Murlocs. The long awaited arrival.
Mechagnomes definitely set an interested precedent with how… most armor doesn’t show up on them. If gnomes can be torsos who essentially don’t wear leg armor, it makes races like Naga or Centaur seem more possible.
I don’t know what possessed me to look this up.
Remember, you can’t say “arachnophobia” without the “rack”
They only have 2 allied races left and one is a model of worgen and one is of undead orgins. I’m thinking with the new info about the Lich King. San’Layn will be the undead allied race and for worgens, maybe sethrak or saberons.
I demand my spider women to have impressive rachs.
I want Hozen. When the Coin of Many Faces turns you into one, you can see how intricate some of their animations are. So cool. The running is a little wonky though, might be annoying to look at non-stop.
Of course the reason for me is Hozen Rogue’n across Azeroth.
They make cool casters though. And we could have Hozen druids that turn into the gorilla model for tanking. And a, uh, monkey-dog for cat form…yeah…
When Hozen become playable, I shall make a guild called “Azeroth of the Apes” which shall be dedicated to overthrowing the evil non-hozens.
I mean, if they break down some of the faction barriers and I can group with people of the opposite faction that would be like getting a boatload of Allied races.
But if they don’t do that then I’m hoping for High Elves and San’layn.
given how likely it is that the next expac is the shadowlands, because of shamanic communion with the dead and their special relationship to the spirit world shamanic cultures would make the most sense as the allies to focus on
the most obvious, of course, being wildhammer and taunka, although the krokul could work as well
I would resub to play a Mantid bug boy.
Saurok would be great too if they can up their intelligence and make them less aggressive somehow. I like how their “god” is a giant invisible devilsaur in the sky which is probably a loa of some sort.
I would love to see Wildhammer added at some point.
I think Blizzard opened possibilities for core race customization when they added more eye color options for elves. They could easily add some tattoos for Wildhammers to the core dwarf and they then wouldn’t be hard pressed to make new hairstyles, faces, or skin colors for an entirely new race.
…but then again that was the concept for sub races that was turned into allied races so yeah.
There are also those Frostborn Dwarves in Northrend? I think thats what they are called. I’d like to know more about them anyway.
I had no idea this was even a thing and now desperately want to play as a Saurok
To be honest, I would happily play and level to a Heritage set any of the races you just listed. I’m honestly having a hard time grasping how to predict Allied Races now.
The first four were obviously teased by Legion (Void Elves to a lesser extent, but their buildup was there, albeit minimal). Dark Irons and Mag’har didn’t really have a heavy presence in the campaigns that unlocked them, and were kind of just there to fulfill something people had been asking for before Allied Races. Kul Tirans and Zandalari came after a long campaign of helping both of their respective continents. And now, Vulpera and Mechagnomes come from largely the same.
So frankly, with BFA’s close on the horizon, I don’t really know where they’re going to take it next. Since we’re going back to Uldum and Pandaria, the formula would suggest Mogu and Tol’vir, but I VERY much doubt that will be the case at all for several reasons. I’m unsure if they’ll even be carrying the Allied Race formula past BFA, but if they don’t, then I suspect 8.3.5 will introduce two final questlines to close out those last two slots on the select screen.
Wishful thinking? Krokuul for Alliance, Hozen for Horde.
Realistic thinking? Quite honestly, I don’t have a clue at this point, but I’m sure it won’t be either of those. While the popular theory has been Lightforged Undead (I’m not really opposed to it to be honest), there hasn’t really been any buildup to it outside of Calia, and even then that seems more like a character specific thing rather than a new race.
You are 100% right. As much as I would be fine with just a butt ton of Wildhammer customization options added to the Bronzebeards, I also feel at it’s core that is what “Allied Races” are supposed to be.
Yes it’s cool that we got some unique ones sprinkled in, but at the end of the day I would much rather the “new” races be given the full old school xpac treatment like Pandas/worgen and such, and the same races with new skins/voice work be added as allied races.
Stop adding Allied Races.
Just add Vrykul and Ogres. I’m extremely annoyed that a race that has been part of the horde since WC2 isn’t playable yet.
Actually, would you guys prefer going back to the two per expansion method of two races released at the start of the expansion or three to four races unlocked throughout the expansion?
The grinding irritated me but it kinda grew on me to be so spoiled for choices.
More choices are better.
Also Blizzard chooses to make the system a meaningless hell grind for their own purposes, it doesn’t really have to be that way at all.
But yeah if I had to pick one evil or another more is better. (Because it’s just as much an assumption that focusing on less would make the product better and gestures at BfA)
