Ion already stated its never gonna happen. If you want lite skinned elves the horde is waiting for you. were his exact words.
But…
they may add blue eyes for a customization option for blood elves.
and the next part is a big if, but i think its actually gonna happen.
the next expansion they will allow any race to any faction.
They are already setting it up to happen; all the story’s and cinematic’s of horde and alliance finally coming together, faction symbol at character select screen to know which faction this race fights for, and (at least for horde) they removed all race leaders from the embassy and has been replaced by the pandaren leader, the only race that can choose their faction.
So that is the only hope at “high” elves for the alliance

Seriously, I’ve wondered why all of a sudden we have faction symbols on that screen. I’d like this tbh. ESO has it and I really enjoy it, and they let you know with the faction symbol which one you are with.

Yeah i want this to happen more than anything! It makes sense too.
I want void elves on the horde lol

That or just remove them, with how the narrative is going, faction restrictions on things might start getting in the way of things past level cap.
My thoughts too. weird how all of a sudden we finally got it. not any other point in wow’s history. only after the crossroads cinematic of thrall and jaina, and the 4th war ending and actually having peace.
And most mmo’s and rpgs already do it. its time for wow to join as well. and it makes sense to allow it to happen to truly embrace the rpg nature of the game
Either that, or they relax the factional barriers for some of the races in the near future. I still don’t see a night elf wanting to even remotely work with the Horde after what has happened.
I could see orcs, humans, night elves, and trolls being faction-tied. Or at least the main 4 of both factions being barred. While BC+ races will be able to make the choice… since you know. Draenei don’t give a damn about faction conflict.
I had thought I was imagining it when I had seen it, my buddy said he hadn’t noticed it either but perhaps it was just added for flair. I doubt they’d add something like this just for flair
Yeah i can see this too. if thats the case, i dont see night elves and worgen joining the horde and zandalari trolls and goblins joining the alliance. thats all from story wise why it makes sense for them not to.
but at the same time if it would be only two from each not joining it doesnt make sense. might as well just be all at that point
To be that nitpicky person, he said “anything’s possible in the future, but for now no plans to make them playable”…amusing how the anti helf crowd translates that line as 'Ion said NO!/NEVER, shut up about it!"
The same crowd also say “blood elves are high elves!” Which they are, no arguments from me on that account. Of course by that logic void elves are also high elves, so Alliance already have high elves…albeit void-flavored ones.
And if Blizzard removes the faction barrier and allows people to make a blood elf character and then choose Alliance, they’ll have another flavor of high elf available.

yeah for all we know its just a quality of life change. but still seems weird to wait this long. especially after allowing 50 toons per realm now. why not add that symbol in 8.1? 8.1.5? 8.2?? no, they waited till after all the cinematic’s and story and war campaign to be done to add it

I don’t think the faction barrier will drop. More of we will be allowed to group together as The Heroes of Azeroth or something along those lines. I agree though it is the only way the Alliance will get to group with fair skinned elves.

Ion’s actually the on that said that in a q&a video with lore
I truly hope we can quest and group with Alliance LOL. My Horde server is deader than a door nail, and I quest as it is with hand gestures to Alliance while there to get the go ahead for shared elites and rares hehe
well on my server its like. Whats Alliance? A52 is 97% horde
I know >.>
Area 52 is what created a dead Muradin
lol
Well yes, that would be the solution wouldn’t it.
I guess Ion would still get to feel like he was pushing the player-base around, but I don’t care about that. If Blood Elves get blue eyes and become available to the alliance that’s the thing done.
That would get me back and checking out what my chore list looks like.
I hope we don’t have to do some kind of month long retro grind per race to unlock them. How galling would that be?
I’m not gonna tell you no, cause I feel like even if they never do it, why does it hurt to ask for it? You lose more by not continuing to ask imho.
But Ion was the one who said that High Elves are Blood Elves, which is a true technicality, barring the eye color. They were born as Helves, that could be why he had said that.
I’d say not to stop the good fight. But if they don’t and tehy remove the faction barrier, all you’d have to do is make a blonde haired golden eye blood elf if you didn’t want green eyes (Still hoping they add blue to the options)
Yes, only this time it will be the one people have actually been asking for.
Yes, and I said in the same post that it’s true…blood elves are high elves, no argument from me on that account. But on the forums I’ve seen anti helfers say ‘blood elves are high elves’ and immediately follow that statement with " but void elves AREN’T high elves, so ha ha!" Which to me just smacks of someone being petty and immature, like a kid going “I have ice cream and you don’t, nyah nyah nyah nyah!”
