Any alliance zones with good story? I’ve heard good things about Stonetalon, Duskwood and Southern Barrens. Anywhere else I should check out?
The Ally BfA zones were really good, I wasent a big fan of stormsong valley, but tiragrade sound, and drustvar were really good.
Shadowmoon valley in draenor
Swamp of Sorrows is pretty nice as Alliance. It’s one of the few zones in Cata where the Alliance experiences victory, plus you get a cameo from Velen.
Lord Novington throws a heck of a party.
Drustvar is a feast of delights for those who enjoy horror.
Stonetalon, Darkshore, Duskwood are good for early levels. I’m also very partial to Jade Forest, Karasang Wilds and Mt. Hyal.
The Witches use different tactics at every stop we see them.
First stop they freeze everyone in place, second stop they turn everyone into pigs, third stop they kill everyone before we even get there, fourth stop the Witch attempts to create Wickermen out of the Cemetery Ghosts, fifth stop they are sending Wicker Beasts en mass to overrun the town which they convert into Beastmen surgically, sixth stop they personally bring a small group to attack the Witch Trial and on the seventh stop they unleash all out war upon the nearest town.
Eh, Southern barrens is okay, stonetalon is okayish. Darkshore is better. Duskwood is basically classic duskwood with some changes
I really, really enjoyed Drustvar and Tiragarde Sound.
Stormsong Valley is…ok. It’s not bad, it’s just very disjointed. The main narrative barely lasts for half the zone, and it feels pretty rushed.
Kul Tiras leveling is one of the few bright points in BfA. Same with Zandalar.
Duskwood is like the Great White Shark of Zone Storylines - It was so good it has hardly had to evolve through the ages. It started good; its still good.
Twilight Highlands (Alliance storyline) was the highlight of Cata for me. You get there by crash landing with Flintlocke, you get involved in drunken Dwarf village politics, you fight some Horde, you fight some Cultists, you go inside an Old God, fight Black dragons, run missions with Matthias Shaw… this zone was clearly written by someone who was extremely stoned, and it was fantastic.
BfA, for all our qualms with the writing, was really fun Alliance-side. I loved Tiragarde and Drustvar especially.
I feel Redridge should get special mention for basically mashing the A-Team and Rambo together with reckless abandon in a long quest line of violence against the Blackrock Clan.
(Also, I will never NOT mention the original Mother of all Long Quest Lines: OG DARROWSHIRE. Plaguelands was so freaking awesome back then, and Darrowshire was the pinnacle. To this day the original Darrowshire is my hands down favorite quest line. Its still good after Cata, but it just feels less epic.)
Blizzard wanted Quillboar and Tidesage narratives yet decided to replace the one of the Quillboar Questlines with Horde due to Quillboar fatigue by the writers.
The writers should have replaced most of the Quillboar Questlines with Tidesage ones honestly! They then could have had enough questlines to slowly build up to the K’thir reveal rather than expose it at the 3rd stop!
From doing Classic I’ve enjoyed the original Elwynn-Westfall-Redridge-Duskwood storyline
It’s been enjoyable to see things escalate and get really good from the end of Westfall to Duskwood.
Many of the Alliance zones were the victim of the ‘Look at this funny reference!’ humour that infested a lot of the Cata revamps, but it really does depend on what you’re looking for.
For Azeroth stuff, Duskwood and Swamp of Sorrows are both quite good for Alliance questing. Western Plaguelands is also enjoyable despite the loss of Andorhal.
Outland I would recommend Hellfire and Terrokar Forest.
Northrend is great all around for both Horde and Alliance, but the two starting zones there, Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord, are the best for pure Alliance vibes. I’d put Dragonblight above both of them, slightly, however.
MoP the Jade Forest is great, as is Kun’lai.
WoD, barring Shadowmoon, I didn’t really like any of the zones for pure Alliance stuff. Probably because of how much “look at all this interesting draenei lore that is now on fire” there was.
Legion was the same for both faction.
Aaand BfA is great all around, some of the best zone writing they’ve done… which didn’t carry over to their overall story, oddly.
Fixed it for you.
The fact that you can write the wedding song is the highlight for me.
I always choose the NSFW lyrics
The problem is that the reveal is already done if you do the anglepoint wharf storyline
They honestly should have shoved Anglepoint into Stormsong Valley and put the Quillboar Invasion in Tiragarde Sound. They would have still had a reference to the other Zones in Tiragarde Sound but it wouldn’t have exposed the Tidesages as K’thir until the player got far enough into Stormsong Valley!
Yes! And though it’s not Alliance exclusive, Stanglethorn Vale flows nicely out of those zones as well. You can basically get all the way to level 40 while enjoying excellent story content. It’s by far the smoothest progression path in Classic.
originally the intro was ten times better. Which involved Varian, plus naval battles.
The intro to twilight highlands for alliance (before it was removed in legion) involved Anduin. You go around Stormwind with Anduin inspecting signs of the Twilights hammer.
That chain also served as a hint that some members of the Church of the Holy Light were members of the Cult, as you fight the Black Bishop in the cathedral’s crypts.
that was intro 2. The first intro was one that was datamined with audio. Where there was a naval battle.
