Yogg-Saron may have been trying to trick us with a prophecy that N’Zoth repeats in better context(in which case he first wants us to cower before his true form before bowing down before the Arbiter then look upon her true face the know our end comes soon).

Golden one? In the cinematic, it appears when we go full on Dragonball Z on N’Zoth that we are the golden one holding the HoA. :man_shrugging: :man_shrugging:

Yeah this has nothing to do with the Aspect of Earth or his son. Nothing at all.
