AH Update and Temporary 20% Fee?

Are there any updates on the Auction House redesign?
At Blizzcon last year, Ion said the 20% AH fee was a temporary fix for 8.0 launch. Any updates on how much longer we have to deal with that, now that it’s been almost a year?

We are still waiting for that shaman rework that was promised for 8.1.

They can say what they want this is just another way to pull gold. Its stupid when you try to list a rare tradeskill item and it pops up a 40g deposit. I suspect this is a permanent change with the nerf being hidden behind “AH trolling”.

It’s one of those changes I really hate. When you’re selling bfa materials then you won’t even notice it. However if you’re on a low pop server and try to sell low level stuff then you really notice it.

Whoah, really?

Didn’t know that “temp” part.

I kind of ignore it, but I do have this old junk that just won’t sell on my server. I’m about to give up since relisting it seems to be insane

As if they are really going to do any serious work on wow at this late stage.

What they say and what they do have always been 2 very different things.

I doubt they will put this kind of change into the game before next expansion’s prepatch at the earliest.

Yes, this please. Really would like to hear more.

I honestly think that Blizzard should look at Wildstar (RIP) and the Commodity Exchange system they used for stack items. If there was one thing that game did right compared to every other MMO it was handling stack items in terms of selling and buying.

The Commodity exchange basically did this basically.

Say you post 200 Peacebloom on the Commodity Exchange. You would set price per Peacebloom, lets say 20s per flower. It would then post your 200 Peacebloom. Buyers would come back, search for Peacebloom, find yours, go to buy it and then be given an option of how much they wanted to buy.

So say that Player A only wanted to buy 20, they would end up paying 4gp and 20 of the 200 you put up would be sold to them and you would get the gold in the mail later.

Player B is 2 Peacebloom short of a crafting recipe he is working on but does not want to go out and farm more. Instead they hit the AH and find your Peacebloom, they buy only 2 of it for 40 silver and head on their way and you get the money for that interaction in the mail later.

You return some time after player B and deposit another 200 Peacebloom for the same price which then gets added to the stack.

Player C is looking to power level their profession and needs to buy in bulk. You have, after Player A and B as well as you adding more there is a total of 378 which Player C who is actively looking to buy in bulk will buy the rest of for 75g 60s and you get the money in the mail later.

Basically, the system works like this. You throw up your goods and the stack size does not matter, players can buy from your stack as many or as few of said item as needed.

I loved this system because it honestly solved an issue that WoW has, stack sizes on the AH.

It is beyond frustrating when I may only need 5-10 of an item but there are only stacks of 100+ on the AH. On the opposite end of that spectrum, its frustrating for buyers who need to buy a lot of an item but there are a million auctions of items in stacks of 1 or 2.

As a seller I am conflicted because I know that things like Flasks or Gems or what have you, people may only need a few of that item and I am penalized for putting up a small number because the “band-aid fix” punishes that mentality and is honestly anti-consumer as well. Because selling like that is so punished, the people who may only need a small amount of an item have a harder time acquiring it in smaller batches. Without the change the people who are looking for bulk buys instead have to go through tons of single item posts.

Commodity Exchange in Wildstar handled the issue of having to deal with that in a very clever way that no other MMO (That I know of) had done. Normal items that couldn’t be stacked were still sold via a traditional AH while Stack-able Items were thrown into the Commodity Exchange.

I think that Blizzard, whenever they update their AH, should consider doing something similar with the Auction House and how stack able items are handled. Its far more seller and buyer friendly. Sellers no longer need to worry about “What size stacks do I need to sell to hit the broadest consumer base?” and buyers no longer have to worry about either buying more than they need/want or buying hundreds of items one at a time.

Seriously, I think its a good idea.

I like this idea.

Being able to only buy a portion of your 200 Peacebloom if needed is great. I don’t want to buy a stack of 200 when I only need 10. Stands to reason I could pay you 5% of your asking price and only take 5% of your stock.

There are definite pros and cons to exchanges. Doesn’t make sense for single items, but works well for reagents. My hope is that they bring in the TradeSkillMaster and Auctioneer devs for a couple weeks to find out what the WoW population needs and wants.

And those worgen and goblin models, expected in wod or legion? Soon.

Sadly, that will never come. Anything that gets said, I never look forward too unless it does happen.

Rift also allows the player to purchase any amount from a stack of items. In addition, the price you set is remembered indefinitely, you can view the average price of that item from what’s currently for sale, and you can view a chart showing how much the item has sold for in the past. Best part, you can leave items on the AH for up to 7 days, and your preference is saved.

Housing? Ability progression (solves Blizz’ pruning problem)?

Wildstar did a ton right. Mismanagement and poor launch were the nail in the coffin.

Unless you have major clout/brand or ‘sunk cost fallacy’ in your favor… a new IP in the mmo space is almost destined to fail.
