Allied Race Restrictions 10.1.5 Feedback (It can be better)

Counter point: selecting a race for your character should be personal preference and not something to muscle through for the sake of “achievement”

If someone buying the game fresh for the first time rolls a void elf after 5hrs of play time instead of 10hrs I would be happy. Why wouldn’t you?

Personally I think the current requirements for the ARs is fine.
I don’t think everything should be handed to you. It’s a game, don’t you want to play it? Having goals to earn is fun and makes what your doing feel that much more accomplishing.
If the hypothetical new player doesn’t want to play and earn things then maybe they should try one of those phone clicker games.
This is coming from someone who doesn’t even have them all unlocked but I’m excited to do the original unlock quests. Learning about them might make me feel more connected with the race.
And that is a good feeling in an RPG.

This is sort of a lame take when it comes to character creation and picking your race/combo as a whole. There is still hundreds of not thousands of hours of stuff to do in WoW even if you made making a character easier.

Not to mention actual real gameplay lol. This part shouldn’t be difficult nor does it really need people to achieve anything to be able to do it if we are being honest. The “slippery slope” argument is a dull one and everybody who thought about it for half a second would know that giving players more choices earlier on at character creation would definitely not lead to the game being played for you or making end game easier lol.

40 is such a low bar to clear. That’s an afternoon at max. Plus, by then you will have a good idea of your preferred way to play

Honestly they shouldnt even need to be unlocked.
They should just be given to every player, new and old, by default.

Have the whole unlock scenario stuff be tied to giving out heritage armor.

TBH I agree. For old players the level requirements are just a bit more busywork, but for new players feels like too much of a time investment to even get to to what they might wanna Main.

The lack of requirements now don’t even necessitate a lore understanding so I don’t think it’s even fulfilling any purposes now. Maybe all the purpose it fills is to avoid too many options upon first character creation.

IDK. Allied Races shouldn’t have any requirements by now, and should be able to run to Exile’s Reach optionally.

The lvl 10 req feels like enough, IMO.

Not only that but they should start off with a full set of current Mythic tier gear.

Can’t wait for new players to roll a race and have absolutely no way to understand what those races are because there’s no starting zone for them.

This whole thing’s a mess if it’s for “new and returning” players.

I’d almost wager many blood elves never played wc3. The first time

And wisely didn’t play reforged lol.

It’s not like the 20 levels fills in the lore a lot For blood elves. Also retail gets the not good story. My classic blood elves swore allegiance to thrall. Not an undead high elf jailor puppet. But not a puppet…or something.

It’s pretty much assumed you know why some high elves are now mana junkies as you kill them. For the start.

So it’s not like tbcc/wrath would even get them spun up.

If hitting level 40 is too much of a time investment, they’re going to absolutely hate the rest of the game. Seems like a pretty good litmus test.

Because allied races are supposed to take some effort to unlock. Theynwere never intende to be an easy thing to get, and honestly i think 40 is too easy. It should be lvl cap imo.

And lets be real, who actually gets it right on the very first try and never tries something else? players cycle through mains depending playstyles and the class. That lvl 40 character wont be wasted time.

Dude, the point should be to make the on-boarding for new players engage so they stick around and delve into the more complex systems. The game should make itself the post appealing to them so they want to spend more time on it, and making them spend those early hours on a character they don’t like/seeing other options they don’t, might be the moment they just drop the game.

Reaching 40 could very well be too much time investment for something you’re trying, but if you are enjoying your character’s journey instead of just trying to hit 40 to start playing what you want, you’re definitelly more likely to stick around.

And reaching level 40, a feat that takes a whopping few hours (I just leveled a couple alts from scratch recently, so I would know) is enough to force someone anyway? They can’t be engaged in content because their race doesn’t have the right cosplay for a couple hours? Like I said,

I think 40 is just fine in itself for new or returning players.

As it currently stands once unlocked you start anywhere from level 8 to 10 with them.

It’s just a level thing with incoming patch.

By level 40 someone who is new or newish should have a good idea if they plan to keep playing at that point.

I agree with you. If you are new to the game you want to make a character that appeals to you most. It seems a little… pointless? To point a level 40 requirement on them?

It’s so middle of the road… I’m not sure I get the point.

It’s probably tied in to chromie time since there’s no starter zone for allied race and I’m guessing they’re reducing the requirement to use chromie time?

At this point I would be more satisfied if new players didn’t need to do any prerequisites and just had to start at 1 on the island as their only option. No one needs to miss out on the first 10 levels if they’re brand new but no one should need to make a character they don’t really want just to achieve an arbitrary level that then lets them choose what they do really want.

Doesn’t affect me in the slightest as I’m old af, but I feel the same way about this that I do about forcing new players to play bfa, it’s like blizzard kind of hates new players. Maybe hate is a strong word but they definitely dislike them and want them to suffer at least a little.

Now that you can fly in bfa that’s not nearly as bad, but directing them to one of the only regions that didn’t care about flight at 30 and 40 always looked absolutely wretched. Can’t have anything nice if you’re a new player, apparently.

At this point, just let new and returning players play whatever they want, if they want to play an allied race right away, let them ffs. I unlocked all of them when they were current and honestly wouldn’t give a flying F if they opened them up for everyone regardless. People defending this strike me as the kind of people who think because they had to do something a certain way, everyone must or it’s not fair to them.

Nah. I’m all for removing the other restrictions, but dang, you guys just want everything handed to you on a platter.

Serious question, do you really think that’s the sort of attitude WoW needs in order to court new players?

This isn’t about US, I level alts for fun too! We have AR’s unlocked probably since they came out. You have to think about what sort of onboarding experience WoW is offering to new players man.
