For me, I started playing vanilla WoW on my uncles account when I was like 8 or 9 years old as a gnome mage because that was his main, and I thought it was so cool. I didn’t get my own account until I was closer to 12 I think, and my two older brothers were playing at that point as well. I was going to make another gnome mage, but they told me that only little kids play alliance, and so I rolled horde with them. Thus, I made my troll hunter. Ever since, I’ve primarily played horde characters.
The alliance is the “prettier” faction, sure. But they seem a little boring to me now. I see their races as: human, small human, even smaller human, and purple human with long ears haha.
To be fair, if I play Classic WoW for years and years to come, I’ll probably make a gnome mage and female human pally on a PvE server (after leveling, gearing, and playing my horde toons until I’m content, of course).
But I just wanna ask everyone, what makes you choose your faction?
A specific race of that faction kick starts it for you?
Playing with friends, family, guildies on that same faction?
Shaman or Paladin preference?
What is it that makes you decide?
Edit: And what faction will you be playing in Classic (assuming you’re on a PvP server like me) ?
For some reason, I’ve always loved the Troll lore when paired with the Shaman class. I’ve mostly rolled Alliance toons as of late, but when I was younger I almost ALWAYS created Troll toons.
Here’s to hoping that I’m able to recapture that same love and excitement for Trolls that I had when I was a kid!
Big true hahaha. In the BFA cinematic, when Sylvannas screamed “FOR THE HORDE” I squealed like a little girl lol. But when the human king yelled “For the Alliance” it was super lame. I’m pretty sure his name is Anduin, but I haven’t really played WoW since MoP and I haven’t cared about the Lore since WotLK
I’m rolling alliance because my friends always forced me to play horde. I’ve never cared for horde. The aesthetics, the music, the cities all suck imo. And having played both, to be honest, I always found horde to be more immature than alliance. Probably because all the kids went to horde when they were told only kids play alliance lol.
Haha I know I probably don’t help the stats because I was a kid playing horde back then, but I find it interesting that you think horde is more immature than alliance. I don’t think I have an opinion on the matter, but I know i’ve heard at least a few people in youtube vids say that horde is more mature for the most part.
Orc. I rolled an Orc Shaman to start because I wanted to be like Thrall. Later added Orc Warrior and Orc Hunter for support. Also a level 39 Orc Rogue twink who was a beast.
Towards the end of Vanilla there was a thread on the old Pally forums about Female Human Paladins. It was a fun thread and inspired me to roll my own. Got her to BWL before TBC came out leveled her up through Pandas.
Orc Shaman was always my first priority in ever expansion though and Orc Warlock will be this time around.
Even so, saying both out loud to myself, I think “for the horde” sounds menacing and cool. Whereas, “for the alliance” seems a little too boring classical music for my taste
Rolling horde bc I always played horde since vanilla, and I really can’t stand Ironforge, Darnassus and Stormwind really… UC, Org and TB are much cooler
Agreed there. Personally, I do find that Horde players have more of a “us against the world” attitude, which is a big plus in PVP. World or BGs. This is why I’m rolling Horde this time.
I can respect that for sure, but I actually think Ironforge is my all time favorite city out of both factions. Maybe because it was the first city I ever encounter with my little gnome mage back in vanilla. I have memories of being in ironforge and having my uncle point out a voidwalker to me and told me that I could only get one if I was a warlock.
