LOL no! TSM is slow and clunky but it gets blamed for everything. The sniping feature is awful for quick buys like the OP is asking about. It’s fine for things that don’t sell quickly like if someone puts a transmog up for half its normal value but for things that move fast? Just no.
I use Point Blank Sniper but honestly it’s not a game changer. When the xpac first hit I spent hours using the default UI to buy and flip things. It was slow and clunky esp with the issues the AH had but I still made some gold. PBS wasn’t working well with the issues the AH had at the time so I just used Blizz’s UI.
What everyone thinks TSM does, automatically buys things in a fraction of a second as soon as they are put up on the AH, is actually what bots and people running special scripts do. No sniping addon can compete with that and until Blizz cracks down on this behavior you’re going to see things sell in fractions of seconds. PBS does help buy things a little bit faster but you still have to be there manually clicking. For hours if you want to make any real gold. Its not automatic. And it shouldn’t be.
There’s another addon I heard about but I havent looked into it much and am not sure if it’s against ToS so I don’t want to mention it’s name. PBS is the main one as far as I’m aware.
I mean, the primary reason I kept hitting refresh was because I simply needed so much of it for so many professions. And I mean, can’t be any ore, must be bismuth . . . refresh refresh refresh.
I think there’s limits, because with actions like buying out an item, you have to have a manual click or two in there. That’s required by Blizzard.
Now, you could get something to search for “deals” that might help you identify where to look, but snatching those “bait postings” is nearly impossible, with one exception. That would be the bait poster’s listing of 1 item.
I ran a bit of a test and snagged about 100 stacks of separate things (Ironclaw Ore, Aqirite, Bismuth Bitterling, etc.) and each of those had a stack of 1 posted about half the lowest price every 5 seconds or so.
But anytime a larger stack was put up, it was gone. I think I got maybe 2 or 3 wins of multiple stacks.
Side note, about 60-75% of the items (I did note the sellers, just don’t have it with me right now) were the same seller (but different sellers for different item types).
So, my guess? One person posts bait, other bots look for multiple stacks to snag at inhuman speed. But that’s only a guess.
I believe the current best gold farm is still skinning bees and wolves. It’s dropped dramatically though. I did an hour yesterday and made 65k. My skinning knowledge isnt’ perfectly allocated and I don’t have a ton of deftness so maybe I could be doing better idk. I expect it to drop off and be not worth my time in a week or two as prices fall. Then I plan to do it the hard way…alchemy lol. I just am not a fan of professions ever since Blizz made them all complicated in DF.
When they did that bee special assignment …omg, it felt like never ending corpses to skin and I could have been there for hours just skining if I wanted.
