Airborne Aggro in Zereth Mortis

Anyone else tired of getting aggro EVERY time you take off on your mount in Zereth Mortis?

I’ve smoked so many of those airborne chickens. It’s a real time waster. I get it blizz… you really want to fly here??? We’re going to smack you down every time you go up! Please… please… PLEASE; give it a rest!

The game has enough fun without the CONSTANT aerial aggro.

I think it makes sense and while I may roll my eyes at all of those birds… to me, it’s just like aggroing stuff on the ground. Flying through Kun Lai the other day on an alt, I was reminded that this isn’t a new feature, either.

Just be glad the Fel Reaver couldn’t fly during BC :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

You know, fair enough. But… I just want to get from point A to point B. Why make THIS a challenge? Please don’t get started with this “realistic” BS. It’s a game. And having to fly through this constant gauntlet of chicken wings (and such) is just annoying. There are plenty of challenges in the game - flying from one place to another should not be one of them.

Not nearly as bad as the stupid Haralds that dismount you in midair, yes lessened fall damage, but who cares when I fall into 3 mobs, with a 4th coming down as well? Wasn’t daze bad enough!?

So far my rate of aggroing the birds while in the air is low and actually below that of when I was still grounded. I had a good deal more trouble out of the void worm things in Uldum (but those still weren’t really a problem).

Probably has to do with the way one flies, the paths they tend to take, etc.

Still haven’t unlocked flying there yet and probably never will since I don’t like the zone, that being said though I do believe the ENTIRE way aggro works with mobs in the open world needs revised. We’re still using the same archaic system from 2004, I think they need to look at how FFXIV does their mob type aggro and build off of that.

To explain what I mean, not all mobs have the same aggro detection in ffxiv. Some have sight, sound, smell (odd but yes), and then what I can only describe as WoW’s “Aura” detection. I think…nay I know this system would benefit the game, and overall cause less annoyance for new players and old as well. (plus it allows you to traverse something when you don’t want to deal with getting yoinked by 30 different mobs when you need to walk 20 meters away.

ROFL!!! Indeed. That sound still haunts me. (Makes a killer phone ring)

I like the fact that there’s challenges in flying, but they went way overboard as usual. Have less birds and mites, but make them more of a threat. Right now they’re like mosquitos. Just swarms of annoying pests.

Those overdignified sky rats drive me insane. I could prepare and finish a full high tea service in the time it takes them to un-aggro.

The war on flying is still circling the drain.

They over-did it with the birds. They suck.

I tend to agree with you OP. It may have been done before on occasion but recent expansions have taken it a step too far. Mechagon is the one that sticks in my mind: a relatively small zone full of flying machine guns that would target you from seemingly a mile away.

Ion has wanted to remove flight for a long time and his reasons are ridiculous ones. If you make the game fun and immersive on the ground, then people will play it on the ground at those times. For the rest, we just want to get from A to B and putting nuisance mobs in the way does nothing to make the game more fun. Its just makes it annoying.

With laser eyes that could shoot people for miles. That will probably be the next thing though.

hugs Dreadmoon, wiggles toes and scampers off

Time played metrics. Flying to different zones via Oribos, Shadowlands world quests being multi-step and taking forever and fighting 1 or 2 birds every time you loot a chest in ZM seem insignificant on their own but add it all together and your play time is increased by a lot just by annoying design choices.

There’s that one cypher bound treasure chest near the eastern flight path, that each time I loot it, I get a guaranteed train of bird and insect aggro

it’s pretty obnoxious.

I also pretty sure - but can’t prove - that the bird’s aggro radius increased the day we were able to unlock flying.

What’s even crazier, it seems like it takes longer for the aggro to drop.

You have to press Z or R twice to do a Barrel Roll.
