Alert sounds in BGs

For a long time now, the alert sounds (when grabbing a flag, capturing a node, etc.) have been reversed; the Horde sounds are played for Alliance and vice versa. Many players might not even notice, since it has been so long, but I did a lot of PvP in early WoW (Vanilla, BC, WotLK, and so on) and even today when I hear it, it sounds wrong.

Was there ever any explanation of why these sounds were reversed? I’ve also read that they play normally in rated, but I haven’t done rated in a very long time, so I have no idea. Any information anyone has would be very appreciated. Thank you.

I honestly don’t remember when it wasn’t reversed. Short alliance fanfare is chiselled in my brain as an alert that horde captured a node. Maybe that’s why rated always feels weird to me.

I’ll have to pay attention. XD
I do like sound alerts, but I hit (M) so much I think I depend on that more, along with Capping.

Besides a direct indication of how little they care about pvp, none. I too remember the original sounds. Not sure about rated.
