Alexandros In Maldraxxus

So Ive seen that Alexandros is in Shadowlands, as apart of the Necrolords. However I am confused on this, and wondering why he doesnt go to the maw?

From memory, I remember that undead dont have a afterlife. That when they die thats it, just a void, like when Sylvanas lept off of Icecrown.

Alexandros was raised as a DK and defeated in Naxramus, so why does he get to go to the Shadowlands yet other undead dont? Or is the lore being reworked so that DK/Undead so get sorted instead of going right into the maw?

I thought him being a DK got retconned in Wrath when they replaced him with Baron Rivendare?

All undead go back to the Shadowlands when they die. Undead are just souls attached to corpses and those souls go back to where they came from afterwards. Being in a state of undeath doesn’t necessarily send you to the Maw, it depends on other factors of your character.

What Sylvanas saw was the Maw, Blizz said her association with the Jailer started after that. But at the time it was just described as a nameless void of torment. Which is still true.

And so is he supposedly which questing in that zone I think explores that or answers it, I donno didn’t bother reading more.

You remember it wrong. The Undead have an afterlife. That’s what started this whole mess. When Sylvanas died, she went to the maw. That’s how she got her Jailer pact.

There are other Undead characters in the Shadowlands, like Kel’thuzad (who went to Maldraxxus).

This was a theory that I’ve heard mentioned a couple of times, but afaik Blizzard never said it.

I forgot all about this guy. But in the end, WoW lore is terrible so it doesn’t matter.

The Church of the Holy Light BELIEVES that being raised as undead damns your soul.

The Church Of the Holy Light also believes the light is a god that has opinions. They’re wrong about a lot of things.

The answer can be seen during the Shadowmourne questline, I believe. You finish the quest and you receive a soul shard that confirms that his soul was saved by Darion and the player.

My apologies I should of worded it better. By no afterlife, I essentially meant the maw. I know they go somewhere, and i thought all undead would go there. Still though, if thats where undead go, he isnt there. Though the participants in the thread do raise some interesting points. Imma have to dive a bit deeper into this see if I can find anything concrete on life after the final death for undead.

A lot of people thought that, but as I’ve been saying for a while now, Blizzard never stated that.

People just assumed that since Sylvanas went to the maw and she is so fundamentally good, the only possible reason why Sylvanas would go to the maw would be her Undeath.

But the thing is: Sylvanas is bad. Very bad. She is exactly the type of person that goes to the Maw. She committed genocide because someone said she couldn’t kill hope and she was like “watch me!”

Well he is actually wielding a sword similar to the corrputed Ashbringer in Shadowlands, so I think that remains that he was a DK

He’s had is background pushed around enough its kind of hard to tell.

Yeah that thought crossed my mind, whether she would go there because shes undead or because shes just kinda evil.

I do hope Blizzard explores this topic, as I am very interested in what exactly happens when undead die.

Undead don’t go to the Maw. Only threats to the cosmos or the most vile irredeemable souls do. Maldraxxus is basically the proto-scourge. They’re the military might of the Shadowlands.

For now all souls go to the Maw by default.
It seems when Alexandros died in the Physical realm, his soul completely regenerated a new body inside the Shadowlands.

Alexandros was sent to Maldraxxus because his Memories were a Strength not a Burden and could be used to restore Honor to the place.

Sylvanas was sent to the Maw because she was not capable of being saved by the Venthyr and the Arbiter knew this.

Arthas was sent to the Maw because despite his guilt the Venthyr have limits to how bad Sins can get before automatically sending a Soul to the Maw.

The Accuser was shown as being on the verge of sending Kael’thas to the Maw more than once! If Arthas was presented to her she’d just dump him into the Maw.

Vashj was sent to Maldraxxus because the Arbiter knew she would like it.

The Arbiter sends Souls to the best place for them.

Unfortunately the Anima Drought made Bastion’s flaw more apparent: The Kyrians not only remove Memories but destroy them completely rather than use their power.

Uther’s Memories which were a Burden to himself could have been useful to the Kyrian yet the Archon wanted all Memories destroyed!

The Souls in the Maw committed countless crimes(I.E. cannot be saved) and upon arrival are tested by the Jailer.

Those that fail the tests(are too guilt-ridden or soft) are dumped into the Planes of Torment to be tortured while those who pass the tests(useful megalomaniacs, schemers, torturers and omnicidal maniacs) are taken to Torghast to be primed into Mawsworn.

The Death Realms of the Shadowlands are meant to be the ideal place for each Soul and that includes the Maw. Unspeakably Evil Souls with no Guilt would gladly become Mawsworn and Irredeemable Souls with tons of Guilt would accept the Torment they get due to the sheer Guilt of their Crimes.

No there’s actually a story where his son plunges Ashbringer into his own chest and frees his father, then Kel Thuzad replaces him with Rivendare.

Yep. Exactly as you said.

I am “sure” being sent to the Maw had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with…

…The Wrathgate incident, the murdering of any and all living humans in Lordaeron with poisonous Pumpkins, conspiring with a Dreadlord, experimenting with Bleeding Hollow Orc Blood to create a Plague, experimenting on live humans in the Undercity; or you know killing any and all Forsaken that disagreed with her like Kegan Darkmar and his fellows.

No, no, it was all because Undead Krampus, erm I mean (post redesign) Quan-Chi tricked her!

Right? …RIGHT!?

Accountability. Long overdue for Sylvanas.

Considering the Jailer eventually turns any useful Souls into Mawsworn while throwing useless Souls to the torturers at the Maw’s Plane of Torment one would assume the Arbiter could have easily have simply sent Sylvanas to the Maw because she thought she’d be happy as a Mawsworn…

Sylvanas leaving then returning after feeding the Maw countless Souls earned her the position of Mawsworn General without having to go through the elaborate Torture testing and priming!

Sylvanas was given the role she wanted and(thanks to the Valkyr of the Lich King) managed to bypass the grueling and brutal tests needed to get it by proving her worth another way!
