Does spell check count as AI?
If so, I’m nothing but a fraud.

This drives at the heart of RP being collaborative improv. No thanks.
I don’t want AI to do art for me. I want AI to solve bigger problems for me. Apply it to medicine, engineering, space exploration, things like that.
Yeah but we all know that AI sex robots are coming first
They’ll be programmed to
An AI robot only just now learned how to make coffee by watching videos, it took numerous times for it to get the task done correctly, so I wouldn’t trust a robot with sensitive fleshy parts for a long time.
I’m so confused right now. Again, how are we supposed to know if the person we’re RPg with is not an AI RP bot?
Oh wow… I’m having flashbacks to that one movie, I think it was “Maximum Overdrive”.
That is what is going to make them so hard to pick, they also won’t know what they’re supposed to be doing.
I wouldn’t worry about it - I doubt this is really an issue. Maybe something that happened once and is getting blown up because it is understandably absurd.
Someone would need to pay for an AI program and a WoW subscription all for the purpose of tricking someone else into RPing and not actually playing with them.
That would be…a lot of effort for a very puzzling return.
Lot of effort, yes. Though just as a clarifying point, there are plenty of free AI tools now.
I think about Westworld a lot when it comes to the character stuff. You can program an AI to follow scripts, take ideas from established works, give it a general direction for purpose, and get something pretty good in return. But Dolores is never going to have full autonomy or make her own decisions, and that’s why AI is always going to be a disappointment at one point or another.
One of my friends who’s really ANTI AI has been using this to create RP posts for a while. I prefer to organically RP my character, but I will not deny sometimes I use GPT to see alternate scenarios - Like describe my character and ask it to describe him in a more lovecraftian sort of… way?
I want an AI waifu that will bring me grilled cheese and tell me my biceps are huge
i saw an edgy paladin guy named something like criss blood angel outside the cathedral (of course) with NEW ART in his currently and they had bad AI art and after looking at it, you realized he was stabbing himself in the nards with his own weapon and i laughed a lot.
anyway, i expect AI RP to probably be funny because you’ll probably end up having some dumb interactions that are the writing equivalent of stabbing yoursaelf in the nuts
A thing that a lot of devs and designers have said:
Gamers have been trained to optimize the fun out of the game by people who have sought to stretch out the experience of the game for the sake of squeezing more money out of the Gamer.
With shorter personal time, more hours spent at work, less privacy with employers demanding 24/7 access and commitment from their employees, Gamers have stopped enjoying games as an escape and more and more attempt to streamline them in defiance of the same business strategies that seek to consume larger and larger amounts of the gamers time, attention and money.
If this was in the business world, we’d be praising them for innovation, but because player optimization cuts into the profits of the gaming companies, we demonize them for it instead.
I see this as the inevitable and stupid result of people trying to cram in as much ‘fun’ as they can in what little free time they have left because we must always be accessible to everybody, everywhere, all at once.
Finally. A man of culture and sophistication.
Of all the scenarios one could imagine displaying in a dystopian future (or I guess in this case our at times dystopian seeming present), using AI to optimize a hobby within a hobby in defiance of the overbearing demands of life/corporate greed certainly wasn’t on my personal list; though, thinking about it now, maybe it should have been.
With ChatGPT getting multi GPT capabilities, other RPer’s will no longer be needed!
broke: Logging onto WoW and RPing with other people
woke: Logging onto WoW and using AI to RP with other people who may also be using AI
bespoke: Not logging onto WoW and just watching AIs RP with each other
I think it was less using AI to RP as a protest and more that people who’ve played video games for long enough will have been trained, both consciously and subconsciously, to optimize everything they do once they’re in a game, because for the past twenty years, almost every game that’s come out of the AAA industry has been built around the core design idea that you have to stretch it out, and make it difficult, and force the player to play your game longer, to ensure they can’t go and play somebody else’s game instead.
Its effectively a Cold War between AAA Devs trying to make you focus on their work and not their competitors, and Players who want to play a video game and not a second job.
This reminds me of seeing ads for writing other people’s TRP profiles. I believe for real money. Naturally bringing AI into this instantly asks moral questions, none of which people have concrete answers to. To me it seems less of a “technology has done too far!” and a bit closer to someone who doesn’t feel they have the time or ability to write to the level they would like and asking for help. Granted I don’t know anyone personally who does this so I’m just speculating!
