Algarian Stormrider - Can I have Whirling Surge Back?

I think the new Algarian Stormrider is gorgeous and I want to love and use it, but the loss of Whirling Surge is awful, and I seem to be too stupid to figure out how to actually build Lightning Rush to 10 stacks. Even if LR is amazing when you can finally cast it (who even knows), not being able to cast it on-mount feels awful and I would turn it off immediately if I could.

Can we please opt-out of this change? I don’t want to abandon the coolest mount I’ve seen in a long time because it can’t do a core Dragonriding button.

I agree. As I stated on another thread, we already have talent trees for dragonriding. Why can’t they stick an option on there for us to spec into that ability if we want to use it? I feel it’s inferior to Whirling Surge because you have to build up static over a short while before even using it.

FYI, you build up the 10 stacks of static by flying close to walls.

the new skill need you to hug the walls
but the skill is bugged atm sometime if using a mouse to fly the mouse will not turn that clean. dont know if its my mouse but keep an eye out

Or, hear me out…

Use a different mount.

I guess you gotta hug the wall or the ground.

The main issue is that you cannot turn worth a damn after you activate the ability.

The only thing it has over whirling surge is that it does not cost any vigor.

TBH skimming the ground at high speeds is a pretty fun way to travel, but the turning is a big problem.

Edit: I guess it’s not the ground alone, but literally anything sticking out of the ground counts.

Yeah, I’d have liked an option to keep the old ability, for sure. Not least because the new one is bugged and you can’t control the direction with the mouse after you use the ability. Blizzard, did you even test this?

BTW, there’s a post in the Bug Report forum about this, so add your voices!

Haven’t had issues with it but the bug definitely sounds annoying. My assumption is bliz are going to split all the mounts in the game up into 8-9 groups and give them each an ability based on their type. Dragons probably all keep whirling surge, gryphons maybe all get the static effect? Etc etc. I think it’s pretty cool and honestly whirling surge wasn’t a button I pressed much if at all.

After using the ability I’m unable to maneuver until it was done. It’s very annoying.

That’s kinda the point. You fly very very fast in a straight-ish line.

That’s not a bug. It’s a feature. Basically you are moving too fast to be able to turn. When you slow down your turning returns.

Realistic immersive flying I guess.

So that’s intented? I guess I’ll have to be careful when using it on the race courses.

I have to wonder how you are going to find enough walls to build 10 stacks on most race courses…at least, without losing a lot of time.

The race courses are specifically designed to give you massive straight lines just after you reach 10 stacks. The only one I found myself holding it on was the one in the snow.

Wait, are you talking about new races or old ones?

I almost never used whirling surge in courses anyway, so nothing lost I suppose. It will be hard to get used to going back and forth though. Based on the video, it looked like more or all of our mounts were getting what they’re calling dynamic flying, so I’m wondering they’ll have this too or somthing else.

New ones. The old ones I didn’t press whirling surge in at all anyway so it’s net neutral. If there’s ways to leverage the static charges ability in older races then cool but I wouldn’t expect or rely on it. The third ability on each mount looks to be more niche / flavour based.
