Hi, sorry to resurrect an old thread, but this was the most relevant one I found regarding the Rend ability.
Iām a returning PVP-only Warrior, and I was interested in learning more about the most recent discussion on this thread about when/if you use Rend. I was thinking of doing a build without any Rend abilities at all.
I was a bit confused by this:
Is Valorcus here saying that itās strange, and yet you would (should) still do it? What is the benefit of this? Do Deep Wounds keep rolling kind of like Mage Ignites?
Would I be making a big mistake in forgoing all Rend abilities? Any special mechanics or interactions I would be missing out on if I do that, besides the meager damage?
Sorry for the late reply back and I believe I saw you make a similar thread somewhere else trying to ask if you would be at a disadvantage not taking Rend.
I can speak for PvP but not PvE. Unfortunately the answer is yes. You will be worse off without Rend by a large margin in PvP.
Rend does damage regardless of armor. So Rend is high value against Paladins, Warriors and DK compared to just spamming Overpower/Slam as fillers.
Then, so many classes have such high mobility that you need to have Rend rolling on them at all times to maintain damage and pressure. Mages and Hunters are big counters to Warriors in PvP. Without Rend, you will find it so difficult to kill these targets.
As for the gameplay element, yes Rend is redundant. Rend is essentially Deep Wounds #2.
I personally, love Arms the most when I am pressing Mortal Strike, Overpower and Execute for the vast majority of my rotation. I also enjoy throwing in the occasional Slam/WW as rage dumps for tactician procs. But nothing kills the spec for me more than having to constantly press and maintain my Rend on targets.
