Alchemy and Inscription

Are Alchemy and Inscription still worth it/good professions to take? I restarted fresh on a new shaman (28) and a mage (18) I’d like to do alchemy/inscription on respectively.

Each have their issues, but the benefits of Alchemy specifically are hard to ignore, even if you’re simply looking for the longer phial times and on-use effects for air/frost potions. Inscription is also pretty neat, allows for even more personalized supply (eg. missives, runes, contracts, etc.), and has subtle angles through which you can actually supply your Alchemy (eg. eating darkmoon for awakened mats, performing dragonriding glyph orders for awakened order kickbacks, etc.)

That said, outside of rare moments of random demand, I wouldn’t look at either as a source of easy goldmaking. I wouldn’t try to closely understand how the quality economies work or why certain recipes are cycled in and out of relevance each season. You’ll just drive yourself nuts. Also, depending on your realm, I wouldn’t hold your breath for regular, worthwhile Alchemy work orders. You’re either waiting forever for an order with mats and a tip supplied by the buyer, or you’re finding a bunch of cauldrons of decay with decent tips that you need to run the entirety of Brackenhide to fulfill. It’s unadulterated madness…

But yeah, anyway, by comparison to the potential alternatives, they’re good, if not great. I run Alch/Inscr on my main.

Thank you for the insight. On my server (Auchindoun,) glyphs seem to sell well, even the lower-end ones. Haven’t tried selling potions/elixirs yet, but I will soon
