There’s no way people are actually paying 10k-30k for a green armor/weapon on the AH for transmog, let alone to DE.
Are people using the AH to transfer gold between factions? Gold selling?

I recently saw this the last time I leveled about a month ago. I just laughed and moved on.
No matter what it is, it’s asinine and ridiculous.
Level 80 greens aren’t common drops. People do dumb stuff.
I mail all my BoEs to my alt to DE. I’m frequently getting greens while doing anything out in the world, especially on the new island.
Turns out selling 70-79 greens is a racket due to said gear being relatively uncommon, and TWW leveling content being difficult, or at least time consuming, to do without a full suite of DF gear.
Even at 80 greens are pretty rare and usually instantly replaced with blues/purps, but the leveling gear is where the real money is.
Can’t speak without knowing the green in question…
Some ARE extremely rare and can go for a ton. Just for example there are some that can only be gotten as naxx rewards or from very specific world rares.
If they are current expansion greens… ive no idea I rarely see them go for more then 80-200g usually twice their vendor value.
It’s current expansion gear, go check it out. There’s some nutjobs trying to list a green weapon for 150k gold.
It is a bit daunting to try to equip your first character that reaches level 80. The instinct to go shopping for lvl80 gear to replace all those lower level pieces is hard to resist…which is why the ‘AH bots’ take advantage and charge so much.
Once that first character gets to Siren Isle however, gearing alts is SO much easier. After a few days there, you’ll not only have collected most (if not all) of the Veteran-level gear they will need at level 80, you’ll probably also have all of the citrines they’ll need for their ring.
So essentially, you’ll be able to resist the urge to buy those ridiculously priced greens after gearing up your first toon.
Level 70 greens are still good money
The ilvl gap between leveling in older xpacs and what TWW gives is pretty big
You can basically get to 70 with 200 ilvl or lower and then get absolutely dumpstered by mobs
Doesn’t mean it’s going to sell, you didn’t buy it.
And for that amount, you could buy enough mats for 10 crafted blues.
On my server the 80 greens are selling for junk prices on the AH. I either have my enchanter DE them or vendor trash, or save in my alt bank for new toons, or to sell at beginning of Midnight when they might have more value. During DF lvl 226 gear was selling like crazy because no one was doing that SL content.
greens for levels 71-79 sell just fine at those prices. i sell any greens i get while leveling, and 3-8k is not uncommon at all. why would i sell them for less just because the text is green?
It’s crazy that someone would spend that much gold on something they’ll be using for maybe an hour.
Is the bug still on the AH where it shows you can equip these greens at a lower level? I bought a few expensive green items for my level 73 skinner because the AH tooltip said I could equip them. I wanted to twink him out so he could kill things faster. You can’t equip these until 80 though so it was a scam.
i mean, i agree, but i’m not going to tell them how to spend their gold!
80 greens are still pretty cheap and can be afforded for de on both servers I play on, one high one low pop.
It’s the leveling gear they try to gouge. Level 71 is priced unreasonably. I can usually get a new alt crafted 71 gear, but not every slot. Needless to say, I just skip the outliers at crazy price.
It would not be fun if you just started, rushed Dragonflight, and didn’t get the 424 dreamsurge or dungeon gear, and start TWW. It’s really nice to know the AH goblins are there to help.
Someone will.
I’ll gladly take their gold.
Nah, people actually buy them. Easy gold for me.
The moment you hit TWW with a new character, things get hard. Especially if you didn’t have good end of dragonflight gear.
The only source of gear for you are uncommon boe drops from people who are not max level. That part is important, because it naturally restricts supply. Or running dungeons, which is daunting if your gear is so bad that you won’t survive(and probably be vote kicked by jerks when you keep dying).
So your only recourse is the AH. Sleezy people know this, and actively buy up leveling gear to relist.
Ultimately, this is blizzards fault for not retaining the ability to craft max level boes as lower level gear that they dumped post shadowlands. This has created a supply restricted market that people can take advantage of.
Knowing that, some people are buying low and reselling high and the rest just look that value up on the AH sell window.
Oh gee a 515 staff is selling for 15k " click" put mine in for the same price.
