It is so painful to watch the group be injured, have a curse on them, or numerous other things that you can help with as a Druid, but are held back SEVERALLY by being in Bear form.
Make all of the spells useable, but cost Rage instead of mana. You would then have to sacrifice Iron Fur (mitigation) or Maul (higher dps) for group utility, adding another element of smart play/usefulness to Druids.
It is astounding how many utilities the other tanks bring to groups by comparison to a Druid Tank. My paladin has literally kept the group healed enough to get through fights while also being the tank, and the healer was dead/dc/dumb/dpsing.
What does bear bring? Oh boy. I hope you like running fast! And if you weren’t walking fast enough, wait until you see how fast you can run! Then when you get tired, guess what? It is time to run fast again! All that and no more with the Bear Tank!
Class balance is in the hole. My main is a druid and I gave up on her… and wow, in general. I miss strong tanking - alas, it’s not in the cards. I seriously think they are out of ideas to make them work, but that’s just assumption on my part.
Druid has been my main for years now. I have been trying out other classes for weeks now. I keep thinking “oh wow, look what this class can do! This dps spec is fun! This tank has that! This healer does this!”
But then I keep missing my druid. I get on it, and realize that Feral has never been as fun as any form of Rogue. Guardian is just a gimped hunter pet. Balance is fun, and Resto feels weird without Healing Touch.
So, then I look at the other classes again.
It is a vicious circle.
That’s how I felt. Gimped unless I play balance, which is nice but not MY thing. I feel like we’re the warlock of this xpac. I still get pissed every time I think about lawyerface saying “don’t play demonology this xpac.” Lawyerface may as well say that about druids this xpac. Mostly worthless.
I think it’s half the reason I just gave up on BFA, minus this xpac sucks. Really fell out of raiding and not really into PeeVeePee. Meh … what am I to do
That would be nice’ish. There were still some glaring issues. WoD was when I had the most fun. Cata had bears with absorbs as mastery, as well. That was ever better. Best iteration - just in my opinion, was MoP.
Can we have those devs back Blizz? The rest of you are fired. I wish I had the power to do that. Well, not fire, just re-allocate employees to other projects and be like “buh bye.”
No. Rage is hard enough to come by without it being further distilled by more needed actions. Plus, they would probably tie it in to the GCD. Making it even worse. No, these need to be cast using mana, just available in form.
Resto and Balance both feel good, but Feral and Guardian are in a rough spot. Especially Guardian. I have a friend who was tanking on it then swapped to a Paladin tank and their comment was “I can’t believe how much easier and nicer tanking is on a Paladin.” Makes me pretty sad because I miss seeing more bears.
Your friends statement is accurate in my amateurish experience. I want to be loyal to my druid to the end because I love the flavor, flexibility, and QoL perks but tanking in bear just feels -bad- compared to paladin or death knight. ):
I don’t mind playing most tanks (though I hate BrM) but I just can’t get Guardian to work this expac. I’ve tried to do Mythic islands as Guardian and find I have better survivability as Balance. Just…that hurts.
Having played druid on and off since classic the thing I hate the most about it today versus at the start is how much time I spend in one singular form. I am a druid. A master of shapeshifting. But I honestly feel more like just a cat or moonkin, etc.
I do too, friend. It feels more like they want you to pick a specific animal clan and stick to that one. I miss when Druids would change their forms often.
