So I am trying to do my 20th anniversary quests and am working on the Assistant to the Assistant… and I have picked up all the darkmoon cards around the zone and the NPC will not give me the secret quest prompt. I have tried to get it on multiple characters as well and it wont pop. All level 80s.

Same here. This bug is attached to the Detective title so im pissed!
For those struggling with this, I thought it was a bug too, but I just unlocked the (Quest) dialogue. It looks like there is a prerequisite questline which isn’t in the comments on wowhead. I checked after completing each quest in the chain and it unlocked after the 2nd chain.
Start with the following quest from Alyx under the paviliion: https://www.wowhead.com/quest=84143/lost-and-busy
This chain includes:
- Lost and busy
- Tat big meanie
- To da ruins!
- Da stick of revealing
- Tweasure hunt
Then when you finish that one, you talk to the father next to Maru to complete the chain that starts with https://www.wowhead.com/quest=84521/thoughtful-pursuits#comments
Which includes:
- Thoughtful pursuits
- A whiff of help
After that, you should be able to get the quest dialogue from Alphonse.

Collected all the cards… tried talking to Alphonse multiple times, reloaded UI, relogged, rezoned, completed all the Maru quests… Alphonse keeps telling me he’s not open for business yet.. and no other dialogue options… Please fix this!
Same, but there are some more information.
Sometimes (I don’t have any idea how/why/when), the NPC shows the first (Quest) option. Once I click on it, the dialog closes.
But most of the time, no (Quest) option is shown. Only the usual stuff people already mention above.
Some rare attempts of trying to talk to the NPC, it showed basically all the (Quest) options as I clicked on them to proceed. But it felt like I had to try this a thousand times.
But at the end, no quest is given.
I have done all other quests, all cards collected… I also tried some other actions before talking to the NPC again, such as: destroy all cards; get only one again; destroy the card; get another one, etc… in the end I collected all them again but still no solution.
What a mess!
I’ve had the same experience with Alyx… she will sometimes have the quest icon show up over her head, but it usually disappears within like 3 seconds. Occasionally when I delete all the cards out and pick just one up and immediately go to Alyx to speak with her, the detective quest will be there along with the darkmoon dialogue option and I can click it, but nothing happens (IE she wont tell me to go to Alphonse)… So here I am stuck…
I’m like 90% sure this is some dumb phasing issue that they just need to make the quest not be associated with a “phase”…
here’s an idea, just turn the quest activation on when you pickup the first card you find… just like 1000s of other quests they have in game that starts when you pickup an item…. IDK what the deal is with Blizz devs sometimes… no need to re-invent the wheel.
Using Leatrix plus automation for quest and gossip. I was somehow able to complete this. Had same issue with accepting Tracking Quest from Alyx that this helped with.
Now after turning in Tracking Quest to Rexar. He disappeared and unable to get the “The Trail’s Gone Cold” quest.

I am having this issue as well!
Ok, after reading a reddit post about this, Logost’s method does work. But you have to hold alt down while clicking Alphonse. Make sure you also continue to hold alt down when the quest dialogue appears, click it and it should push through to get you the quest. This took like 30 minutes to get the quest.

So I can get it to come up after clicking and re clicking several times, however, I cannot get the Quest to actually activate. As soon as I click the Quest option, it closes the conversation.
Yep, it will do that, I probably had to do that 20 or so times before it actually gave the quest, but I did complete it today doing this.

That is the issue though, isn’t it? We should not have to wait until next year for a BUG that was in their game that WE all pay to play in. They absolutely ignored anything around it. I understand that they are busy with Midnight and housing, so let us ignore everything else. They really should have canceled the anniversary with the way they treated all things this year.
