the lead developer adjusts his helmet in the meeting room and wipes the drool hanging from the edge of his mouth Les make ‘em 2 collllurs! he says as snot hangs from his nose
the poor intern looks confusingly at the lead developer b-but wouldn’t it make more sense to have it as 4 colours? You know? Like, blue, green, red, yellow… each one for a unique crest type?
the lead developer snarks and growls at the new intern No! 2 colors! 1 AND 2!
At this point I don’t even bother trying to keep track of the 50 gazillion currencies we have I just go to a vendor see if it uses something I have and if I can buy something I want with it. I do up grade my gear but I have no idea how the hell the quests work beyond that, lol. We suffer from a major currency bloat I miss the days of emblems of heroism from WOTLK a lot easier to farm and not worry about it.
yea, for the hundredth time, blizz does not believe in a UI/UX position.
That is a wanton salary that is better suited to pay for some board member’s yacht storage.
As someone who tests games for accessibility, it’s pretty garbage design, honestly.
It’s like, sure, people could be expected to read the entire tooltip and remember the long names. But a few small changes would not only make it easier for visually impaired people, it would also just make it more convenient for everyone, and thus less mistakes would happen.
I don’t know why they don’t follow the four tier color scheme we’re used to with gear: Green > Blue > Purple > Orange. Other than maybe changing purple to yellow since blue and purple could get mixed up by those with certain colorblindness.
And, on the note of colorblindness, just having better names in general? What happened to Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary as adjectives? Heck even Bronze, Silver, Gold, etc. would work better than … what, weathered, carved, runed… I don’t even know the names. XD!
I’m actually legally blind, so my brain learned to skim read out of habit. But I don’t like using my disability as a crutch here, because I think lots of people do this naturally as well.
Here’s a fun one for you: I still don’t know what all the herbs and ores are called. XD I know there’s the white/silver icon one with the green name. Iron-something. The blue/blackish one with the Bis something name, and the orange one, Agate? A-something.
If I have to read I will, but there are those of us who prefer the icons to distinguish items by instead of text.
As an example, the world of Minecraft was made so much better when my group started putting frames next to chests with the block that went inside it instead of the signs I had to read. It’s just so much quicker for my brain to process. And again, I don’t think it’s just the vision disability thing - I think a lot of people prefer to mentally organize things this way.
Nah bliz dropped the ball on presenting crests. The icons should be predominantly a single bold colour and they should all be clearly and easily distinguishable, and the names should be evergreen not expansion themed.
I want to also stress to those reading this, I think having 4 currencies instead of 1 is an Enormous improvement and helps make using the upgrade system significantly more intuitive.
Yeah, every time now it’s 50 new stones/crests/blobs/whatever that we get for doing things, that let us do other things, but if we have the wrong things, we can’t do the things we want. Inevitably I will finish an expansion with a bunch of junk I never figured out at all what it was for or what it did.
Hard agree, and then just convert last expansion’s crests into a new currency (used to buy / upgrade old expansion gear) once it’s out of date that looks nothing like the crests. Call them like “Relic Dust.”
You’d have to do this else the DF crests of the the same name could be used to upgrade current gear, etc. But doing this would also simplify all the old currency we have in old expacs as we go, too.
As an aside, I do think people disagreeing with eachother just have different ways their brains prefer to process information. I don’t think anyone’s dumb, or anyone’s being snarky, etc. If people say the current system is easy for them, it probably is.
It’s like, hmm… Ok, if I show someone a red ball and then a blue ball, are they going to be able to process the colors quicker than if I show them the words “Red and Blue.” Some people are very language driven and love spreadsheet style organization. I have a friend like that. But some of us are visual / concept based, and our brain reacts quicker and prefers images or ideas in action over words.
One day psychology will flush this out, and hopefully we can have customizable games (as well as school curriculum, etc.) customized to our specific preferences. Until then … people gonna argue on forums.
