I have finally had it with alchemy as it is currently in the game. I have been an alchemist since Vanilla. The current experimentation process is really frustrating. It was annoying in DF, but is just terrible now. I have not had a single success and it is gatekeeping me from making basic items. Please change this as soon as possible and, never, ever do this again.
…and thanks for making the key tool for transmutation (Philosopher’s stone) gated behind a rare recipe. Not fun at all.
When you failed Wild Experimentation did you not learn Meticulous Experimentation?
While it is slower and uses more mats per attempt, each use is guaranteed to teach you one unknown recipe using the flower experimented with until you know all of them.
Also, any expansion version of the Philosophers Stone will allow you to perform TWW transmutation.
You don’t have to have the philosophers stone. You can have any of the alchemist stones from any expansion. I see a “siren’s alchemist stone” from BfA that’s like 500g on the AH in my region. That will count as a philosophers stone.
ANY Philo stone from any expac, including Vanilla can be used for transmutation of any alchemy recipe. The only benefit to the current expac stones is that they are trinkets of appropriate ilevel and stat budget to the current expac.
As far as discoveries. Honestly I just stopped using wild experimentation once it unlocked meticulous. I just use the guaranteed one daily for unlocks.
Wild experimentation always has a chance for discovery but not a guarantee. Meticulous is garunteed to give an unlearned recipe. That’s the trade off. One is spammable but not 100%. The other is 100% but on a daily CD.
As another Vanilla Vet, you should know that this is infinitely better than the previous iterations of recipe discovery mechanics for Alchemy from Vanilla forward to DF.
I believe this makes professions more interactive, I like Alchemy the most among them for that same reason.
Put 30 kp into Alchemical Mastery, learn to make Formulated Courage and experiment to your heart’s content.
And you can use the Philosopher’s Stone from old content like Vanilla and WoD.
