Yesterday, I realized dragon eggs have barbs on them.
I mean, dragons lay dragon eggs, right?
They come out of Alexstrasza’s body, barbs and all?
Wouldn’t those barbs just shred any hole they exited?
I still loved cata version more. They should just give them hi-res textures without encasing then in that plate armor

I always headcanoned it as they come out smooth and the barbs developed afterward. Because if not… 
There are some eggs that come out soft and then harden in the air. I like to think that dragon eggs are like those.

It depends. It might be that the direction of laying is such that the spines won’t tear anything, or it could be that the egg shells and the spines on them are soft at laying and harden after exposure to air. Soft eggs is a trait of some reptilian species.
Could also be that dragon internals are just as heavily armored as the outside.
