AKIRA TORIYAMA has died

I just found out, apparently he passed on March 1st. I dont know how i feel right now.

My first introduction to DBZ was from my friend in 6th grade, Will. He was a mixed kid, his dad was african american and his mom Japanese. He had these beautiful DBZ cards and one day he invited me and a friend over to watch a DBZ movie. It was the andriod one if I remember correctly.

I remember the scene where the glacier split open with light and Vegeta appeared, from then on I was a fan and started watching the show from the radditz saga.

My son, who is 9 years old, now watches Dragonball and i never talked to him about it, never watched a movie or show with him. I came home one day and he was watching dragonball-z super, super hero. I never seen that one and we sat down and watched it together. (ORANGE PICCOLO IS FREAKING LIT!)

Piccolo and vegeta were always my favorite. Kakarot was the hero we all needed of course and also Gohan grew on me, but i was not a fan of his character arc, but it made sense i guess. I feel his battle with cell took a part of him that he was never able to get back.

Its like real life fighters in the UFC for example. Alot of fighters have that one battle that takes them to the edge of darkness and they are never the same. Dan Hooker vs Dustin Porier or Tony Furgason vs Justin Gaethje. Those battles changed Dan and Tony forever.

anyway, just wanted to share that i guess, feeling weird right now.

Any other dbz fans? When did you first learn about the show? Who was your favorite?

Is this some obscure FF14 thing?

I know this topic isn’t really relevant to WoW or SoD but for real Toriyama was a homie and I will always miss his artstyle. DBZ was my childhood and the Dragon Quest games always had the best characters and art. Will be sorely missed.

Honestly I pity a lot of the people here.

Imagine hearing that someone who influenced millions of people to the point where references to DBZ are a part of many things(including some references in wow) and your reaction is to talk about the undead or mock people for bringing up someone who had a big influence on their childhood.

Like who hurt you in your life to make you this way? Its sad.

Since I didn’t see a single post about going with it I’d say Gohan and Piccolo. Till they made Gohan weak as the Saya man XD.

I just liked how they built the story between the two. So much potential, took till now to finally see Gohan be good again with Gohan Beast. Piccolo got some love too with his form.

Also RIP.

RIP Toriyama. He had as much influence on my childhood as this game did.

Culturally it is a big deal as the Japanese have a history of being pretty xenophobic in general are somewhat prejudiced against non-Japanese due to decades of isolation effecting that view point. Though it is much less of a thing in modern day, it would still have been a thing during Toriyama’s youth.

in modern day they are very polite facing in regard to non-Japanese though. However I can imagine that the family of Toriyama was not happy about this marriage due to racial reasons.

So culturally significant on some level, but in a macro sense not really.

Way to prove the theory that alliance players are the scum of the earth.
