I know that this topic has come around numerous times but perhaps persistence is key. In short, there is no obvious reason to continue with the chore filled requirements to unlock allied races.
To put the allied race issue into focus today, swap Drakthyr in. At the core, Dracthyr and allied races are the same thing - a new race/class combo. What would the uproar look like if Drakthyr were locked behind an entire storyline of an expansion from half a decade ago? As it stands, you can level 1-70 half a dozen times over before you have unlocked even part of the allied races - that is absurd.
It is absolutely understandable to require a long unlock chain for current content. If DF had brought us Highborne Elves and Ogres, there would be no issue with an unlock campaign because it would be current content.
It feels like there is a lack of consistency. All prior attunements have been done away with for old content. Allied Races on the other hand continue to require lots of work where similar features require none. Another example of this is flying. Traditionally flying in old zones has been unlocked for all once the content is two expansion releases removed. BFA is currently two releases removed and flying is still locked. Again, no consistency and it makes Kul Tiran and Zandalari Troll requirements infinitely more time consuming.
It feels long past due to make all the races available to all players from the start. This feature isn’t skill based like challenge mode sets or the original mage tower where exclusivity makes sense. Allied races are a pretty big feature of the game with no reasonable explanation for why we continue to not have access to them out of the box.
It’s not so bad as the rewards are the mounts at the end of the questlines. Even the flying achievement will also have a unique mount.
Shame there’s still no reward for unlocking all races but they’re humoring an allied race in Dragonflight to make up for the lack of classes from Dracthyr.
I too once thought this community would welcome fun things without undercovers yelling “you just want things handed to you”, I couldn’t have been more wrong.
I just unlocked nightborne recently. And i practically did it AFK over the course of a couple days. Just space it out a little bit and its really not that bad. The only change i think they need to do is make it less confusing on knowing where to start and what quests/achievements you need to do certain parts. Without the addon i used i couldn’t figure any of it out on my own.
Since I’m almost done with Tides of Vengeance and about 1/10th the way through with Pathfinder, I say the AR requirements are fine, just give us flying first.
All the allied “races”, aside from vulpera and dracthyr, are nothing more than glorified customization options that could have been achieved via the character creation screen, the barber chair, and in the case of Kul’tirans, a character model slider.
Its not really alot of work, if you where playing it at current content… since it wasent designed for people to comeback like 20 years later and unlock the races, this is what you must go through just like any other legacy content
If this were true, attunements for MC, Onyxia, UBRS, etc would still exist. These are all more legacy than allied races. There are absolutely no prerequisites to go through. When you say “this is what we must go through,” you are conveniently overlooking a LOT of old examples that are exactly the opposite.
Nope doesn’t work. Those attunements were removed because they decided attunements weren’t a thing they liked anymore so they stop doing them and got rid of the ones that existed. They haven’t decided to stop making allied races as far as I’m aware. They haven’t in a while but there’s been no suggestion they’re done with the idea. I do think everyone should get bfa flying at level 50. But as for unlocking the races, they’ve already made it easier by lowering the rep requirements. So just go do it. I did them all. Before they made it easier. Yep all of em even ones I know I won’t ever play. So you can unlock that single one you want to play.
You say they got rid of attunements because it isn’t something they like anymore. You go on to say that they are not done with allied races. They aren’t done with raids either, yet there are no attunements. Why do attunements still exist for allied races since they aren’t done with those either?
All these responses keep circling back to my core issue with it all - inconsistency.
And like I’ve said in other posts, I think completely removing it is a bad idea but cutting down the amount of work is a good implementation. For people who worked hard to get the Allied Races and they suddenly just give them out for free, it will seem like their hard work and hours of playing was wasted, and that would really suck.
Apart from Vulpera all of them should have been customization options. That whole concept was so idiotic.
Look! All those shiny and totally new races.
Yeah… riiiight.
i dont remember doing any “hard work” to unlock allied races. in fact most of us had the main requirements done already by the time they released so it was quite easy
playable races shouldnt be locked behind anything more than a questline to lead them in
