Allow M+ keys to be reset

I got a high key this week that is very, very difficult to pug. No one wants to join this group, no one wants to run it. But I finally got a group together, so I ran it, and predictably went over time. Then I got the SAME KEY minus 1 keystone level.

This is not fun. The thought of waiting over an hour for this group to fill, and then almost certainly failing to time it again is actually the opposite of fun.

WHY can’t we downgrade + change keys somewhere? Admit it, the dungeons are not balanced. Some are far more difficult than others in a given week. Are you trying to make my suffering one of your data points?

I’m frustrated enough right now to make a post about it. When I am too burnt out to make this post in the future, you’ll know that you’ve acted too late.

Well posting about this in the customer support forum isn’t going to make your voice heard. They do not have any power to make any changes.

Instead you should post over in Dungeon and raids or in General forums.

cant you do the dungeon yourself then abandon it and keep dropping it?

Yo can already downgrade the key. Start the run solo, zone out, reset instance.

But I still would like to get new keys

In the group of friends I run with, we saw a key downgrade to the exact same dungeon 3 times. It was very deflating to run something unenjoyable (looking at you Shrine) only to have it become another Shrine.

They need to give it some protection against that or let us put our key in the Scrapper, pay some currency (I’d pay Residuum to get away from bad keys), and receive a new key maybe 1 level lower.

Or, they could actually balance the dungeons. You know, like they asked about in that thread a while back that’s now a dim memory.

Interesting how jb was complaining on his stream about not being able to delete keys anymore and Blizzard never fixing unbalanced dungeons. They had alpha, beta and a full season of M+ to make changes. Perhaps if they balanced out the dungeons people would not be worried about somehow getting another key.

Some affixes unfairly affect some dungeons significantly more than others as well. I’m not expecting anything out of this current dev team. I have learned to lower my expectations this expansion to a point where I expect nothing to happen.

No you can’t downgrade & get a different key. You actually have to complete the dungeon to have a chance at a different key. And you can’t delete keystones anymore.

If you get a dead key, you have no choice but to simply run someone else’s key. It is unfortunate but I guess that is what Blizzard’s intention is.

Technically, you could always get that key downgraded so that it’s low enough that people want to run it. I know it defeats the whole point of pushing your own key but I guess that’s Blizz’s way of making you grind more.

This. The issue is that some of the dungeons like KR or Shrine are so much more difficult than others, people end up with dead keys. Allowing us to freely reroll keys isnt a good system, either. Back when we could, people abused the heck out of it.

The re-roll mechanic is to play with other folks and their keys and play key lotto with the Weekly chest.

The other technique is to delete the key, and run a new mythic and get a new keystone. (If you run a +8 with no keystone, what level keystone do you get at the end? +2? +6?)

The mechanic already exists, and its cumbersome and costly, but there’s a reason for that as well.

what was the key? I got to know Cuz I would do about any key with ya if you dont suck

They got rid of this mechanic a few months ago. If you delete your key, you can’t get a new one until the next week. It’s because it was a bandaid for another issue, and people were abusing the heck out of it, myself included.

I got really used to Shrine back in 8.0 when I was spamming the hell out of it for a chance at the trinket (which I replaced like 2 weeks later).

I think people overstate its difficulty tbh. It just requires people actually interrupt on that one boss and a couple specific mobs. Bolstering is the only affix that’s notably annoying there (because of a few specific mobs surrounded by weakling mobs). Explosive used to be an issue for melee groups on the last boss but they nerfed it.

I don’t think there’s anything outright difficult in the dungeon. The problem I’ve seen with it, particularly when you get to the 12 -13 range, is the timer is extremely unforgiving. I’ve done a 15 AD and had two full wipes and still chested it. Can’t do that in Shrine.

Sounds like a classic case of “cure the symptom, but not the disease.”

Problem: Players are trashing keystones for specific dungeons at high levels due to the inability to form groups.
Correct Solution 1: Balance dungeons so that no single dungeon is more painful to run than others at the same keystone level.
Correct Solution 2: Make the harder dungeons only available at exceptionally high keystone levels, the likes of which are traditionally only run by guilds anyway.
Incorrect Solution: Remove the ability to trash keystones, thereby telling the player stuck with a particularly egregious dungeon to go play in traffic.
New Problem: OP’s progress is effectively halted.

TL;DR, players should never want to trash their keystones to begin with. Removing the ability to do so doesn’t resolve a criticism about a core gameplay feature.

This right here hits the nail on the head. Have my like, good sir.

I don’t think so. Shrine is as of currently the most failed key this week according to bestkeystone. Shrine and Kings Rest consistently have the highest failure rate regardless of affixes.

Bursting is pretty annoying there too FWIW.

There’s a few issues with shrine:

  1. The timer is unforgiving as you said. The lack of a save point before the 3rd boss is a big contributor to this, run backs in the most difficult area of the dungeon take a long time.
  2. The large amount of low health mobs there reacts negatively with many affixes that aren’t much of an issue in other dungeons (bolstering, bursting, explosive)
  3. The 2nd boss is a brick wall for a lot of groups
  4. The number of interrupts required mean the dungeon favours a melee heavy comp, whereas most of the good loot on offer is for casters.

By a huge amount too. Bursting is absolutely aids in Shrine. Almost every trash pull will wipe you if not managed. Volatile Blobs, nonelite packs before 2nd boss, skeletons surrounding the caster minibosses and eels are all potential wipes on Bursting. Most dungeons have at most 1 or 2 packs of mobs like this, Shrine has about 12.

Only 11% of runs are making the timer in Shrine this week. The next worst is King’s Rest at 35%.
