What. the. ****
I’m pretty sure I played this before but I just went through it again with my DI and I’m just flabbergasted. I mean, in general it seems the Alliance post-Cata quest lines just plain suck all across the board but Arathi is just plain bad. Nation of Strom, first of the human nations lies in ruin and you have a group of Stromgarde survivors claiming that they want to rebuild and what do you do? Oh kill 10 syndicate, 10 trolls and then go on some stupid neutral questline for some elementals and a pirate that the Horde can also do if they want.
I’m pretty sure the Horde has a direct quest into Stromgarde with ressing their dead prince or something but the Alliance? Nothing. Are there ANY good Alliance 1-60 quest zones? They’re all so bad.

Before Cata: Not enough quests. After Cata: Filler quests added.
Before Cata they at least had quests inside Stromgarde right? I’m pretty sure they did… I remember fighting tons of Alliance inside Stromgarde.
69% sure that’s a Death Knight Legion questline.

I’m of the opinion that most leveling questing sucks, so there’s that. Engaging parts are rare.
The Horde’s storyline is pretty much the same thing. Fight some trolls, ogres, the syndicate, raptors. That’s about it. Arathi’s not a big place.
On Horde side you’re just helping the prince of Stromgarde reclaim his special sword. The death knight campaign in Legion is where you resurrect their former king and destroy the rest of them.
Yeah, Arathi is a filler zone, regrettably. I have a deep love of Stromgarde and thought they might actually make it a city and restore the first human empire this expansion.
How terribly wrong I was.
Duskwood is pretty great, Darkshore was also pretty fun. It’s unfortunate but a lot of Alliance zones got turned into movie or pop culture references instead of stories that might be interesting.

No, the DK one is ressing their king. The Cata one is ressing their prince and stealing the family sword and then the prince betrays the Horde or something… can’t remember all the details.
I dunno… seems like the Horde has some pretty decent “stories” while the Alliance is more or less all suck other than the few Night Elf ones that run parallel to the Horde’s story (e.g. Ashenvale, S. Barrens and Stonetalon). But the Horde also got really improved EK stories in Silverpine and Hillsbrad and the Alliance has been nothing but fetch quests even when a town is clearly under siege or invaded by Werewolves or what have you.
hmm idk about good. Some have interesting parts. Fiona in EP is entertaining. Pamela quest line is still there but watered down I believe. I don’t stay in a zone long enough to complete it anymore. Nesingwary in Stranglethorn if you like killing animals quests - good for skinners but gets old quickly.
If you’re looking for some quick XP go to Loch Modan and find the 6 Explorer’s League documents. I usually go up 2 levels just turning those in. There’s a wanted quest to kill the dude in the cave nearby and he has a book with the locations of the docs.
EDIT: Oh you’re looking for Alliance specific ones … hmm nothing stands out but I kinda do lower level quests on auto pilot now
Fiona and Nesingwary are neutral. I haven’t come across something Alliance specific that’s actually any good.
Blizz said we won that warfront so maybe if they do another old world remake, we’ll get some more stuff.
Alliance questing got dunked hard in cata. It’s one of the reasons I’ve been avoiding 1-60 ever since.
- The formerly excellent quadro of human starters zones were spoiled in various ways.
• Northshire’s vinyards got set on fire.
• Elwynn’s Defias got changed to generic bandits that are still everywhere for, uh, reasons.
• Westfall got turned into hobo jokes, CSI references, and the “Defias are back but actually they aren’t”.
• Redridge was changed to one big Rambo reference.
• Duskwood was reworked to make the dark riders kinda toothless.
- Loch Modan went from a beautiful green dwarf zone to a sad mud puddle with Twilight’s Hammer everywhere.
- Menethil Harbor got wrecked.
- Hillsbrad became Horde only, with Southshore getting gooped.
- As you noted, Alliance side Arathi gets no development at all despite Danath Trollbane being back from Outland, and to make it worse a Trollbane gets raised as Forsaken.
- After the Alliance worked with the Argent Crusade and Cenarion Circle to cleanse Western Plaguelands, make it habitable, and begin rebuilding, the Forsaken comes through and craps all over everything because snidely whiplash leader.
- Gilneas gets plagued to uselessness.
- The long-awaited addition of Twilight Highlands and a significant Wildhammer presence is soured by half the zone being tentacles and some clans of Wildhammer getting wiped out.
- Aszhara, which held perhaps the most potential out of every zone in Kalimdor for being interesting, got turned into Lowbie Booger Laugh Hour.
- Darkshore got torn to shreds.
- Ashenvale and Felwood get half-cut-down by the Horde.
- Feathermoon Island gets sunk.
It’s a freaking disaster. The only place where Alliance makes any gain at all is in Swamp of Sorrows with Stonard getting destroyed, and if I recall that’s not even reflected on the Horde side.
