Is there somewhere that shows a list of every piece that is achievable by PvP only in Classic? I know about main rank pieces, but there are also AB, WSG, and AV pieces? Did people put together a mix of all those sets or was there some kind of desired setup if your only access to gear was through PvP?
Wowhead can help you out, or you can download Atlas Loot and view them in-game.
Yes so I found three reputation guides for each faction (Horde ones that is). I have yet to find a Hunter two hander in that list but it seems you could cover pretty much every other slot.
If you’re not talking about PvP weapons which require rank 14, then your best bet for a 2hander specifically from PvP would be:

You are correct this isn’t listed, because it’s from a quest reward rather than a reputation vendor. But it’s from Alterac Valley.
Atlas loot addon shows every available item and in what phase they are available in
Ok, I have about 25 addons but not that one…I will check it out.
Ice Barbed Spear, nice, thanks.
IIRC many hunters used a defensive pve weapon…
something like the polearm from Dire Maul… but if your not wanting anything from PvE… IDK
Yes, IBS was well regarded as one of the most easily accessible strong 2hand options for a lot of classes back in Vanilla. Great stat budget, and good balance between Str/Agi/Stam (the latter being super important for survivability in PvP).
Do bare in mind though, that as a hunter, the same quest rewards:

And if you’re dead set against doing PvE content for gear, you’re going to have a hard time finding a better ranged weapon from PvP content alone.
If you’re not the kind of person who got to max level in the first week or two odds are you won’t be the type of person that has actual PvP gear in classic. Because the means to earn both of those things are the same, a lack of life force. Just make gold and twink at lower levels until we get BC or Wraith bro lol.
I think you’re vastly overestimating how much time it takes to get rank 10 for full blue set.
Pair this with epic weapons and armor pieces from Exalted BG factions and you’ll get everything you need eventually. BG rep isn’t a ladder, so you don’t need to no-life to stay competitive. Just play as often or as little as you want and you’ll get it all eventually.
As a warrior, even with no gear from PvP ranking, I can get:
Neck: Purple from AV, Blue from WSG
Shoulders: Purple from AB
Bracers: Purple from WSG
Belt: Blues from AB & AV
Pants: Purple from WSG
Boots: Blue from AB
Cloak: Purple from AB, Blue from WSG
Trinket: Blue from AB
Ring: Purple from AV, Blue from WSG
Weapon: Purples from AV; Blues from WSG & AV
Ranged: Blues from AV & WSG
Literally the only slots you can’t gear from strict PvP is Helm/Chest/Gloves. For me, helm and gloves are craftable slots anyway for Lionheart and Stronghold respectively. That leaves just the chest.
For people who hate RNG, BG rep grinding is a very viable method towards making discernible and measurable progress towards an upgrade in relation to time spent. I killed Rend 60 times for his Mainhand sword and never saw it once—BGs at least allow you to always progress towards a goal, win or lose.
Definitely a viable concern and I wasn’t even going to play Classic for that reason but here I am sucked in anyway. With all these rep rewards it does seem like there might be hope, plus as mentioned I heard Rank 10 really wasn’t that bad to get but I guess I will find out.
Yeah I started when there was actual pvp vendors and honor from bg’s used to purchase it. I’m not a big fan of the pvp system in vanilla because the main rewards are just a grind fest, while in burning crusade and wraith pvp seemed like a larger part of the game due to having devoted vendors to it, with more tiers. I never was an arena player but I liked how they gave different ranks more gear to progress with, and frankly as a casual pvper I was more than content with the standard honor vendor gear. The only thing that always irked me was that blizz always kept pve gear a stetp ahead of pvp gear in terms of power so dragon slayer nerds could own in bg’s despite never sitting foot in one before, against fully geared pvp players.
But there has always been debates and issues with this, but as it stands in terms of both sides of the playerbase having content and gear options, bc and wraith had the best systems of itemization and obtaining said items, and the game still had most if not all of classics features such as talent trees and professions. So all in all that was the games peak point in my opinion, and if I’m not mistaken, I think the sub count was at the peak as well.
