Plater, Bartender, Elvui, Shadow Unit Frames, Shadow and Light, Exorsus raid tools, and all my other addons got the profile information deleted… hours of custimization gone… and this means this is my last month of WoW… ty for this bliz great job.
Add-ons are done by a 3rd party. The only thing Blizzard does is allow it to exist.
I could be wrong but I could have sworn that data was saved locally. I’m not sure Blizzard could delete that information.
I had it last night. we got an update today and boom its all gone. only thing that changed was the update from bliz
Don’t need add-ons to play.
Did they move it? Like when they restructured the directory trees a few months back?
I mean… technically they’re doing all sorts of crazy stuff in the background as soon as you load up WoW.exe. That’s to say nothing of what they’re up to with the battle net agent… they basically have an essential backdoor on your filesystem (
whole lot more than that but for the sake of this conversation…) so any kind of bug which touches on (at or above) the files where the addons are located could potentially affect addon data.
The question here is…
- Was WoW.exe running at the time?
- Was Agent.exe running at the time?
- Was the WoW voice proxy running at the time?
Of these three, #1 and #2 are most likely, with #2 being quite possible since it’s actually meant to touch on files in this fashion (e.g. updater).
That said… black box
I have used those addons and it’s 15-20 minutes of customization, 30 minutes if I have to write macros.
Always gotta back your stuff up anyway.
I don’t think you put enough “!?” in your title to truly express how your feeling right now.
Addon data being deleted has been around since Vanilla. There is a reason it’s recommended over and over to back up your addons folder.
So the OP got a Bnet update and it deleted all his add-ons for no reason on his part ? Damn if that affects a lot of others ppl going to be real pissed
I’m sorry you have had this happen to you. It does feel devastating, especially if you engage in a lot of customization.
However, before we give up, do verify that your twitch client hasn’t just lost track of the appropriate directory. I have had that happen, and it had my heart racing for a bit.
Also verify that you don’t accidentally have two versions of WoW in your file structure (not Classic/Beta/Retail, but Retail/retail).
I hope you can find out it’s just a file pointer mistake. If not, I always try to look upon it as an opportunity to freshen up my tools and UI. (beats weeping openly ~.^)
Best wishes!
it reset everything. it reset my graphics, interface settings. it reset it all… i checked my twich and the dicrectory is correct. my classic settings were not changed only retail. and it reset everything. i have raid tonight and not enough time to fix it.
it also deleted all my custom weak auras and that alone is going to take several hours to recreate for all the things i had and on multiple toons… so frustrating. this is worth unsubbing for.
I’m so sorry to hear that. I (crossing fingers) didn’t have that happen with the update. Have you checked tech support to see if anyone else is reporting this problem?
Also, on the off chance you have a file restore program, you may be able to recover some of the data.
It sounds like your Interface Folder got owned to me. This folder is worth backing up in the future.
I’d like to point out that we aren’t recieving a flood of reports of the same issue, so it was likely a misbehaving third-party tool that has screwed you. As mearly an example, once my antivirus got a falsepositive in my wow folder years ago and deleted everything. I had a backup so it was fine and I was up and going in 3 minutes.
Can’t stress this enough. Backup backup backup.
I have never had that happen to me and I have been playing since the end of vanilla. This is either a new thing or the player did something to his WTF, Cache, and/or Interface folders without realizing it.
Or someone else in the household did.
no one did anything. i only have access since i live alone lol. and nothing changed with my classic version of the game. this only affected retail. and only after the update.
I smell operator error.
