they will either kidney and kill you or vanish and reopen while you have nothing left… you really dont realize how it goes do you… i mean go on a moonkin get opened by a rogue then come back and talk there is literally no counter play
I don’t even know where to begin unpacking this.
You’re patently wrong, sorry.
Will be a 3 second kidney, but a sub rogue isn’t going to use his combo points to half kidney you man if they cheapshotted you, sub rogues triple cheap to kill so they can spam eviscs
I know far more about the game than you do I promise lol
Ok if you know it’s an arena or a duel you should be in bear form for their opener to begin with and you should be guardian aff.
Shadowblades is a massive damage commitment by a sub rogue, their damage falls off without it. If you get stunned on your trinket that means the rogue held a global (wasn’t doing damage in the stun then) to restun you - in which case that’s a bit of you getting outplayed). You just wait for the rogue to use a global then you can use something.
Trinket renewal if you’re in bear as boomkin for example would help you out significantly plus frenzy regen
Shadowblades again, is where all of their damage is put into. If you survive that and they reset, they’re doing far less damage in their next openers. This is how sub rogue works.

it’s fun bein fast and all but i wish i had some buttons to press in response
like, i wall and i still just get w keyed and die extremely quickly whether it’s up or down :l
People keep calling for nerfs then we will be back at extremely slow drooling BFA pace all over again.
Current pace is extremely refreshing. It’s gonna slow down a bit more as the months go by but I hope it somewhat retains its current speed.
I never ever wanna see BFA “organic” meta return. Imagine needing a bit of reactive gameplay in your video games.

Yea renown levels will give more and more stamina too, big factor here
More stun breakers would be nice. You can 1 button 1 shot my health if you want as long as I dont have to sit in a stun and watch you.
Thanks a lot Dilly, that is actually extremely helpful. With how bursty the game it is, it helps a lot to have a planned-out response rather than thinking on the fly. If you don’t mind, could you explain how to deal with the Rogue target swapping? Shadowblades is 20s and Dance/Symbols is 9/10s, and with how bursty the meta is, that gives the Rogue enough time to force Trinket/Defensives on one target and then just step over and kill the other. i.e. I might trinket & use defensives, and then just get blinded and the Rogue kills my partner. Or I get blinded first, I trinket to prevent my partner from dying and then just get swapped to.

The rogue is going to commit a good amount of his damage to one person to begin with
But a good thing to do vs sub rogues in general is to just spread out apart from each other
If you make it so he cannot easily step between targets, then he’s not going to hurt you. And usually in goes they have to try to say step a healer, then step to the kill target. Playing max range from each other makes this a lot more difficult for the rogue. The time that you spend away from each other gives you more time to try to pre-emptively react to the sub rogue. The opener it’s generally just spreading and not stacking, then one person can use a CD.
If you’re the healer and you’re using trinket on blind to heal because your partner didn’t use their own defensive, then you need to be far away from each other so the rogue cannot step back and swap to you immediately.
Shadowstep has a 25 yard range, so you need to position well
A lot of the way you have to play around rogues isn’t actually just seeing omg big damage happening, it’s just all planning it out ahead of time. That’s why WoW isn’t really a game about reactions, it’s just a game where you focus more on knowing what to do ahead of time. If you’re prepared you can answer things a lot better.
Edit: If you need I can make like a quick diagram or something of how you can position, can just give example comps/maps.
Thanks, that is super helpful.
Np!
Also keep in mind, specs like warriors are your best friend. They’re one of the best classes to have on your arena team if you want to deal with sub rogues, their toolkit is great at shutting them down.
Helps if you have a spec that might be worse at reacting to sub rogues, like a dps shaman on your team.
Music to my ears. I’m a WLD or WMD type of player, and I’ve really missed playing with Warriors when they were kind of… absent in BfA.
Yeah WMD will probably be really solid
Warrior/Spriest is another solid comp, honestly warlocks aren’t that great but shadow can take a similar role for them. Warrior/Spriest/Rdruid however is fantastic at dealing with setups and is one of the strongest defensive DPS combos you can have.
Just as another sample for discussion, a dh hit a rogue for 17.9k “The Hunt” covenant ability in a game today.
