The alliance in Nazmir were far from being soldiers. More like lambs to the slaughter. After the initial horde counter-attack most stood shell shocked. It was hardly a fight to cut through what defenses they didn’t have. The one leader they had left the soldiers on the surface to die and hid in a hole. Did the alliance send civilians in armor for a distraction? I know the alliance is desperate, but …
But seriously, I know its just a starting quest line and all but that was super easy. Did the horde have to send “everyone” to that incursion that ended after about 10 minutes. You would think they would have noticed something was wrong much sooner.
I think the better question is, when did our leaders become so damn stupid? They spent the first 10 minutes of the questline talking about how stupid it would be to invade thru Nazmir, and then sent all of our forces there to meet it.
No, but you’d think that they would do more than a 10 minute resistance/distraction. The biggest fight was a the leader in the whole. It’s almost like it was less of a battle and more of bait for the horde meat grinder to wet it’s teeth into. The point of the distraction was to make the horde think the main army and attack was coming from the north.
Of the Thirty-six Stratagems, The Alliance invoked Number 6: Clamour in the East, Attack from the West.
Furthermore:
The Decoy Force makes good progress, downing two garrisons and a Blood Troll village.
Jaina herself makes an appearance at the Blood Gate, lending credibility to the idea that this wasn’t just a attack…it was THE attack.
The guy left in charge, Blademaster Telaamon, might not have been a very lore important NPC, but in-universe he was not small potatoes. He’d been fighting the Burning Legion since before Velen’s hair was white.
Alliance soldiers usually have families and lives to go back to. They aren’t the type to sacrifice themselves outside of very specific named cases like Bolvar.
They aren’t stupid like the orcs who don’t care if they die “as long as it’s honorable.”
I find it funny that it was primarily dark irons and void elves, too. “Hey guys, your first big alliance misssioooooooooon…are you ready? It’s gonna be VERY important…”
The Alliance and Horde leadership have been particularly stupid this x-pac. It is necessary to further the plot.
As much as I love the idea of a faction war, in order for it to actual work “in lore” at this point in the story is for all the leaders to play catch with the Idiot Ball.
