Allow purging mailboxes of characters on locked realms to unblock free transfers

This is a known issue listed on the Character Transfer Information and Restrictions page which for realms where you’re able to log into and clear your mail makes complete sense. However given realms are now offering free character migrations due to lengthy queues, this isn’t a solution as in order to transfer your character off a realm with a long queue you need to wait for the queue.

Possible solutions:

  • Delete all mail :: super easy, people will complain
  • Forward mail :: probably harder (idk I didn’t write the mail system) but more flexible allowing you to forward mail to an alt for later collection
  • Just keep having Customer Support address tickets like this

Would cause issues, you are right. CS deleting all mail is a poor idea.

Not an option without major coding changes to the game.

Posting on the forums is not a ticket. There are no GMs here. They are allowing the Forum Support Agents to clear mail based on player requests. This is not normal.

A better solution, in my opinion, is a self help “clear mail” button people can use. Along with the warnings that you can’t get it back so do you really want to do this!

That gives players the same tool that the Forum Support Agent is using to clear their own mail.

Suggestions though, would go in General chat where the Devs can view them.

This is retail forums none of our servers are locked.

You will probably get more replies or support in the proper forums.

The suggestion to have a player tool to clear mail before transfers is universal for any game version. It would be a benefit to anyone trying to transfer - and it would let them clear mail from ignored people or quest mail that is queued but not delivered. Things that take logging in or a GM to fix.

Self help tools are always good. Customers get faster results and there are fewer tickets in queue so those who still need help can get it faster.

There’s probably a solution that can be made by allowing read-only/withdrawal permissions for mail via the mobile app for both retail and classic. And for classic, have that mail functionality not be contingent upon a queue (since said characters can only read/collect mail, but not send or make auctions). But I highly doubt classic players will be receptive to any extraneous mobile integrations to their game.

However this solution is highly dependent upon the character having space to receive items. If you have no space you have to wait in the queue.

That would require a large code change. Accepting mail, leaving a guild, clearing active auctions, leaving an arena team all require login.

Deleting mail does not. There IS a tool for that that the staff can use from outside the game, as far as I can tell. It does not require a login so is something a player could use from here on the website to delete mail and let a tranfer go through.

It would save them hours of time as a player and the trouble of a ticket.

That is IF Blizzard makes that a self help too. They did with un-stuck, item restore, and char restore though so there is hope they might make that a tool player can use themselves.

Then I think it’s time they should do the change then. Well tbh it’s really past the point since classic won’t have any more major launch hits like they had already. Things will just be seasonal resets, and not even classic cata will hit the same threshold.

Again my solution wouldn’t be a full login, just a one-way transfer of goods to each character provided there is space available. However by doing this service it should remove you from queue or existing logins with the same wow account (same as the mobile app does already). Effectively closer to like a “guest” login. And login on any other device or game client would kick one off the hypothetical “mail check” functionality. Nor would using said service put someone ahead of others for the game client login process (via like a hotswap or w/e).

Wrong forums for this topic.

I see your point for the ignored or queued mails but clearing mail before a transfer is also really less of a retail issue due to us not having queues. Though your other points are well made.

You might be surprised, but it comes up fairly frequently. People want to transfer a char off a license without a sub so they can’t log into clear the “brew of the month” or whatever.

Having a clear mail button is excellent for everyone if they want to transfer NOW without a sub or having to wait in queue.
